Great haul :)! I'm glad to hear Jojo is sleeping through the night a bit better, I hope you get some more time to read and do other things (and sleep!). Merry Christmas in advance to you too!!

Thanks Athena, pesky puppy has decided she prefers 6am these past 2 days, it has been a little colder so maybe I'll try a cosier fleece in her bed tonight.. and maybe try to go to bed a little earlier. That's the bit i'm not so good at as I like to read in bed! :)

Oooh that would be great! :) I might be a bit scared though... You'd have to calm me down, use your soothing voice... Like a frankie whisperer... :D

That sounded odd to me... I thought surely a detached house of all houses is attached to other houses... And then it hit me. Attached vs detached! :D Although I do know the word detached... I just read it at attached  Thanks for clearing that up, I am now plenty wiser :)

He might not like me, but I would try and understand that and give him his space, even though I'm quite a big fan of his and would just love to cuddle up... But dogs are like people: you only know how they'll act and react when you meet them, and they are all individuals.

I have a feeling these ought to be great! :)

:D I wonder what she would make of you if you rolled in fox wee and then let her sniff you! Would she like that... A very odd smell replacing Mommy Hayley smell!

:D You can't overdose on books

Nice haul! I love the Steinbeck set... :) And I'm awful sorry for contributing to your massively growing TBR pile... :giggle:

I have a soothing voice I use for the dogs, when I use it on the kids they often get nervous though as it's usually be trying to hold my temper in! :D

Obi is just a bundle of nerves when he meets people, unfortunately he shows it by getting grumpy.. he is best ignored then sometimes he will come forth to greet, he can normally suss out a genuine person (especially if they are carrying treats :) )

I've not tried rolling in fox wee or anything worse, I'm sure she wouldn't be at all offended and would probably try to roll on me! :D

I'm so glad I can't overdose on books, not that there is any danger of that, the speed I am reading at present hee hee! :D I think I will read Of Mice and Men first of the Steinbecks, I read it as a teen and I'm hoping it will be as good now as it was then..

Yes .. 5 weeks sounds much less frightening .. and it's five weeks today ... :boogie: but tomorrow it will be four weeks :wibbly:

I hope he is able to be home Hayley

Kids .. what are they like?? My mum was telling me that one of the things my niece Daisy had put on her list was a biker jacket .. and she's 8!!! Golly where do they get it from? We just asked for an etch-a-sketch :giggle: I love that your daughter has stated exactly which lipstick she wants .. no leaving it to chance :D

I love a Christmas trifle .. I'm very envious

Maddie had a black biker jacket when she was 8 too and Robbie got his last year! Must be an 8 thing! :D She was such a tomboy then but that all changed when she was 10 and especially when she went to secondary school. She is very sure about what she likes to wear, how her hair should be and her make up too.. When I was 12 I was wearing my brothers old clothes, not brushing my hair and thought lipstick was for writing notes to my Mum on the bathroom mirror. (Something she wasn't very happy about, don't know why!) :giggle:

My Mum makes a luvverly trifle, no blancmange in sight like my mother in laws thankfully!  I should take pictures.. I'll just need to add a strait jackets to my Christmas shopping list so i can keep my Dad away from it long enough.. Must be an Alan thing!  :giggle2:

Right. I'd better get dressed before I have to take Robbie to school in my P'j's.. to cold for that this morning!  :cold:

  2. I'm not surprised to hear that. I know he is only playing a character on the TV series House, but the character is so out-of-control-awful that I can't stand the actor on account of it! Sheesh. :) The sarcasm in the book sounds as though it's reflective of his character on TV.

Oh no! I love Hugh Laurie and House, I think Hugh is brilliant especially when paired with Stephen Fry and his House character has made me laugh and cry. My only complaint would be that the medical story lines can be a little repetitive but I thought the personal journey that House made through the series was fantastic to watch. :)

  3. Glad that you and Big Son liked it at least chaliepud.

Dreamt about it last night too so definitely stuck with me (unfortunately not including George Clooney though!)

Just finalised watching 'Flight' with eldest son (over 3 nights as not suitable for my 2 youngest). Thought it was very good although the ending was a little disappointing.

