Angel Posted January 29, 2008 Author Posted January 29, 2008 It took just 8 evenings - less if I count the amount of times I fell asleep after a busy day at work . It was quite addictive so those pages kept turning !!! Quote
Angel Posted January 29, 2008 Author Posted January 29, 2008 Laura (sorry to double post!) - best line of defense is to sit in the corner with MP3. Everyone gets the hint straight off - and if they don't give them "the look" so they know that they are disturbing you or if said person insists on disturbing use the exasperated 'yes?' and / or 'oh thats good!!!'. Some of seasoned readers on here have used that approach with great effect Quote
Louiseog Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I can't read at work at all don't really have a break if I'm honest Quote
Angel Posted February 1, 2008 Author Posted February 1, 2008 I don't get a proper break at work - if at all! That's my defense mode at home, LOL! Away from the TV, playstation etc Quote
Louiseog Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 I did wonder thought nurses were worse off than us! I can read with the telly etc on, highly annoying for oh who cannot see that I can follow two plots at once but I can! Quote
Angel Posted February 2, 2008 Author Posted February 2, 2008 That really annoys the DH when he tries to discuss a TV plot and I have no idea what he is going on about or I give a distracted "what now?" He assumes I'm listening in the background - as if Quote
Louiseog Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Why is reading so annoying to ohs? Mine has asked me to give up for Lent! Quote
Guest ii Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Because it's exclusive? They're not involved and fell left out? (How's the book coming along, Louise?) Quote
Angel Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 Give up reading for Lent - now that would be self sacrifice!!! I'd rather give up chocolate or biscuits! Truth to tell I think the OH likes it when I'm absobed in a book because he has peace and quiet with total control of the remote sticks - Finished The Observations - quite an interesting read. The language used by the main character Bessy is amusing. Quite a strange idea for the inspiration of madness though!! Now starting Pat McIntosh - The Nicholas Feast Quote
madcow Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Why is reading so annoying to ohs? Mine has asked me to give up for Lent! OMG I'd rather give up chocolate I do think it is a bloke thing though because today all I said was I'm going in the other room to snuggle up on the sofa and read for a while and low and behold hubby, daughter and 2 dogs followed me then got miffed when i ignored them Quote
Icecream Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 My OH likes it when I am reading too. He knows I won't annoy him while he is doing his business and I am absorbed in my book or Christianity magazine, but he still expects me to be listening either to the tv or his phone conversations and looks upset if I don't answer a question. He doesn't really want me to listen anyway! Quote
Angel Posted February 6, 2008 Author Posted February 6, 2008 Icecream Moving onto Susanne Dunlop - Liszt's Kiss Quote
Angel Posted February 8, 2008 Author Posted February 8, 2008 Completed Liszt's Kiss and really quite enjoyed it. As some-one who appreciates classical music I found myself drawn into this one. This really brought the passion of music to life - although it was combined with those age old problems of grief, greed, money and love. Quote
Angel Posted February 9, 2008 Author Posted February 9, 2008 Now reading - Brian Eastman - The Death Tree (a Rosemary and Thyme mystery) Quote
Angel Posted February 9, 2008 Author Posted February 9, 2008 So far it seems to be - but I haven't seen many of the TV series Quote
Louiseog Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Oh well may have to have a look (once again I am persuaded to read more!) Quote

Having studied classical music, which I love, it sounds very interesting indeed. Quote
Angel Posted February 10, 2008 Author Posted February 10, 2008 Finished The Death Tree- quite an easy read, not too taxing for a brain that's full of mushy cold!!! I managed to correctly deduce who the murderer was as well Quote
Angel Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 Just started James Herbert -Once... Quote
Angel Posted February 16, 2008 Author Posted February 16, 2008 I have been really struggling to read this week as I've been quite unwell and due to loads of painkillers and now antibiotics. I've been been told to rest by my Dr. so I have - reading and catching up today Quote
Louiseog Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Get well soon, you sound like you have been really poorly. Have you been off work or like the rest of us and staggered in when you really should not! Quote
Angel Posted February 16, 2008 Author Posted February 16, 2008 Thanks Louise! I took off Fri - Tues and went back way too early on Wednesday (even my managers were surprised I was in!). Last weeks chest infection culminated in large ulcerated areas around my epiglottis and uvula -I have never known pain like it (and I am a pro at the bad throats) my glands have been so swollen in my throat that the pain has been tracking up to my ears. Still I now have a week off (even though it's half-term) off to rest as much as possible and read as much as the kids will let me Quote
