Another plus point about Hugh is that Steve used to get told he looked like his double when he was younger, they're not entirely dissimilar now.

I'm not surprised to hear that. I know he is only playing a character on the TV series House, but the character is so out-of-control-awful that I can't stand the actor on account of it! Sheesh.
The sarcasm in the book sounds as though it's reflective of his character on TV.
Oh no! I love Hugh Laurie and House, I think Hugh is brilliant especially when paired with Stephen Fry and his House character has made me laugh and cry. My only complaint would be that the medical story lines can be a little repetitive but I thought the personal journey that House made through the series was fantastic to watch.

Colds are the pits, I swear by taking an echinacea supplement at the first signs of a sniffle and then treat with Manuka honey and lemon.. definitely worth a try if you haven't already. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm sure I saw somewhere that he is in it..

Did someone say Human Traces??

Glad that you and Big Son liked it at least chaliepud.
Dreamt about it last night too so definitely stuck with me (unfortunately not including George Clooney though!)
Just finalised watching 'Flight' with eldest son (over 3 nights as not suitable for my 2 youngest). Thought it was very good although the ending was a little disappointing.

Is it...The Light Between Oceans?
That's it, you must have read it to get it on that clue?!

This was the 2012 Awards, but I do agree with you about those books, they were all excellent!

"*** unrolled the paper, to find it transformed. Little annotations had appeared all over it, together with coloured sketches and arrows. His first thought was that the map was Commonwealth property and that there would be hell to pay next inspection. New names had sprung up everywhere."
Any ideas?

Sorry, I'll try and do one in the morning.

I love the Muppet Christmas Carol!
Just got back from seeing Gravity in 3D, elder son (14) and myself really liked it, 8 year old son not so keen unfortunately so had to listen to "I'm bored" at frequent intervals!

I'd bet good money this is a Laurell K Hamilton Anita Blake book, one of the first 5 or 6 as I think I stopped then.. Will go with the first one, Guilty Pleasures?

Nice haul of books. The Stand is one of my faves. I can't remember if you have read it before?
I'm glad Jojo is sleeping through the night now; it was such a relief when Reuben began sleeping through. As cute as they are when they are puppies, it's so nice when they get older and settle into their routines (and calm down a bit as well!
).
No, I've not read it before but my Dad is a big Stephen King fan (I nearly wrote just King, but then thought you might think my Dad was a fan of the rather naff 80's band.
I will try and get to it soon but still in a bit of a reading slump so probably not the best time at present.
I am so happy that Jojo is sleeping through though it was a 6 O'clocker this morning as Obi went downstairs early (he sleeps by my bed) and I think he disturbed her.
We are hopefully having a private agility lesson this week, with a trainer that has ben recommended to me. I've been told that she can give me a good start into the sport and give me lots of things to work on until Jojo is old enough to start properly, we're very excited!
Great haul!!
Thanks, I just need to stop now!!
Is that right?
Lord!! Shouldn't I be out shopping or something?
Great book haul Hayley .. Happy Christmas to you indeed
Only 37 now!!! I prefer to think of it as 5 weeks, sounds more manageable. We still don't know if Steve will be home for the big day yet so I may need to have it all ready earlier!
You have no need to worry, you at least have your puddings done! I'll be making a chocolate pudding of sorts again I think and my Mum will bring a trifle.
My daughters Christmas list was handed over yesterday, it resembled one that I think a 21 year old would write (she is 12 going on 13). Mac lipstick.. really???
But there is a candyfloss machine in there thankfully, to prove she is still a kid of sorts.
Happy Christmas to you too Kay.

Finally got around to seeing Gravity in 3D. Awesome movie.
Hoping to take the kids to see it tomorrow afternoon, I've heard such good things about it!
-
Finished Edge of Always by J.A Redmerski, was ok, bit too samey and dull compared to Edge if Never. Can't decide what to start.. Might try Grave Sight by Charlaine Harris.
-
Have a great time frankie, just think, you'll be the only one with a clear head in the morning!
-
Happy Christmas to me!! Only 39 sleeps anyways!
My only problem is that I only allow myself one to be read shelf and I'm now having to double shelve which I don't like.. I would really like to read some of the books that have been there the longest, I will have to try and figure out on Goodreads which those are..

