I've never read any Agatha Christie, although I have to admit I'm becoming more and more tempted. I've also only ever read one Ian Fleming (Live and Let Die), which I plan to rectify at some point, so I'll look forward to hearing what you thought of them all.

You should start in on the Agatha Christie ones.

I don't know if you've watched any of the Poirot tv series (starring David Suchet), but he really is the best interpretation of Poirot.

Which do you want me to talk about first, I'll let you choose :jump:

Ok, (finally) I get round to giving my thoughts on Agatha Christie's The Mysterious Affair at Styles.

I would suggest to anyone wanting to read the Poirot novels, that this is definitely the best one to start with, as it is the first one of the 'series', where we first get to know Poirot, and Cpt Hastings. :jump:

Whilst I'd seen the Poirot movies, tv movies and tv series, I'd never read a Poirot novel before this one.

I really enjoyed it, and couldn't wait to get onto the next one I'd got, even though it wasn't the next in the series.

As I was reading, I couldn't help but picture David Suchet as Poirot in my mind.

I found it a very exciting read, with a few surprises along the way.

It certainly made me want to carry on reading more of the series.

I've read Mysterious Affair as well, and I also found that it made me want to read other Poirot books. After reading the descriptions of Poirot, I think David Suchet was a brilliant choice to play the character. I'm glad you enjoyed the book. :jump:

Although not the second in the series, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd was the next Poirot novel I read.

Although I knew that not all the novels had Captain Hastings in, at first I thought it a bit strange not having him there in the novel, however I soon got used to his absence.

It is another well written book, and I must admit I did keep changing my mind as to whodunnit, and was surprised by the result.

The TV episode of this was recently on TV (in the UK), and I watched (well half-watched) it. I have to admit, I did get a bit confused whilst watching, due to the changes that were made to transfer it to TV.

Although I read this some time ago, I've only just remembered about it, so will give my thoughts on it now.

This is not a Poirot novel, however it is another good book by Agatha Christie.

Ten people, all strangers, are invited/lured to stay at a house on a small remote island off the Devon coast.

Upon arriving they realise all is not as they thought, as they are all accused of murder by their host Mr U. N. Owen.

One by one, they are killed off, until (as the title suggests) there are none left.

Whodunnit?! Well, you'll need to read the book to find that out :D

It is cleverly written, and imaginative. Most (possibly all) of the murders are done to 'mimic' the rhyme of the 10 Little Indians, found in each of the character's bedrooms, which certainly helps add to the atmosphere.

Agatha Christie: The ABC Murders

I believe this was the second of the Poirot novels I read.

I suppose, in a sense I was a bit spoiled by the fact I've seen the David Suchet TV episode of this at least twice.

For those that have seen this episode, I believe this to be the closest to the novel, at least of the ones I've read and seen the episodes of.

Having said that, I was truly absorbed by the story, and I'm really glad I read the novel. Yet again, another example of Agatha Christie's excellent writing skills.

Ian Fleming: For Your Eyes Only

Before I started reading this, I didn't realise it was a novel of 5 short stories. It was only when I started on the 2nd chapter (short story) that I decided to read the preface to the book :(

It was interesting reading the (Bond) short stories, I'd only read full novels previously. I really enjoyed these stories, the general ideas of each of the stories was used in the film of For Your eyes Only.

If you've never read any Bond novels before, then I think I'd possibly suggest reading this first, as a nice way to break into the Bond novels.
