anemone Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Hi there, I am Eleonore. I am 25 and actually a scientist - so not working in literature or anything related but it has always been a passion of mine. I am French but I live in Scotland at the moment. Although I really love writing, I don't think I have any out of the ordinary talent, its just something that I like to do for myself. My favourite authors (there are so many!) are among others Jean Giraudoux, Jean Anouilh, Beagle and Maupassant. I'd say I am quite the classical type! But I am always on the lookout for new authors (one of the reasons I subscribed here). Quote
Athena Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Bienvenue! Welcome here ! (I had French class in secondary school, but I don't remember a whole lot on top off my head ) Quote
AbielleRose Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Bonjour! I'm terrible at French despite having taken it in school. I do remember a couple words, but those are mostly from visiting Toronto a few years back. Hope you enjoy the BCF community! Quote
anemone Posted January 26, 2016 Author Posted January 26, 2016 Thanks everyone! Don't worry I won't test anyone on their French I know how difficult a language it is, my mum is a French teacher for foreigners - I always feel bad for them! Looking forward to leaning lots on this forum! Quote
Madeleine Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Hi anemone and welcome. I studied some French authors at school - Maupassant, Anouilh and some Gide - can't remember much about them except a creepy Maupassant short story called "sur l'eau" about some fishermen who find a body! Quote
anemone Posted January 31, 2016 Author Posted January 31, 2016 Thank you Yeah Maupassant's stories are always a bit grim / depressing ! But I still like them Bel-Ami for example is less macabre. But une vie is very sad too. It's all about how unfair life is for some people... Not something you want to read when you need cheering up! Quote
anemone Posted February 6, 2016 Author Posted February 6, 2016 thanks everyone really enjoying it so far! Quote
Emmabbooks Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Hi Anemone, great to see you on here. See you around Quote
