Andaira Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Miss Marple and Poirot all the way! I love Agatha Christe's books the crimes are so detailed and the detectives are really clever. Great choice, Cadenza! What's your favorite Poirot book? Quote
Cadenza Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Mmm hard one! Probably The ABC Murders. I take it you're a fan too? What's your favourite? Quote
Andaira Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I definitely am. I haven't read many of Agatha's books yet, but all the ones I have are those that feature Poirot, and my favorite (thus far), would have to be Murder on the Orient Express. That might change once I read more of the books though. Quote
chrysalis_stage Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 (edited) Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles from Tess Gerritsen are my favourite, but have to say Mick StJohn from Moonlight is the best vampire detective. (I have yet to read my Sherlock Holmes book, which was my grandpa's) Edited February 8, 2009 by chrysalis_stage Punctuation Quote
Epo Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 It's probably blindingly obvious who I am a big fan of from my username, but I will state it for the record anyway. I heart John Rebus. Quote

dakingavenue Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 my favourite crime fighter is d.c.i alan banks the detective in peter robinsons books. peter robinsons books are set in the yorkshire dales, moors, area of england and all eighteen books contain alan banks. hes a working class man who enjoys classical and rock music in equal measure,he also reads, enjoys theatre, and going to opera.but at heart hes a normal bloke who enjoys a pint of ale and a pub lunch with hes mates Quote
Chrissy Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 What I love about DCI Banks is that he is a person, not a caricature. He has been so well 'drawn' by Peter Robinson, you get a real person, with all the layers, strangths and frailties that a real person carries. Quote
Wilde Lily Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 My favorites are Sherlock Holmes, Inspector Morse, Hercule Poirot and Inspector Maigret. Quote
Seiichi Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 I'm not sure he really counts because he's more of a special agent and is promoted beyond being a simple clerk at the police force, but my favorite detective would have to be Erast Fandorin from Boris Akunin's Fandorin series. Quote
Wilde Lily Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 My favorites are Sherlock Holmes, Inspector Morse, Hercule Poirot and Inspector Maigret. How could I forget Nancy Drew?! Quote
Mac Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 I love Myron Bolitar, that wonderful character created by Harlan Coben. I also love Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels. I grew up with Sherlock Holmes and Inspector Morse. I have to say, however, that 'Kalle' Blomkvist in Stieg Larsson's Millennium novels is now one of my very firm favourites. Has anyone read these books yet? They are magnificent. Quote
LinRobinson Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I'm kind of partial to Rorschach at the moment. (I assume that says something about my pysche...but then that's what Rorshach is all about, huh?) Quote
zaraworld Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I lurrves Robert Langdon from da vinci code (currently reading) and Angels and Demons (which I have yet to read), I guess I havn't really read many thrillers that involve dective style stuffies, but the shorter sherlock holmes stories are really good. Suzanna Addison Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Inspectors Morse and Lewis. Inspector Lynley Inspector Frost Sherlock Holmes Hercule Poirot In no particular order and for varying reasons. Morse is a bit pig-headed at times get an idea and sticks to it even if the evidence suggests otherwise and can be nasty to Lewis (which makes me want to hurt Morse!) But he does get the job done and will see sense at the right moment. Lewis is intelligent thinks a little bit more and though softened by Oxford life he still is proud of his Nothern roots a lets them show. He isn't so nasty to his sidekick and solves the case by elimination rather than by immediate conviction on one person - and he doesn't fall in love in practically every episode either! Lynley is gorgeous and clever - and is not afraid of being told off by his female sidekick Sharon Small's Sergeant Havers! There is definite attraction between the two of them but they are professional and show true compassion to ALL concerned! Frost - David Jason ... need I say more! Holmes and Poirot are good and clever though not actual detectives and I love Holmes attempts at early Forensics and Poirot's quiet observations. My favourites anyway but I hope to get more in the list soon. Quote
Christie Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 In adult wise I love Robert Langdon he is the perfect detective but when I was younger I loved the Hardy Boys, The Five Find Outers and now that I have just finished my English Lit exam !!!! I must say that Inspector Goole is an Inspector that stands out for me! Quote
SweetiiPie85 Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 My favorite from a novel would be Lindsay Boxer from the murder club series by James Patterson. From T.V it would have to be either Mr Barnaby (Midsomer Murders), Mark Sloan (Diagnosis Murder), Jessica Fletcher (Murder she Wrote). I love the old ones they are still great to watch. My favorite detective when I was a little girl was Nancy Drew. Quote
Suzanna Addison Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 I love Mark Sloan too and Gibbs from NCIS! Though NCIS is more reliant on teamwork - everyone helps solve the mystery rather than just one person. Quote
axiom Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Try out any of his titles based around Detective Dave Robicheaux. Excellent read. Quote
Nicola Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I love the Lincoln Rhyme series by Jeffrey Deaver. So yeah.....Lincoln Rhyme! He's super intelligent and was played by Denzel Washington in The Bone Collector movie which increases his appeal!! Quote
polemole Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 I enjoyed the Jasper fforde Jack Spratt - Nursery crimes Division books so much I have just started the Thursday Next series and so far so good. I like books that are a bit weird. Quote
