We have sunshine today and I took some photos of Poinsettia Glace in bright light....now it looks much better. :)

That really is just gorgeous Muggles !! The white seems to bring out the texture of the flowers (or are they actually leaves?)

(Is that a new supply of wine you're trying to sneak into the house in the first photo?? Not a very good hidey place :giggle2: )

Gorgeous, muggle, just gorgeous!! :)

Most definitely what Pontalba says above, plus an extra gorgeous from me. They looked great in your earlier photographs Muggle Not, but the light difference has shown them to much greater effect.

Thanks everyone. It is by far my favorite poinsettia.

poppy - Not wine but close. The red and black boxes are what I bought myself for Christmas but didn't put them under the tree yet. They are Reidel Bourdeau/Cabernet wine glasses (total of 8 glasses) :)

That would be so frustrating Talisman.  The question you probably need to ask, is does this mean the new place will be worse than where you are?  I know that sort of goings on would be put me off changing.

It has me too to be honest. While it is true that this new job would pay a lot more, it is also further from home and the hours are less than ideal. If I am honest, I did already have some doubts and this has only served to exacerbate them.

My current job though is also less than perfect (which is of course why I went looking for another one in the first place), and I know that in the long term I do need to get out of here. I also though know that this has to be at the right time and for the right alternative. I am not convinced at all that this is it.

We are in the midst of a consultation process at work at the moment, as they are changing our shift times at the end of March and asking everyone to do weekends. What I will probably then do it wait until then and see if things here improve. If they don't, or if I am still feeling fed up, there is another new home opening about 15 minutes from where I live in the summer, so when they start recruiting I will probably try them.

Talisman,

My Mother always said, "when in doubt, don't".

I think you're wise to take a wait and see attitude.

I think this is good advice.

Today I did something I never imagined myself doing......I bought my 84 year old Dad a skateboard for Christmas! :o  :giggle2:

He is going in for a knee operation at the beginning of January and it was suggested by the physiotherapist that a skateboard under the foot rolled back and forth, whilst sitting down I hasten to add, gives great physio movement to the recuperating knee. So I just bought a mini skateboard that is 43 centimetres / 17 inches long. It will easily slide underneath my Dad's chair when he isn't using it, and I've told him that the great grandkids can have it once he is fully healed. Well, it makes a change from socks! ;)

After a couple of days of only a mild sore throat I have managed to lose my voice. It is very strange, I've been reduced to a croaky whisper, and all the while I feel just fine. So it's lots of warm drinks, and an avoidance of anything too strenuous I reckon. :D Just to be on the safe side.

I hope the knee surgery goes well :). I hope your voice gets better soon, it's not nice at all when you can't talk!

If the throat continues to bother you too long, please see a doctor. Get well, Christmas is not too far off and we will miss your singing voice. :)

Thanks Muggle Not.

My husband is a little too happy about this turn of events, and rubbed his hands together gleefully and talked about finally getting a quiet Christmas! I wonder if this is maybe a Christmas wish of his that was fulfilled. I am seeing a nurse tomorrow over another matter, but will mention this if it is still bothering me.

I want to see pictures of him on it !

Thanks Bookmonkey. I am only under the weather though certainly not ill, so sounding like a frog who is breathing helium isn't too bad. :giggle2:

Today I am hoping to finally hang the curtains in the new conservatory. They are lovely, and I have spent the past couple of days washing and ironing them in preparation. They are currently draped over two chairs. Today is the day to check the fittings and hang them up. It's starting to get cosy in there, all we need now is a heater to actually make it cosy. Guess where I plan on us eating our Christmas lunch? :D

I was, but no longer. Or am I a roaring mouse Muggle Not?.  I hope to be adding to the song list later, once I have got my sluggish brain cells woken up! :P

Yay!  I get to travel tomorrow with weather warnings up the wazoo!

Going to head off earlier than I would have done in the hopes of making it to my parents before 2014.

Hope you get there OK Raven.

I had a lovely afternoon tea with my grandmother and mother today.  My mother and I have just reconnected in the last year or so after 16 years.  She was with an abusive guy who cut her off from all her family and friends.  She left him last year so has been getting in touch with everyone again.  It's great to be able to see her again, and to see her happy for the first time.

I'm glad she left him, bookmonkey, and that you all had a lovely time :).

We've made and printed the Christmas menus, all that's left now is to do a lot of preparations tomorrow (can't do it too early or the food will go off). So today I'll be relaxing and tomorrow I'll be doing a lot.

Oh Chrissy...sorry you have  been feeling crook.....and I love you skateboard story....photo of him using it... :giggle2:

Thanks Diane, all is well now aside from an occasional croaky voice and an annoying 4 am dry cough that coincides with my get-out-of-bed-bladder! :D

Dad loves his skateboard. He thought it would be a giant thing, but this cute little (17inces) board with it's blue wheels and colourful underside is just what was needed. He is all ready for his op now, with shorts to wear in the hospital and a skateboard waiting for him when he gets out! Sounds ever so sporty doesn't it?

We are sitting in our lovely new conservatory with the rain and wind doing it's worst outside, but we feel cosy and comfortable. We did a last run out to Tesco at 6 this morning to get some minor bits, and have been happily 'in' since. I have no plans to leave the house again today!

There are trees down at both ends of our village this morning, so it looks like it will be a morning at home. I guess it can't be helped. When you live in a place like this you kind of expect this sort of thing. I am amazed though that our fence is still standing.

I'm glad you're allright, Talisman! It's been storming pretty badly in the UK and here in the Netherlands. I had a bit of trouble sleeping because the storm was so loud. Gladly it looks like all the trees in our garden are allright and still standing.

Our next door neighbour went out in his car a little while ago, as he has to go and pick up the turkey for tomorrow, so I decided to try as well. The tree that was down along the main road was being cleared, but when I got a bit further up to a dip in the road, there was about 2 feet of water with a long line of cars turning round. Several cars that had tried to get through were stranded by the side of the road, so I decided to turn round as well, as I didn't want my car to get flooded. When I got to the other end of the road, that was coned off by the National Trust. presumably due to fallen trees - so, I am definitely not going anywhere.

When I rang work though to let them know, the ditzy receptionist was not best pleased. She informed me that as she had walked through 3 feet of water to get there (unlikely, as this would up to her waist), then I had to also. My response was to tell her that they could pay for a new engine, as the nearest train station is four miles away down the same road that was coned off, and the trains are not running anyway. Stupid girl ! :Tantrum: I don't know what her problem is, as they won't have to pay me anyway. If I am not there then they might finally realise how much work I do !

It is this sort of thing that makes me feel that I really do have to get out of this place.
