What's Up In October?

I'm moving to an very old train way-house at the moment. Its so massively dirty that scrubbing the tiny living room took 3 persons and all day. I'm now in the library trying to upload some Uni project related things since the house does not - and most likely will never - have internet. It does have a garden though and with that its better then most students can hope for.

Argon9, been there and done that. In a word, ICK! Sympathies. Good luck with the rest of it though.

On a personal note, I still haven't been able to schedule dog's surgery because doctors are still sending me for more tests to try and figure out why I occasionally go blind. Starting to feel like a guinea pig. Now we've reached the point of repeating tests. Again, I'm happy to have this long time problem finally addressed, but still want to get dog's surgery over with before she gets any older. Okay, whine officially over!

I have Thursday and Friday off - woo long weekend! I'm very grateful for this as I haven't had more than three days off since August; and the start of this month as well as September was very tiring with everything going on at work. I have no plans really, think I'll just chill out and rewatch previous seasons of Merlin (new season just started and reminded me how much I love it!)

I have another 3 days to go before I finally get a weekend off. It has not been a good week at work so far - I was the only housekeeper on duty for 3 days in a row, plus I will be on my own again on Friday - my 7th day in a row, so not particularly happy. It is though what it is, and moaning doesn't seem to change anything !

I hope they get to the bottom of it for you soon. I had something like that years ago. I have really poor eyesight anyway, but would occasionally completely lose vision. Never did figure it out, and it stopped after a couple of months, so I didn't go back to the doctor.

I'm very sorry to hear about your great-uncle, Laura :empathy:. I'll be thinking of you and your family.

Good luck with all of your tests, Wordsgood - I hope they figure it out swiftly for you!

Have fun on your long weekend, Noll! I've often seen 'Merlin' in my Netflix queue but haven't tried it yet. I think I might have to do that :)

Mom and I toured quite a few places this weekend, hunting for a home for us, and finally found one! I submitted all the paperwork yesterday so fingers crossed we'll be approved by the end of this week. If all goes well we can start moving in at the end of the month! This weekend we'll be making one last trip up to the cabin before winter, and next week my sister is coming back to town to help us pack, pack and oh yes, pack.

I hope everyone has a lovely rest of their week :D.

I wonder how someone can forget to clean for 30 years. The guy smoked indoors but I can now report that I got most of the icky cigarette smell out. ^.^

Oh gosh! That must be scary! Losing your vision at random intervals. I hope they find it and that it is something minor and easy fixable and not something more major like diabetes or worse!

Thank you :empathy:

I have the funeral on Tuesday so I'll be travelling up early Tuesday morning and home late that night, one of the unfortunate things of having family futher away than i would like!

That's hardly a whine wordsgood! Would be quite frightening. Hope they sort it out soon and can give you a reasonable explanation. :empathy:

Going to visit my Mum today. She had a heart valve replacement op at the beginning of the month, and due to (among other things) a stinky cold, I haven't been able to see her properly, so today is the day. She has been home for 9 days and doing great. :D Her doctor said that "It won;t be a walk in the park", and according to Mum he wasn't lying, but each day that has passed she is feeling a little better.

In other news, we have neice, her husband and two children staying with us on Saturday night. It will be fun but hectic.

First, a bit thanks to all for your encouragement and support!

Did finally get an answer today and it well, it wasn't good. It's not lethal, thankfully, but it would seem I have MS. Specialist thinks because of my history I've probably had it for at least 15 years and possibly longer. Unfortunately I was misdiagnosed with fibromyalgia about ten years ago and since then everything has just been put to that. But the good news is doctor (neurologist/opthamologist) has a lot of experience and was very patient explaining things to me. Of course I will have see more doctors and related health care professionals to figure out what treatments might work, but for now I'm just happy to finally have an answer. It's been a very long-time coming. Yeah, I have a lot to learn and frankly, am terrified. But again, I'm happy to finally have a real answer to the the periodic blindness and a host of other issues that have been ignored or incorrectly treated for many years. And it looks like I might won't have to depend solely on my rather unhelpful GP.

Best news of all? Finally get to book dog's surgery for sometime in the next two weeks. After recovery, I will finally be able to accept puppy kisses again! :clapping: Though I'm expecting her to thoroughly play up the recovery for every drop of sympathy she can get. She wasn't exactly what you'd call brave for any of her previous ones. Well okay, she's not really brave about anything. Neighbour's cat terrifies her. She seems convinced the little dog next door, her pal when they meet each other, grows into a monstrously huge scary beast when separated by a fence they can't see each other through. Our cats push her around all the time. She's afraid of the dark though her vision is perfect. These are just a few of her neurosis. :giggle2: Good thing we don't count on her for guard dog duties. :giggle::D

Chrissy, very pleased to hear your Mom is recovering well. :friends3: for you both!

Inver, I hope you get your kitchen back soon. :D

Poppy, thanks. It is scary, but at least I've gotten most of vision back each time.

Muggle, listen close. This might be foreign to you but I promise it's the absolute truth...retirement means you DON'T go to work anymore! :giggle2:

Laura, hope the service went well and you're okay. :friends3:

Oh Wordsgood. :friends0: At least you know what beast you are battling, but my goodness it must be a shock.

Great that your scaredy cat of a dog will get sorted out. And what the heck is recovery time about if not for being spoiled? :D

My visit with my parents was great. Mum is definitely getting better, but she also clearly someone who has recently undergone a major Op. I stayed for an hour and half, but felt an hour had probably been enough for her. I think Dad needed a little attention too so had a second cuppa with him.