  4. "*** unrolled the paper, to find it transformed. Little annotations had appeared all over it, together with coloured sketches and arrows. His first thought was that the map was Commonwealth property and that there would be hell to pay next inspection. New names had sprung up everywhere."

    Any ideas? :)

  5. Nice haul of books. The Stand is one of my faves. I can't remember if you have read it before?

I'm glad Jojo is sleeping through the night now; it was such a relief when Reuben began sleeping through. As cute as they are when they are puppies, it's so nice when they get older and settle into their routines (and calm down a bit as well! :D ).

No, I've not read it before but my Dad is a big Stephen King fan (I nearly wrote just King, but then thought you might think my Dad was a fan of the rather naff 80's band.  ;)  :giggle:  I will try and get to it soon but still in a bit of a reading slump so probably not the best time at present.

I am so happy that Jojo is sleeping through though it was a 6 O'clocker this morning as Obi went downstairs early (he sleeps by my bed) and I think he disturbed her. :(  We are hopefully having a private agility lesson this week, with a trainer that has ben recommended to me. I've been told that she can give me a good start into the sport and give me lots of things to work on until Jojo is old enough to start properly, we're very excited! :)

    Great haul!! :D

Thanks, I just need to stop now!!  :giggle2:

Is that right? :o Lord!! Shouldn't I be out shopping or something? :D

Great book haul Hayley .. Happy Christmas to you indeed

Only 37 now!!!  I prefer to think of it as 5 weeks, sounds more manageable.  We still don't know if Steve will be home for the big day yet so I may need to have it all ready earlier! :o  :o  :o  You have no need to worry, you at least have your puddings done! I'll be making a chocolate pudding of sorts again I think and my Mum will bring a trifle. :) My daughters Christmas list was handed over yesterday, it resembled one that I think a 21 year old would write (she is 12 going on 13).  Mac lipstick.. really???  :o  But there is a candyfloss machine in there thankfully, to prove she is still a kid of sorts.  :P

Happy Christmas to you too Kay.  :friends3:

      :csign:  :giggle2:  :giggle2:

  6. Happy Christmas to me!! Only 39 sleeps anyways! :o

My only problem is that I only allow myself one to be read shelf and I'm now having to double shelve which I don't like.. I would really like to read some of the books that have been there the longest, I will have to try and figure out on Goodreads which those are.. :)

  7. Oh dear, there appears to be a correlation between reading less and buying more! :(  I was doing well I thought but I seem to have added to the TBR rather which at a rough count is now up to the mid 50's.  :o Ohwell, I don't have any vices so who cares!  :giggle2:

Here are my new additions -

Stephen King - The Stand and Needful Things

John Steinbeck - Cannery Row, East of Eden, Of Mice and Men, The Pearl and The Red Pony (a very reasonably priced set from The book People)

Pushing The Limits - Katie McGarry

The Husband's Secret - Liane Moriarty

Girl, Stolen - April Henry (for Decembers RNIB reading circle)

A Dog Named Christmas - Greg Kincaid  (Thank you frankie!  :friends3: )

Lost and Found - Jacqueline Sheehan (Thanks again frankie!  :D )

Daring To Dream - Nora Roberts

    Marina - Carlos Ruiz Zafon

I think I will barely break even on my Goodreads challenge this years which is a little disappointing as I was 8 books ahead at one point, but I have in fact already this year read the same amount of pages that I read in the whole of 2012 so not so bad when I look at it that way.  Jojo is sleeping better now in that she sleeps in till 630 every morning now so I need to get back in the habit of reading in bed, which means earlier nights, not sitting on the sofa catching up with my favourite TV shows after my eldest finally goes to bed!

  8. Come on now chaliepud, tell us what type of wine. :)

I was in Washington, DC yesterday and bought 21 bottles of some "nice" wine.

It was a Chilean Sauvignon Blanc, I'm not a wine buff and tend to stick to £5/6 wines, but I know what I like!  I hope you enjoy yours and they don't prevent you losing those last few pounds! :)
