Basically any icecream recipe should work. There are a couple of basic methods - one involves making a custard, others just combining cream and flavours. You just need to put the mixture into a tub with a tight fitting lid and put in the freezer, then every 2 hours you need to stir it to prevent the formation of icecrystals. I tend to use an icecream maker (the type where you freeze the bowl) but most recipes state that you can use the other method. Try checking out the BBC Goodfood online site and I'm sure Delia Smith has many recpies on her site

This recipe needs no further mixing after the initial beating.

Simple Home Made Icecream

Beat 4 egg whites until stiff

Beat 4 egg yolks. Add 6 tlbs sugar and flavouring of your choice and beat again until thick and creamy

Beat 300ml (1/2 pint) cream until thick

Fold three mixtures together and freeze in a container with a lid on. Ready in approx 4 hours.

(this is really nice, I used to make it heaps)

Okay, pardonnez-moi, but why would you want to make your own ice cream? Why not just get a tub of HD or B&J at the store like everyone else?
