Wiktoria Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Hello everyone! Can you pick your top 3 best books you've read this year? I recently read a great book called ‘The Things We Leave Unfinished’ written by Rebecca Yarros. What this book did to me. It was amazing, beautiful, stunning and the letters did their job:) Could you recommend me something similar? I would appreciate any recommendations;)As for me, this book wins out of all the ones I have read this year. I give second place to , ‘Seven Husbands by Evelyn Hugo’ and third place to , ‘Malibu Rising’ by Taylor Reid Jenkins. Two books written by one of my favourite authors. I'm very curious to know what you guys have read (crime fiction, romance, biographies, etc.) and what your ranking is. Maybe you can inspire me to reach for more books. Thanks for your replies! 1 Quote
friendofbooks Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Wow, is it already time to wrap up the year? I think the highlights were the books: Flowers for Algernon, The Master and Margarita, and I also think Life for Rent. I read that book a long time ago, but I can't help but reread it every year. 1 Quote

Thanks for your reply:) Great that you read this every year, you've encouraged me to read it. You're right that it's a bit early to wrap up the year. We can still read a lot of books in December;) Quote
lunababymoonchild Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Hello @Wiktoria and @friendofbooks, welcome to the board. I find these 'name your favourite books' incredibly difficult because I never finish a book that I don't enjoy, that and the fact that my favourite can change at a moment's notice. With that in mind, here is my top three for (the mnoment) this year : Sara Sherdian, The Secrets of Blythswood Square C S Robertson, The Trials of Marjory Crowe Cormac McCarthy, Child of God 3 Quote

I really liked how the author creates an atmosphere of mystery and intrigue. The plot flows easily and logically, and you feel drawn into the story right from the first pages. 2 Quote

We have too many good books; for the bad books you either don't finish reading or get tired of them by the end. 1 Quote

I wish I had more time to read. When I walk into a book shop or see some great discount I often end up with a new book to read. In this way, I currently have a lot of books on my shelf, and I'm adding new titles to my to-read list. 1 Quote

poppy Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 I've been reading mostly vintage books by women authors this year. Reading for enjoyment rather than anything challenging. My top three have been:- Father by Elizabeth von Arnim Mrs Miniver by Jan Struther Pomfret Towers by Angela Thirkell 1 Quote
Brian. Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 It's always quite tough to choose a top 3 but I've only rated 3 books 5/5 so it makes it a bit easier for me. In the Cannon's Mouth by PJ Campbell Mortimer & Whitehouse Gone Fishing by Bob Mortimer & Paul Whitehouse Mayflies by Andrew O'Hagan 1 Quote
Madeleine Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 None have been really outstanding I'm afraid. Quote

~Andrea~ Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 There was only one Outstanding one really, and that was Fingersmith by Sarah Waters. It really was great - both utterly gripping and superbly written. Quote
Madeleine Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 I enjoyed Fingersmith when I read it several years ago, the TV version was good as well. 1 Quote
