Which Book's Cover Am I Trying To Recollect???!

Recommended Posts

Hi booky people!

I am trying to track down a novel but I only really recall the front cover. Was sold in, I spotted it in Sainsbuy's if that rings a bell with anyone. I've copied and pasted the following from Facebook which is why it is different. Oh y'all!! I am TRY.ING!!

What I can tell you is I very much enjoyed looking at the front cover whenever I went into Sains. when this book was on sale there!! It was very pretty! The books are practically in the entrance of the store as well so I would always see it!! It made me happy to look at it!!!
But yeah the front cover - At the seaside! Up high I think, there was possibly a house in the background, a lady was walking, lots of beautiful colours and some birds in the sky iirc, some other wildlife too maybe! Hand drawn, quite busy and full! It had a very glowing review on the front!! One sentence you know! If memory serves blurb said it was about a young lady who inherited money from her Grandma and went to live in her dead Grandma's property and then she met a man... Something like that! 😬
I'm not all that big on reading so I just left it behind. I could've bought it! Sure! Everyone enjoys looking at looooovely things right?! But a book exists for more than just looking at the picturesque front cover right! Now I've decided I would like to give it a read‼️‼️
I have got in touch with Sains, on Messenger, but they have not been able to send me a list of their novels or any books sold in 2022 or 2023 much to my disappointment. This was after I scoured and scoured Google two nights in a row and more since (so so many similar authors out there - pretty covers and generalised titles), and I've been into Waterstones in town and Smiths also and in a few other towns too! I always end up parting with cash so can't go into any more stores now.
The lady at Waterstones in my town told me "To be in Sains it must've been a popular novel!" 2022 I think yes, September sort of time or maybe 2023 yeah! I know it's a long shot but figured I might as well try this forum as well as all the other things I've tried!
I know for sure it's not The UnHoneymooners or Where The Crawdads Sing! I say September 2022 because I'd just seen the film (Crawdads) at that time. The cover had wildlife, birds on it, lots of yellow I wanna say. This struck a chord with me as the main character in Crawdads was an illustrator of wildlife factual books! I just thought 'The nature - reminiscent of her in Crawdads!'
So yeah. That's me - Lydia :) I have done extensive research as I say but hopefully someone here can help me?!!!🤞🤞🥳🥳

I tried asking my sister, who reads a lot more romance than me, but she wasn’t sure either! I would say that being in Sainsbury’s doesn’t necessarily mean it was popular - so bestseller lists might not be the place to look. Supermarkets usually have big name/celebrity authors (so still always pretty popular, just maybe not bestseller popular!).

I hope someone else can help more!

OK. Thank you Hayley! I'm vague and unhelpful I know. Though I am giving aaaaaallllll the help I possibly can!!! Trust me!!! It's doing my head in now and I just want to find out.

There is one fairly strong possibility, though it's not the same as I recall it being. The cover's nice but I wouldn't really say it's beautiful. You sometimes amp things up in your mind don't you...

Oh. 😭😭😰😰 Will I ever be able to find out for sure. 👎🏻😭😰🤞🏻

Is it possible that it’s the same book but you’re looking at a different edition? Maybe the original hardback had a different cover?

I don't know Hayley! I'm 99% sure the og one I saw was paperback!

I've looked to see if, Google, there are any other covers. On Google seemed like no.

I have got in contact with the publisher looool!!! The "Darling Cove" by Holly Hepburn it is, came out at the right time and seems to fulfil all the criteria I can remember. Save the blurb I think, iirc. Anyhow I read that one time.

It's doing my head in now.

So, let me float this one past you - in my town's group on FB I've asked the readers if they reckon they bought it. The copies musta gone somewhere right? And no one's said yes. I mean I haven't been overly helpful 'tis true. But I thought on there for sure they'd have bought it. Someone(s?)!! There were like three copies so it's possible the buyers aren't in the FB group.... Siiiiiiigh. WHY have I been cursed to not enjoy reading very much so I left this very appealing book behind because what struck me the most was the front cover. WHHHHYYY????

P.S. I have got a bit more into reading over the last ten years or so with my Dad's help! Upon my request or musing or whatever - I said "I'd like to read the Rizzoli and Isles series" and he said "You could borrow those from me!" So yeah!!  I've been enjoying those, after the TV series but hey!!

That was a good idea!

Maybe a long shot, you’ve probably seen all of these, but goodreads says there were three books in this series published in 2022. Could it have been a bit later than you thought, in November? That cover is more yellow than the others…

Yes! That's the greatest lead I have! The Setting Sail one! The covers not quite the same as I recall it being. I can't find a synopsis for it for the life of me. Sains have confirmed to me at least that they sold that one... So seems quite likely it's that one.

I've asked the publishers if it's ever had another cover and if they could give me an actual synopsis for book no. 4... "Good luck with that" I feel like. I'll hafta see. I'm not very good at being patient.

They've all been published in one book now, I think the first cover in your post, and the title,  is the one they've used, I have it myself and also saw it in my local Sainsbury's.

OK!! Please tell me more Madeline?!!

Yes. It is Hayley. I'm kinda over it now. Kinda. I mean I don't have anymore avenues I can go down now. I've left a message on the author's Instagram page; Under a photo of the fourth Darling Cove book.

I meantion Crawdads? So I saw the film in September '22. I don't think it would've stuck with me long enough to be reminiscent to me in January the following year - that's when the paperback version was released.

Not much more to say, there's a website called Fantastic Fiction where you can look up all of an author's books.  But the book I have is called Escape to Darling Cove, with the same cover as "Hidden Depths", all 4 mini novels have now been put together in the one book.

I think I've used Fantastic Fiction in my search previously.

I asked in a local Tesco store I was in today and the guy said that THEIR records, instore do not go back far enough to be able to help me. One hundred days their records go back I think he said. Bit weird. You'd have thought it'd at least be a year yanno right? Three hundred days? Anyhoo, at HQ they might keep their records for longer but he wasn't sure.

Oh yes!! I have got in touch with Sains themselves. On Messenger, and I asked in my local store just yesterday. The lady seemed a bit dim-witted. She couldn't tell me why she couldn't get me a list, only that "Sainsbury's sell a lot of books". Yeah... OK. Maybe I'm doing her a disservice but see whenever someone tells me "I can't do that" without giving a reason I become dissatisfied. Anyone else?

So yeah... Just about to ask Tesco via X... Dunno how that's gonna go but I still have zeeeeero right now. Well next to zero. Might as well be zero as I have nooooo way of confirming do I... I've got in touch with the publishers of the Darling Cove series as well. I left a comment for the author too, on Insta, when she was excitedly talking about "book 4's" release date. It was in Jan. last year I think, the release, paperback, which is what I saw in sains originally. I just don't believe Crawdads the film would've still been on my mind at that point in time. Apologies if I haven't ever mentioned this film before. Do ask me if you'd like clarification. 😉

Oh no, but, what is the front cover like?! I don't think the book I saw was thick enough, or at the right time come to think of it, to be the one, anthology you've mentioned but worth asking I guess. You know, any potential to build on my "may as well be zero" I go going on. Oh... Siiiiigh...

So just to be 100% clear would someone be able to tell me the release date of the paperback version of Darling Cove Collection edition? Was it kindle only? I have strange info from Amazon, the website, not livechat. It was January '23 I believe? That's too late for me.