It is wet and windy down our way today, and I am thinking that doing very little for the rest of the day might be quite nice.....however a few chores have to happen so I will get myself into gear and head on out into this grotty weather soon, then when I return I can be 'done' for the day guilt free. :giggle2:

Hey wordsgood, I just wanted to let you know I know exactly what you are going through. I was diagnosed with ms back in 2010, but my neurologist believes I had it at least two years prior to diagnosis. I also get vision problems sometimes, as there is a lesion right behind my right eye that makes it turn glassy. I was in hospital three times to have steroids to fix it last year.

I was originally diagnosed with relapsing remitting ms, but now that's been changed to primary progressive ms as only a month ago. It feels like I have been told I have ms all over again as it's a bit more serious than the relapsing remitting type.

If you ever need to talk to someone, about ms, or anything else, please do not hesitate to pm me!

If you live in Australia, I can give you some contacts and information on services available to you.

wordsgood - I wish you the best. Specialists can do wonders sometimes. Hopefully your problems will get resolved and you live a long and healthy life.

Re - my retirement. I received a preformance review this week. On a scale of 1 - 9, I received an 8. I was also asked that after my retirement from full time (40 hours week) if my decision to work only 18 hours a week until the end of the year was firm or would I be willing to exceed those hours at times. Thinking!!! :)

Devi, thank you so much for your kind offer! I just may take you up on that. Right now, after several meltdowns, I'm just trying to take a break from it all for a while.

I'm so very sorry to hear that yours has moved to the progressive form. From the little I've read so far, I can certainly understand why hearing that is like going through the first time all over again. These are for you :flowers2: and this too :empathy: !

The doc who gave me the news did mention steroids and was surprised no one had mentioned them with either loss of vision. I hope neither of us has this issue again!

I'm in Canada but we do have a local office where I'm scheduled to go in December for more scans. Something about enhanced ones to try and pin down which lesions are currently inflamed or something like that that. After than I'm supposed to be seeing the original neurologist who first suspected this was the problem and her main office is at the MS clinic, so I'm sure they will be able to provide me with a lot more information and help. Just have to get through the next few months without chewing my arm off! :giggle2:

Muggle not, you review sounds like great score so congrats! And them wanting you to stay says a whole lot about how valued you are. But...I still don't think you're understanding the whole concept of retirement. :giggle:

Laura, some retails therapy after the year you're having sounds like an AWESOME idea! Have fun with your cadets.

Yesterday I made marmalade for the first time - and it's damned fine, if I say so myself!

Today, Xan and I will be heading to the post office, then to the library this morning, then this afternoon, I'll be making rhubarb and ginger jam - one of my favourites! I've never made it before, but I'm looking forward to trying it! :)

I haven't posted on here for a while, but it has been an interesting week. About 6 weeks ago my boss, the Head Housekeeper had her appraisal and she naturally enough brought up the subject of a pay rise (we haven't had one in all of the 3 1/2 years I have worked here and now earn just 19 pence an hour above minimum wage - bear in mind also that I have recently completed an NVQ 2). She was asked to put it in writing, and knowing that I too want one, thought that if I did the same thing, it would add weight to her argument. So that is what we both did. 2 weeks ago I had my own appraisal, during which the Care Home Manager said that if she had anything to do with it, we would get that rise, but sadly she does not sign the cheques. The cheques are signed instead by our Director, a former Director of Barclays Capital (say no more), who thinks nothing of spending money on vases, mirrors and furniture that we do not need - anything it seems except the staff. His idea of treating us properly is the annual Christmas party, which is a waste of time anyway.

Six weeks later, despite repeatedly asking the Care Home Manager, we are yet to receive an answer, in fact I am not even sure if the Director has even seen our letters, since they appear to have been just plonked in his in tray. So yesterday I spoke to Steve, who is the Company Advisor and asked him if he knew anything, and he has promised to investigate. The Director was there yesterday and requested a private meeting with the Manager, and before I left our Administrator informed me that "things were being dealt with", so if there is still no joy by this time next week, I shall have no alternative than to just ask him direct. I did not want to do this, as this man has an answer for everything, and will it seems do anything other than the right thing, but I am heartily fed up with all this waiting around, and in a fighting mood, and so will be more than ready for him. Wish me then copious amounts of luck.

It seems that lady luck is already smiling anyway, since I received my first royalty statement from Amazon a few days ago since kindleising my book, and have sold 3 copies - not a lot but everything helps, and the T shirt I wanted has also just been reduced by a third, so I am off to Guildford tomorrow to pick one up along with the trousers that I ordered. Today will be a somewhat less exciting day - haircut and food shopping.

Best of luck June, I hope it works out well for you.

I'm getting really excited about Halloween! I need to practise the make up over the weekend, dye my hair at some point, and try and find my necklace from last year. My friend and I are hoping to go to a scare house on Tuesday, as well as having lots of Halloween candy, and then dressing up and going out on Wednesday! I've even booked Thursday off in anticipation of my enormous hangover!

Done! Fingers crossed and am sending you good luck vibes. I'd cross my toes to, but I don't think that would work out too well. :giggle2: Seriously though, I really hope you finally get some results. Wonder if it would help if we all signed a petition for you...... :blush2:

Nollaig, your fuuunnnnyyy! :giggle:Planning for a hangover...wish I'd been that smart when I still partied. Have fun! Not too much though, wouldn't want to see you drink yourself sick. :D