Oh dear, there appears to be a correlation between reading less and buying more!
I was doing well I thought but I seem to have added to the TBR rather which at a rough count is now up to the mid 50's.
Ohwell, I don't have any vices so who cares!
Here are my new additions -
Stephen King - The Stand and Needful Things
John Steinbeck - Cannery Row, East of Eden, Of Mice and Men, The Pearl and The Red Pony (a very reasonably priced set from The book People)
Pushing The Limits - Katie McGarry
The Husband's Secret - Liane Moriarty
Girl, Stolen - April Henry (for Decembers RNIB reading circle)
A Dog Named Christmas - Greg Kincaid (Thank you frankie!
)
Lost and Found - Jacqueline Sheehan (Thanks again frankie!
)
Daring To Dream - Nora Roberts
Marina - Carlos Ruiz Zafon
I think I will barely break even on my Goodreads challenge this years which is a little disappointing as I was 8 books ahead at one point, but I have in fact already this year read the same amount of pages that I read in the whole of 2012 so not so bad when I look at it that way. Jojo is sleeping better now in that she sleeps in till 630 every morning now so I need to get back in the habit of reading in bed, which means earlier nights, not sitting on the sofa catching up with my favourite TV shows after my eldest finally goes to bed!

An organic plum.

Lazy Toad in the Hole this evening! With mashed potato, lots of veggies and gravy with homemade cookies for the kids after, the rest of the cookies are for the Children In Need bake sale at youngest sons school tomorrow.

Light Horlicks - it's great when you feel cold, and as if a cold is coming on. You pour boiled water on the powder, enough said
I have Twinings Raspberry and Echinacea for that Marie.. but now I'm going to have some Cranberry and Blood Orange Tea, it tastes a little like Mulled Wine!

Come on now chaliepud, tell us what type of wine.
I was in Washington, DC yesterday and bought 21 bottles of some "nice" wine.
It was a Chilean Sauvignon Blanc, I'm not a wine buff and tend to stick to £5/6 wines, but I know what I like! I hope you enjoy yours and they don't prevent you losing those last few pounds!

Thanks Athena, pesky puppy has decided she prefers 6am these past 2 days, it has been a little colder so maybe I'll try a cosier fleece in her bed tonight.. and maybe try to go to bed a little earlier. That's the bit i'm not so good at as I like to read in bed!
I have a soothing voice I use for the dogs, when I use it on the kids they often get nervous though as it's usually be trying to hold my temper in!
Obi is just a bundle of nerves when he meets people, unfortunately he shows it by getting grumpy.. he is best ignored then sometimes he will come forth to greet, he can normally suss out a genuine person (especially if they are carrying treats
)
I've not tried rolling in fox wee or anything worse, I'm sure she wouldn't be at all offended and would probably try to roll on me!
I'm so glad I can't overdose on books, not that there is any danger of that, the speed I am reading at present hee hee!
I think I will read Of Mice and Men first of the Steinbecks, I read it as a teen and I'm hoping it will be as good now as it was then..
Maddie had a black biker jacket when she was 8 too and Robbie got his last year! Must be an 8 thing!
She was such a tomboy then but that all changed when she was 10 and especially when she went to secondary school. She is very sure about what she likes to wear, how her hair should be and her make up too.. When I was 12 I was wearing my brothers old clothes, not brushing my hair and thought lipstick was for writing notes to my Mum on the bathroom mirror. (Something she wasn't very happy about, don't know why!)
My Mum makes a luvverly trifle, no blancmange in sight like my mother in laws thankfully! I should take pictures.. I'll just need to add a strait jackets to my Christmas shopping list so i can keep my Dad away from it long enough.. Must be an Alan thing!
Right. I'd better get dressed before I have to take Robbie to school in my P'j's.. to cold for that this morning!
