Never heard of him. The Nobel Prize for literature seems a bit dodgy to me, almost as dodgy as the peace prize. Bob Dylan won it once, and sure he's written a lot of good songs, but did he deserve the preeminent prize for literature? Winston Churchill won the literature prize once. I am a big fan of Churchill and I suspect his history books were pretty good. I expect there were better history books published in his time, and really he is known for his other achievements. 1 Quote
Madeleine Posted October 14 Posted October 14 I've not heard of the winner either. I remember there was a lot of controversy when Bob Dylan won the Lit Prize, apparently it was for his poetry. 1 Quote

Prize giving in general is dodgy, in my opinion which was formed at school when I pointed out that it was always the same kids who won a prize at the end of the year because they were more intelligent than the rest of us. The teacher told me I was wrong and it was a reward for hard work but couldn’t give me an answer when I asked her to prove that the female prize winner had worked harder than me. Hux is right though, you could see that one coming. More on him here : László Krasznahorkai Quote
Hux Posted October 14 Posted October 14 (edited) As someone who tries to keep up with Nobel Prize winners in literature, and occasionally reads them (some are truly sublime, others are shockingly prosaic), when Abdulrazak Gurnah won, I did need to Google him. Edited October 14 by Hux Quote
lunababymoonchild Posted October 14 Author Posted October 14 I don’t keep up with the prize and inevitably haven’t heard of the recipient. Not only have I heard of Krasznahorkai, I’ve read him and so was moved to post. Quote
