It's just gone midnight, so thought I might as well start the new topic off for February now! :D

I've got a choice of three books to start in the morning, but haven't decided which one it will be yet.  What are you reading this month?

I finished reading The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie in the wee hours of the morning, but I'm counting it as a January book. :) It was very good indeed.

I've started on my first book jar selection, Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond. At around 480 pages of small print, it's going to take me quite a while to read, so I've picked up The Martian by Andy Weir again to read alongside it.

I am reading 'Don't Look Now and Other Stories' by Daphne Du Maurier :)

I'm a quarter of the way into The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey, it's ok, but something significant needs to happen to keep me going for the other three quarters..

I had a good start in January, 5 books being my second best to date, including a couple of big ones too.  Am well underway with the Patrick O'Brian Aubrey/Maturin series, and don't want to let off at the moment, so having finished Post Captain last night, am ready to tuck into HMS Surprise (the third volume) soon.  However, I do want to get going with another non-fiction too, and so read the first chapter of Daniel Levitin's The Organized Mind this morning.  Quite an eye-opener, and will persist.  Needs a clear mind and no distractions though, so might interleave the two books depending on where I am and what is going on around me (I also only have the Levitin book in hardback, so it won't commute well).

I started The Rehearsal by Eleanor Catton this morning (it was the latest pick from my jar), but I'm two chapters in and I'm not a fan so far.  I'll keep going for now, as it's not so unlikeable that I can't carry on, but I'll need to enjoy it more over the next few chapters if I'm going to finish it, and trying to keep an open mind for now  :readingtwo:

Happy February! It really snuck up on me. I have about 100 pages left on The Shadow of the Wind. I really should have pushed through and finished it last night, but I suppose it will be my first read for February.

I'm reading Rudy Simone - Aspergirls: Een wegwijzer voor meisjes en vrouwen met het Syndroom van Asperger (Aspergirls: Empowering Females with Asperger Syndrome) at the moment, which is better so far than the previous book I read on this subject (which I finished two days ago, review will be posted soon). After I finish this, I'm going to think about planning the rest of my library reads, since they are due in a while and it's the read-a-thon next weekend so I'm going to see what I could read before Friday.

Finished The Mangle Street Murders last night :boogie: . I'm now still plodding on with Atwood's Lady Oracle.

...Apparently I got sideways mail.

Anyway it's Longbourn by Jo Baker, which has been on my wishlist for a year or two now, and thanks to Janet who graciously sent me her copy I HAVE IT! And there's a lovely handwritten letter that came with it. I love things like that, I think if someone ever sent me something without a little card or letter I'd feel like they'd done it very begrudgingly

I read some more of The Rehearsal today, but I have to say, I'm not enjoying it one little bit.  I don't think I can face another lunchtime reading it and not getting any enjoyment from it, so I think I'm going to be abandoning it and picking another book out of the Jar of Destiny.  Will write up some more thoughts in my book blog in a bit.

Yes .. no point is there .. it'll just suck the life out of your book reading sessions. You gave it a fighting chance Claire :D Better luck next time xx

Finished The Hours .. enjoyed it SO MUCH!! Can't think why I was dreading it .. what a numbskull  :blush2: Must have been having a bad day last time I tried to read it .. maybe the roast dinner had fallen on the floor again!

Really enjoying The Awakening of Miss Prim too (if this comes out of your jar Claire .. I think you'll like it .. though tis still early days for me) and listening to The Mangle Street Murders .. which is fantastic. I'm only sorry that my opportunities for listening are few and far between at the moment.

Am going to pick from the jar again soon .. who knows what's in store for me this week

I have a good feeling about The Awakening of Miss Prim, Kay.  I read a little bit in the shop before I asked for it for Christmas. :D

I keep picking up The Mangle Street Murders in my local bookshop too … even before Steve's fantastic review of it.  I'm sure I'll end up buying it soon, although I think I'll probably Kindle it rather than paperback.

I did too (with Miss Prim :D) The Mangle Street Murders is fantastic Claire and I KNOW you will love it. Wish I had bought an actual copy .. Audible tempted me in with a two for one. You could've borrowed it then. I might still get hold of a copy as I love to have books in the house that I love :)

I finished a small collection of Andy Weir's (free) short stories, from his website, which I linked in my review and Pontalba linked in her thread.  This is a small triumph for me, as it has been impossible for me to finish anything I start reading!  :banghead:

I'll be watching the film again at some point in the near future. It's been a while since I saw it, but I remember thinking Kathy Bates was brilliant (if not terrifying).
