lexiepiper Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I don't often browse in bookshops, I usually buy online as it works out cheaper, but when I go into the second hand book shop I rarely come out empty handed Quote
Karen1 Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I never used to be able to enter a bookshop without coming out with at least one book. I'm not so bad now though as I just try and keep in mind my huge TBR pile that's sitting at home waiting to be read. 2009 is going to be the year that I focus on getting it down - which means no buying books. Or at least that's the plan. Quote
SaraPepparkaka Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I did it yesterday! Mainly that was because I had just recieved all I was planning to read in the close future in the mail just the day before, but still. I went in to a bookshop and came out empty-handed. It has never happened before. Quote
pipread Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 The only reason I can resist buying, is because there are usually so many that I want, that I can`t narrow it down, then I spend ages dithering about which to buy and finally I end up deciding to think about it and leave empty handed! Quote
Kate Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Interesting question...depends who I am with! If with my OH then yeah, he doesn't let me buy, but on my own.....I am weak! Quote

anisia Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I always leave the bookstore with a new book! Quote
frankie Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I can resist but only because of the prices. I don't know why I bother going in because I only get sad seeing all the books and not buying any. Quote
Nellie Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Given the number of people who say that they can't resist buying a book, any booksellers on here must be feeling a warm feeling! Quote
pipread Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Snap! Someone just like me! Same for me too It makes me feel better knowing I`m not the only one! Quote
Ceinwenn Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Now, for me, I really have to be in a book buying frame of mind, otherwise I find I wander around the shop, picking up little & buying (usually) nothing. Quote
Nellie Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I was in town today and wandered into Waterstones. I bought 2 books for Mr Nellie. I assume that because the books weren't for me, they don't count? Quote
BookBee8 Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I can go in a bookshop and come out empty handed but it takes a lot of conscious effort. My boyfriend is always dragging me away and complaining that I take 'hours', which is clearly just an exaggeration .... Quote
carm Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 No...even though I sometimes go in with the intention of not walking out with one-one somehow always manages to follow me home!!! Quote

Charm Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I wandered into Waterstones today again as I do every time I'm in town (well you have to dont you ) and I actually came out of it without a book! I did buy my daughter a bookmark though Quote
Nollaig Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I thought I was capable of not buying a book, but I went into one bookshop today and came out with three classics, and then went to TESCO, not even a bookshop but TESCO! and came out with a new release. Whoops. Quote

Whoops. Lol, I'm the same when I go Asda, I think to myself, I'll just have a little glance down the book isle and then always end up picking one or 2 up Quote
Nollaig Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 You know, I'm really grateful to this forum for boosting my reading ambition. I hadn't read a book out of sheer free will in probably over a year, excluding Twilight. Today I picked up 4 books, I've two more new additions lying around and I've just completed several other books. Happy Noll ^_____^ Quote
Kylie Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I just went to a bookshop with $100 and walked out with nothing Too many choices and not enough time to decide then and there! Too bad, because the 20% off books sale ends today! Quote
Raven Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 I just went to a bookshop with $100 and walked out with nothing And you post on this forum?! Get out! Quote
Kylie Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Wait! I can redeem myself! I went back to the bookshop on the same day and spent $80. Is that better? Quote
