I just finished Bruno, Chief of Police - 99p atm - and there`s a free Xmas story too. A nice, gentle and rewarding read.

I`m behind with book reviews again. Last night I got round to reading Bruno, Chief of Police - I liked it so much, I`m looking forward to reading the other 8 in the series. There`s also a free Xmas story which I`ll read later today. Bruno - fortysomething Chief of Police in a village in S-W France - is a veteran with a secret sorrow ( will he be able to love again ?! ) who spends most of his time helping to protect the villagers of St Denis from EU bureaucrats, who are seeking to disrupt the local market with their petty rules. The rural area is shocked when a particularly nasty murder occurs, and Bruno gets himself involved in the investigation, alongside the National Police. It`s a pleasant, gentle read, full of food and the countryside, with plenty of charming characters. I`m surprised it hasn`t been turned into a TV show yet.

I think if I`d been in a happy, bouncy state of mind, I`d`ve continued with the film . I needed something fluffy and cheering at the time, I suspect. Oh ! I meant to plug Scott and Bailey to you - it`s like a grim version of Cagney and Lacey, but in a good way.

There`s also a film of the book. I got halfway through it and decided it was too depressing to continue.

I saw the first ep of River and really liked it, but then didn`t get round to watching the rest of it . I`ll catch up when it repeats. I did watch Unforgotten, which also had Nicola Walker in it - very good.

How long till the last 3 eps of Lewis are available for you ?

Still got last week`s Arrow to watch, but.. The Flash 2 x 07 Barry makes miracle recovery ! Hurrah ! Aw, a Planet of the Apes bit at the end - shame they didn`t show a Mrs Grodd wearing lipstick and a little hair bow. It didn`t take long for Cisko`s coffee shop lady to be revealed...

Oooh ! Oooh! And boo ! That one`s not shown in the Uk till the 9th Dec. No eps next week.

If they can make a musical about cats....

Dude ! Team Oliver ! It surprised me too - I think it`s the Lance/Oliver on-off bromance, and Paul Blackthorne`s been just excellent ( makes me think about getting out My Dresden Files boxset ). Just saw this - off topic - FNL the Musical.

Smartypants. Barry`s Dad as The Flash ! Cheesy doesn`t begin to describe it - it`s a whole lot of fromage.

Exactly ! Kylie, I gave up on Arrow just before it got good. Now that I`m watching The Flash - and watching Arrow again, I think that Arrow is even better than The Flash. So, do stick with Arrow, even with all the ` Oliver removes shirt to distract audience from plot` moments.

I read it a couple of weeks ago - it`s excellent. The author uses the device of time-travelling historians to tell the story of the Blitz, so you learn about WW2 through their eyes and it doesn`t feel like a massive info dump. BTW, Blackout and All Clear are one book split into two volumes.

Have you tried any of the short stories ? I`m wondering if they`re just as good.
