Congratulations on your book count!!
I hope your test turns out ok and that you're feeling better soon
Aw, thank you.
I`ve got a bit of a migraine atm - as opposed to feeling absolutely hideous with it - so I`m betting that`s a sign that my liver`s repairing itself. I`m going to have drinks at New Year ( I haven`t had alcohol for 2 and 1/2 years ) so that`ll be a test to see how things are !
-
I`m eagerly awaiting the new Dan Brown, Origin , Jasper Fforde`s Early Riser and the untitled Deborah Harkness book.
-
I thought of rewatching Rashomon, or The Seventh Seal. Instead I went for.... Grumpy Cat`s Worst Christmas Ever. With Aubrey Plaza as the sarcastic voice of Grumpy Cat. Not as bad as you`d think.
-
I might consult the library catalogue to see if they are available.
Ellie is currently fond of Maisy books (just the same book over and over again though.
) and this set of 4 Axel Scheffler animal books, so it's more for me to get other books as I want some variety.
I almost ordered The Omen Machine
. Then I decided to wait until I know the series is definitely over ( `cos I`ve been caught like that before
).
I took a peek at Ellie`s books - Katie the Kitten !
-
Ooh, pwetty mugs !
-
Love The Thirteeth Tale by Diane Setterfield. Hope you enjoy it when you read it (which will probably be soon judging by your reading rate
).
Thanks - I had it in my ` buy at some point` list for ages, thought I`d finally give it a go.
-
Aw, happy to help.

I can't really remember what happened to Nicci...
(here's where I'm missing the old :ponder: emoticon from the Culty board
)
I was in the library the other day looking at kids books with Ellie and before I went, I sneaked a look at the fiction section. I saw the last Sword of Truth book and the penultimate one too, which I probably would have got had they also had the 2nd book in the "quadriliogy".
I can`t remember either, but I remember what a great character she was. : ponders:
Ooh, are you going to order the books through the library ??
What`s Ellie reading now ? And why isn`t she on BCF ?
Its` never too early to start being a book fairy ( it sounds better than nerd
).
-
Is it Guardians of the Flame- Joel Rosenberg ?
Boo at your books going missing.
-
Noooo
* Cackles* Looks pretty good, don`t it !

Those sound like two interesting books
. What's a DIY wedding? Is that when the couple do everything themselves, like cooking the food?
Exactly. She`s an artist, and even built the barn for the wedding venue ! You can see lots of her work here.
It`s the third book of hers I`ve read ; I have a couple more in my TBR pile.

Secrets of Mariko - Elisabeth Bumiller A journalist spends a year observing a `typical` Tokyo housewife, her husband, children and parents, all living in the same house. Engrossing.
Something New - Lucy Knisley Autobiographical cartoonist`s graphic memoir of events leading up to her DIY wedding. Delightful.

Those are both good ideas
. I'm thinking of doing some festive reads myself (my current one is festive).
Haha, no
. I doubt I'm going to get to 425 to be honest. I've currently read 416 books. December is always a busy month for me and I want to focus on some festive reads and books for adults and YA for a while, generally longer books than the short children's books I have been reading the past while, so I don't think I'll get to even 425. It also doesn't help that I've got a new hobby now - colouring for adults, and I'm doing a lot of book cataloguing, fixing things up in my database. But who knows, maybe it'll be around 425. I'm kind of saddened I won't be getting to 100,000 pages this year - currently I've read 92944 pages (minus my current read) and I'd have to read a whole lot to get to 100,000. It was a nice accomplishment in 2015 though (as was 502 books). But for the next while I plan to focus on longer books for adults and YA rather than short children's books and not go to the library as often, just read what I want to when I feel like it. We'll see how things go though, I probably won't be able to resist going to the library in a while so
.
You`ve had a really productive year
( and colouring books still count, right ?
).
-
Nice
! Do you think you'll get to 175 this year?
Maybe.
I was thinking of reading one big book to finish - like The Luminaries ( Eleanor Catton ) or The Valley of Amazement ( Amy Tan ) - but now I`m thinking that to feel a bit more Christmassy, I could dig into some Festive Books.
Do you think you`ll get to 450?
-
This x a million. I get them out of the library now though, have since book 11 or so. I used to read them every summer holiday so they bring back memories of lying by the pool with not a care
but man, she needs to can it. But until she does, they are my little guilty pleasure.
It's like pop tarts, you know they're bad for you and there will be remorse at the end, but you just can't help yourself.

It would be Horror-ble if there wasn't!

Have added Underfoot in Show Business to the wishlist - it sounds great.

Congrats to you on your graduation, Virginia!! It must feel so good!
Well done to you as well, Talisman, on your recent promotion
I've also got good news - I was able to find another job within my company! Just in the nick of time too, since last Friday was to be my last day at my old job. Now that I have that figured out I can feel relaxed at the holidays and start looking for a house to buy closer to town. So much for which to be thankful!
That`s brilliant ! Well done !

I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well

.
Some of those maps are quite interesting
!
Thank you !
And now to get up to date with Books Read.
-
Wow, I had no idea! I just looked up Terry Goodkind on Wikipedia and didn't know there were so many new books in the series that I hadn't heard of. I stopped reading after book 3, and re-read books 1 - 3 2 times, and in my 3rd re-read of the first 3 books I gave up in the middle of book 3. I don't know if I'll ever read beyond them, maybe. I thought book 1 was really good though.
It`s rather taken over the thread, hasn`t it.
For books getting worse :
Janet Evanovich`s Stephanie Plum series. I loved the first 10?12 ? but they`ve gone downhill. And even more downhiller.
I still bought one this year though ( book 20 ?), cos I enjoyed the series so much that I can`t let go.
-
Thank you for recommending Dorothy Richardson`s Pilgrimage this (?) year; I recently read the first three books and loved them.
-
Good Luck with your reading in 2017 !
I like your mysterious ` extra post for curious purposes `...
Hurray for Jasper Fforde and Kathy Reichs, two of my favourite authors.
