Rach - you have some excellent titles in there! I've read all those Philippa Gregory and Jodi Picoults and you won't be disappointed. Jane Austen are also very good and Thomas Hardy is my all time fave classical author so I'm a bit biased there - Tess is sheer beauty to read. Happy reading!

Thanks Angel . Most of my Jodi Picoult's have been on my shelf for a while now so I hope to read a couple at least soon - she's one of my favourite authors.

As for Thomas Hardy I bought Tess... because it was on a uni reading list then my tutor changed her mind and we did The Mayor... instead :motz:but I shall try my hardest to read it seeing as it is so highly recomended :).

I'm not sure though if the Philippa Gregory's will live up to The Other Boleyn Girl but I'll give it a go anyway.

1. The Picture Of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde.

Synopsis from Waterstones:

Enthralled by his own exquisite portrait, Dorian Gray exchanges his soul for eternal youth and beauty. Influenced by his friend Lord Henry Wotton, he is drawn into a corrupt double life; indulging his desires in secret while remaining a gentleman in the eyes of polite society. Only his portrait bears the traces of his decadence.

4. Affinity - Sarah Waters

Synopsis from Waterstones:

Set in and around the women's prison at Milbank in the 1870's , AFFINITY is an eerie and utterly compelling ghost story, a complex and intriguing literary mystery and a poignant love story with an unexpected twist in the tale. Following the death of her father, Margaret Prior has decided to pursue some 'good work' with the lady criminals of one of London's most notorious gaols. Surrounded by prisoners, murderers and common thieves, Margaret feels herself drawn to one of the prisons more unlikely inmates - the imprisoned spiritualist - Selina Dawes. Sympathetic to the plight of this innocent-seeming girl, Margaret sees herself dispensing guidance and perhaps friendship on her visits, little expecting to find herself dabbling in a twilight world of seances, shadows, unruly spirits and unseemly passions.

5. The Love Of My Life - Louise Douglas

Synopsis from Waterstones:

'I miss him with every breath and heartbeat. He should have been my happy ending. Instead, he is the sad beginning to my story.' Olivia and Luca Felicone had known each other nearly all their lives, but when they fell in love as teenagers and eloped to London, they broke the hearts of those closest to them. Luca's parents run Marinella's restaurant, the colourful hub of life in the otherwise bleak north-eastern seaside town of Watersford, and his mother, Angela, has never forgiven Olivia for causing such a rift in her beloved family. On a freezing January night Olivia's life is shattered when she learns that Luca has been killed in a car accident on the M1. She is left with nothing, and after suffering from weeks of overwhelming grief, she abandons her job and returns North to where Luca has been buried in Watersford, just to be close to him - even though she knows she will not be welcome at Marinella's. Olivia's chance meeting with Luca's married twin brother, Marc, leads to the realization that he is experiencing a loss almost as painful as her own. Their desolation draws them into an affair which both know has no future, but fills the space where Luca should be. It is a course of action that can only spiral out of control, and when it does, the consequences are both explosive and cruel. "The Love of My Life" is a beautiful novel that portrays both the innocence of childhood, and the dynamics of love and loss with deftness and sensitivity. It is, above all, a stunning debut from an author with a unique and natural narrative voice.

How would you say goodbye to those you love most in the world? Barbara must say a final farewell to her four daughters. But how can she find the words? And how can she leave them when they each have so much growing up to do? There's commitment-phobic Lisa. Brittle, unhappily married Jennifer. Free-spirited traveller Amanda. And teenage Hannah, stumbling her way towards adulthood. Barbara's answer is to write each daughter a letter, finally expressing the hopes, fears, dreams and secrets she couldn't always voice. 8. Twilight - Stephenie Meyer

Synopsis from Waterstones:

Bella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Bella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Bella, the person Edward holds most dear. Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.

Is twilight your fave of the series?

Absolutely. I think there's too much Jake in the second and fourth book to be honest which puts me off reading them, as sad as it sounds . It's also the one where Bella doesn't infuriate me to the point of wanting to throw the book at a wall ;).

Do you have a favourite in the series?

I have this book now and will probably give it a go soon.. At the risk of giving anything away in the book, can you let me know what you thought about it? I saw you gave it a 6/10 which disappoints me as I was hoping it would be a great read.. Would love to hear your thoughts

It's a lovely read, a bit sad at times and will probably make you shed a few tears. My main reason for giving it a 6 was because I felt that at times the writing was slightly poor and found myself re-writing the sentences in my head to try and make them fit better into the story - if that makes sense. To be honest, I thought it would be a lot better than it was, although you may love it. I'd love to hear your opinion once you've read it yourself ;).

9. The Shape Of Snakes - Minette Walters

Synopsis from Waterstones:

It is November 1978, and Britain is on strike. The dead lie unburied, rubbish piles in the streets - and somewhere is West London a black woman dies in a rain-soaked gutter. Her passing would have gone unmourned but for the young woman who finds her and who believes - apparently against reason - that Annie was murdered. But whatever the truth about Annie - whether she was as mad as her neighbours claimed, whether she lived in squalor as the police said - something passed between her and Mrs Ranelagh in the moment of death which binds this one woman to her cause for the next twenty years. But why is Mrs Ranelagh so convinced it was murder when by her own account Annie died without speaking? And why would any woman spend twenty painstaking years uncovering the truth - unless her reasons are personal ...?

Ahh, I don't mind him too much, I hated New Moon the first time I read it, but after I finished the series and then read back through, I could kind of understand him a bit more, although I hate that he forces Bella to kiss him and I hate that he imprints on Nessie (and I hate that name too, eww) :giggle:

10. New Moon - Stephenie Meyer

Synopsis from Waterstones:

I stuck my finger under the edge of the paper and jerked it under the tape. Shoot,' I muttered when the paper sliced my finger. A single drop of blood oozed from the tiny cut. It all happened very quickly then. No!' Edward roared Dazed and disorientated, I looked up from the bright red blood pulsing out of my arm - and into the fevered eyes of the six suddenly ravenous vampires. For Bella Swan, there is one thing more important than life itself: Edward Cullen. But being in love with a vampire is more dangerous than Bella ever could have imagined. Edward has already rescued Bella from the clutches of an evil vampire but now, as their daring relationship threatens all that is near and dear to them, they realise their troubles may just be beginning.
