Athena
This week's topic is: Favorite Jokesters / Funny Characters Author's Note: -- In honor of April Fools (a bit late but hey, I don't control when Wednesdays fall), talk about your favorite jokesters, pranksters, and funny characters. ian
There's a series of sci-fi/ fantasy books starting with The Many-Coloured Land, that includes a joker-type character called Aiken Drum. In amongst all the serious characters that are busy trying to kill each other and so rule the planet, Aiken Drum is stronger, more wily and more ruthless than any of them - but does it with a lot of humour and panache. Think a psychic Tyrion from the Game of Thrones series - which would be my other choice.
More reading time required
Tasslehoff Burrfoot - the 'irrepressible Kender from the Dragonlance Chronicles. Not only one of my favourite jokesters but one of my fave characters from all time.
Athena
Hmm, it seems I've been really slacking this month in reporting the Top 5 Wednesday topics. April 11: Auto-Buy Scifi and Fantasy Authors Author's Note: -- This month's crossover topic is your auto-buy authors that write SFF. My top 5 (on top off my head): Brandon Sanderson Peter F. Hamilton Scott Meyer Karen Miller Trudi Canavan April 18: Ideal Mash-Ups Author's Note: -- You know those comp titles they list in synopses that read something like "perfect for fans of Harry Potter and Game of Thrones"! What would be some of your favorite mash ups, that would make you pick up a book? "A mix of ________ and ___________." Remember, you can also incorporate games, tv, movies, etc. Get creative! I can't really think of anything yet here, such stickers don't normally make me pick up a book to be honest. April 25: Favorite Fandom Items Author's Note: -- Whether it's something you own or something you are lusting after, what are some of your favorite fandom items/merch/memorabilia? Your picks don't all have to be from the same fandom! My favourites (book fandoms only, not sure if TV/movies/videogames is/are allowed or not): - My Matilda cushions made by my boyfriend (from purchased fabric) - My Matilda bedsheets set + pillow cases - My A Song of Ice and Fire Stark bookends - My Readathon T-shirt featuring logos from 3 different fandoms I do have some bookish pillows and another favourite bookish T-shirt but they're not from specific fandoms. I also have some bookmarks.
Little Pixie
April 11: Auto-Buy Scifi and Fantasy Authors Jasper Fforde Jim Butcher ( the Dresden Files books ) Connie Willis Tanya Huff ( though, not all of her series - I prefer her urban fantasy ones )

I haven't been posting the prompts for this month, because this month the original author is very busy, and it's actually the theme of this month to redo an old one! Lau_Lou
Who created this topic?
Athena
I created the topic on BCF, but it originated from GoodReads, made by Lainey (gingerreadslainey) and later on taken over by Samantha (ThoughtsonTomes). I haven't posted any May challenges, because there were none. I completely forgot to post about June challenges though . I'm sorry! I forgot about this topic. June 6th: Summer Reads Samantha's Note: --With summer finally kicking off, now is the time to recommend your favorite summer reads, whatever that means to you! June 13th: Favorite Fathers/Father Figures Samantha's Note: -- In honor of Father's Day (in America at least), discuss some of your favorite fictional dads. Athena: * Father's Day in my country (the Netherlands) is this upcoming Sunday, the 17th. I'll have to think about these prompts.
Lau_Lou
Oh I have seen some of Sam’s videos on booktube I have this thing about only been able to read light reads when I am away on holiday. Books by the likes of Sophie Kinsella, Ali McNamara or Jill Mansall or similar authors. They are usually fun, easy to let your mind wander and not have to think too much. There is also something about these type of books especially those that include recipes that are great for this time of year! It is Father’s Day here too in the UK! Or at least England! Will have to think of this too.
Athena
June 20th: Favorite LGBTQ+ Books That Don't Feature Cis M/M Relationships Sam's Note: -- This may seem oddly specific, but in honor of Pride being this month, I wanted to have a topic to celebrate LGBTQ+ books. But, the book community tends to, when given the chance, lift up cis m/m pairings the most. And while those books are still important and valued (we've even had topics covering m/m relationships earlier this year, which featured many cis m/m pairings), I wanted to shine the spotlight on some of those lesser known, recognized, and celebrated books. Here are some on top off my head (I took this to mean LGBTQ+ books that feature a different relationship than the one mentioned. I also know of other LGBTQ+ books but they don't feature a relationship, ie. a memoir or a story that doesn't involve a relationship etc): With relationship (but not cis m/m): Jen Wilde - Queens of Geek A. S. King - Ask the Passengers Claire Kann - Let's Talk About Love Alice Oseman - I Was Born For This Jen Wilde - The Brightsiders Without a relationship: Ash Hardell - The ABCs of LGBT Sam Killerman - A Guide to Gender Alex Bertie - Transmission Alex Gino - George

willoyd
A View from the Harbour by Elizabeth Taylor Battle Cry of Freedom by James P Macpherson The Pursuit of Victory by Roger Knight Gossip from the Forest by Sara Maitland Islander by Patrick Barkham A Shadow Above by Jo Shute Probably in something like that order too (can't make my mind up about GFTF). Only one fiction in the top six this year - my fiction reading has been dominated by book group choices, and they've been really weak so far this year, at least compared to the non-fiction. Athena
July 11th: Future Classics Sam's Note: --What books do you think with stand the test of time? One I've recently read and I can think of on top of my head, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. Other than that though I'll have to give it a bit more of a think. I'd have to think about this, I don't have a log of stuff I have removed, I tend to forget about books I'm not interested in anymore.
