Devi Posted August 28, 2014 Author Posted August 28, 2014 (edited) Reading has come to a halt at the moment, issues with nerve pain - MS related. Been put back on 24/7 opiate based pain patches again - that combined with the morphine or forte (depending on the day) is leaving me extremely tired. Its bugging me because I am so close to the end of A Clash of Kings! I am even tempted to ask my partner if he would read the last few pages out loud to me. I have been trying to keep on doing my photography though, these are my latest shots which I am super proud of. If you can spare five minutes I would greatly appreciate some feedback. No pressure of course! - http://www.bookclubforum.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/9972-devis-photography/page-20 ETA: sorry in advance if I muddle my sentences or misspell some words, I am double checking before I post, but I may miss something due to tiredness. Athena Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 I hope you feel better soon, Devi. I'm glad at least you can still do some photography from time to time . Quote

Signor Finzione Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Sorry to hear you're not doing so well. How well do you get along with audiobooks? Your photographs are lovely. I especially like the dried flowers, though they make me sad for some reason. Quote
Devi Posted August 29, 2014 Author Posted August 29, 2014 Oh don't be sorry ladies! I've had pain most of my life. Funnily enough, if I was ever pain free, it would feel weird to me, because its been such a part of my life. Don't get me wrong, I don't enjoy being in pain, its just I have learnt to deal with it that its kind of like an itch, you notice, make note, scratch and move on. Sounds so wrong doesn't it... I don't know how to express it without sounding like some freak. Its just the nerve pain thats getting me, its new and a different type of pain, and does weird stuff to my head. Audio books - not so well. I find now days I can be easily distracted or go off in what I call zombie mode. Unless I am doing something with my hands, like holding a book/kindle, or taking photos etc, I lose focus and before I know it, I missed a whole paragraph or chapter. I used to be able to multitask very well, you have to to be a games developer, now I am more of a one activity type gal - which annoys me but hey, can't do much about it at the moment. Quote

Devi Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 (edited) Hope you feel a bit better soon, Devi. Thanks, getting there. Trying to focus on this week. Its my boyfriends birthday on thursday, getting my hair done - first time in years! Then its my birthday on saturday. All things being good, I will finally be getting to the weekly book fair they have in the city. Its only ever on a saturday, but its all day, free entry, wheelchair friendly! and has new and pre-loved books. Oh and one of my favourite restaurants to eat out at, gives a free meal valued at $20 every year on your birthday. So we are both going there sometime too. Edited August 31, 2014 by Devi Quote
Little Pixie Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Aw, sounds like you have some lovely things planned. Have a great time. Quote
Signor Finzione Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Sounds like you have an exciting week planned! Hope you have a great time - it's always nice to have something (or several things!) to look forward to. And I know what you mean about audiobooks - I struggle listening to things without zoning out too. And, you're not a freak. I think I understand what you mean about getting accustomed to a certain type of pain. I hope the nerve pain goes away soon, and that your eventful week helps take your mind of things. Quote
Athena Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I hope you have a great time this week, Devi! I couldn't listen to audiobooks either, I sometimes zone out while watching TV or a YouTube video too. My medication helps me concentrate better so it's happening less often. You're not a freak at all! I think you have to get accustomed to it, how else would you deal with it otherwise? I hope your nerve pain gets better soon. Quote
Anna Begins Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 what kind of Kindle do you have? With some, you can do Immersion reading, where the audiobook follows the book. So you can follow along in the text, while having it read to you. It's really neat. Sorta like subtitles for a book? In reverse Quote

In reverse I love this idea, but had no intentions of using it at the time I bought my kindle, so didn't consider it. I have a kindle paperwhite. Quote

I don't really want to talk about it, not supposed to get stressed, but I will say we got in contact with some advocate groups who are going to talk and fight for us on our behalf. Well right now as I type this, I have the tv on pause so as not to muddle my words. Sometimes I will type whats said on tv. Quote
Devi Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 I just had to show you all this! I still think the simpsons can pull off some great intros. This one is based on Guillermo del toro, its amazing how many references they got in! Might wanna listen to it low though, the ding gets quite annoying after a bit. Quote

But the animation's great, there was a lot of good stuff in that intro . Quote
Devi Posted September 3, 2014 Author Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) Well i finally finished the second game of thrones book! My friend is going to lend me their kindle to read the third on, and the rest if i wanted to, but will see how I go. Don't want to borrow their kindle for too long, in case they have books to read on it. Kindle will sit nicely in my book seat, so I won't have to hold it, which means longer reading periods. Athena Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Congrats on finishing it ! I hope reading on the Kindle will work out better for you. Quote
Devi Posted September 3, 2014 Author Posted September 3, 2014 I can't remember but is the third game of thrones book the one everyone thought the best so far? Quote
Signor Finzione Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Hope all goes well with the Kindle. Yeah, Storm of Swords (parts 1 & 2) seems to pretty much be the universal favourite of the series. It's great. Quote

I really have to thank you for this suggestion! I am totally getting my friend one, maybe my old paperwhite for her birthday or a new one for Christmas, I'm not sure. I'm glad you finished and found a solution! Your friend is very nice to loan the Kindle. Have fun with book 3! Quote

Your friend is very nice to loan the Kindle. Have fun with book 3! Yeah i love my kindle! I just didn't want to have to re-purchase game of thrones, its $80 for the set of e-books here. I already payed about $15 per paperback, so I didn't really want to double up. I realised after i could of just got a library loan, but the way i am reading atm, the loan would run out before I finished it. Bookseat is good, except for holding thicker books like game of thrones. I use mine for my ipad too. Quote
Devi Posted September 3, 2014 Author Posted September 3, 2014 6 girls and 2 boys, I named one fudge.... though I can't remember which one now. Quote
