I've Won, I've been selected as A First Read on Goodreads for The Tunnel By S.D. Tooley. I'm really pleased and excited that I get to Firstreads a book on behalf of all the Goodreads fans out there, who are yet to discover the many Goodreads there at goodreads to be discovered on bookclubform.com. Is that subtle enough?

Many other Bookclubforums are available, Bookclubforums gives you the opportunity to discuss amicably and, violently, your opinions on romantic, lovey dovey, bleurgh fiction.

It also allows mature discussion on Fantasy, Science and Crime fiction, So checkout Bookclubforum for all your future goodreads.

Dexmas has come early this year, 1 x  Galaxy Tab 2 ,7.0. 1 x 32" JVC Interactive television with all those crazy ports you need. I'm currently watching A couple of Paradise Lost videos on Youtube, through my Wifi.

I just had to go into a store and check out how to connect my tv so the iplayer would work. And ask about a flash drive to record programs on.

I'll be choosing a new book to read later as I've got round to finishing Old Man's War.

The Drop - Michael Connelly, 418 Pages bk 69

Re-read

I thought The Black Box was going to be published a bit later than it was . So I'd intended these to be christmas reading. Then with other reading ideas going out the window (Cleeves), I decided to bring this forward so I could get my mojo back.

Then I remembered I'd got to read Girl, Stolen, so I put down The Drop and did that.

I did enjoy reading it again, but with the nature of procedurals you remember what happens, even if you read lots in between.

Now I have got other books to try based on the fact that I have to review 1 of them before it's published, so probably best to start those 2 next. They are short p,250 ish each.

Book 68 Girl Stolen - April Henry

Cheyenne Wilder is asleep in the back of the car while her stepmother collects a pescription. Before Cheyenne realizes what's happening, the car is being stolen. Griffin hadn't meant to kidnap her, but once his dad finds out that her father

is the president of a powerful corporation, everything changes - now there's a reason to keep her.

I took a rest from reading The Drop today and Read Girl, Stolen - April Henry instead. It was a quick and easy read that I enjoyed.

Nothing Else Matters - S.D. Tooley, 254 Pages

'Something got Davud's attention, right at Gholam's waistline where his shirt seemed to strain at the buttons. Gholam was a big man, but there seemed to be added bulk. It was slight, He had to watch carefully, Now he was sure. The fabric was moving'.

He's known by the codename Sparrow, Authorities can only identify him by the tattoo on the back of his hand. Sparrow is a gun for hire and his next targewt is Reverend Emmett Smith. His orders are to kill the Reverend on the River Queen casino. But just before he pulls the trigger, someone beats him to it.

The reverend is carrying $50,000 in counterfeit money. Sparrow soon realizes the fee he was paid is counterfeit. Sparrow is one man you don't want to cross.

Detective seargent Samantha Casey  is back after her debut in When the Dead Speak. Suspended from the force after her last case. Sam is having a difficult time adjusting to unemployment. But there are more unsettling changes in her life than unemployment.

The Owners of The River Queen Casino hire Sam to clear them of any involvement in the Reverend's death. And who should be working the case for the Chasen Heights Police department but Jake Mitchell, the one person she holds responsible for her suspension.

Sparrow plays a  cat and mouse game with sam's young computer friend, Tim, wits with Sam. Just who is Sparrow? Why does sam have deams of hot lights, unbearable pain, bizarre torture techniques? And why does she keep hearing a strange mantra in her head - ' Other than survival, Nothing else matters'?

I found this book to be another easy read, I like the characters Sam Casey and Jacob Mitchell. Jackie was also a fun character.

The Tunnel - S.D Tooley

post-8563-0-57807200-1386615133_thumb.jpg

A reference to nepotism by the Mayor on behalf  of his nephew.

'He would be the fall guy, especially as Kojak had the office of The Major watching his back.' Page 12

'Her hair standing on end like Methuselah's Snakes wasn't making a good impression.' Page 62  :giggle2:

When I started this book I came across some errors and I thought, here we go, It,s going to be full of them and They're going to put me off, but hey I've stopped noticing them.

I've enjoyed both the books I've read by S.D Tooley, Nothing Else Matters and The Tunnel, I know every character has to have a quirk to make them stand out and it's hard to be original and not over the top.

Based on my reading experience Sam Casey seems to be a cross between Kevin Byrne from the Philidelphia, Richard Montanari books and Will Graham from Red Dragon by Thomas Harris.

There's a mixed bag as usual when it comes to the supporting cast.....

S.D. Tooley compares the character to Alison Dubois from Medium, I hadn't thought of that even though I have watched it.

I think I'm read out this year, I'm going to finish the book I'm reading now and have a rest for a bit. I think next year I'll only try to read about 60 books. If I do read 1 more I'll average 6 a month.

I've just bought The Terrorists - Sjowall & Wahloo for a pound from The Works.

The Works do have some really good deals don't they, i was very tempted by the Game Of Thrones set they had on offer but i'm trying to be good & refrain from buying so many books at the moment so i resisted  :ob_angelic:
