  1. I went yesterday to watch "The woman in black" (alone, with less than 6 peoples in the cinema, it was pretty scary xD). I liked it, but the end was disapointing (maybe because I watch it in Spanish and didn't understood one detail that explain it). Did the movie respect the book's story ?
  2. You're welcome, it was a good exercise x) And I'm actually reading a book (A discovery of Witch) who make me want to study old books, his library attract me even more now ><
  3. Yes it is, it's one volume of "Etymologiae" by Isidore of Seville And for the curious, here a more detailed translation : At first (from 0:30 to 0.50) to they are talking about is book : "The Prague cemetary" and how he's mixing reality and fiction. Around 0.55 the journalist ask : "Do you know exactly where are every books of your library" and Umberto Eco answer "Yes, yes I do" (I don't know how he does though xD. He have so many books) Then they talk about the expensive old book (Etymologie d'Isidore). Umberto said that the book is wonderfull because the paper is a very good quality, that it seems that it was print a few day ago and that it seems totally manuscript/handwritting (I don't know why he first said "print" then "manuscript" xD). Then he say he found it in Paris, and took three years to paid it. After, he's talking about another book which is "the world's most beautifull book" for the paper quality, the drawing inside...(Le songe de Polophile) And the book is very expensive because everybody want it. It was printed in Venise in the end of the 15 century (around 1499). After, when Umberto Eco is in his chair, they are talking about how many books he has (30 000 books in there, and 50 000 altogether). Then, about how false documents are use to make and falsify history and he give fiews exemples ("La Donation de constantin", "La lettre du prêtre Jean" The Priest Jean Letter's, The syrian report to Bush about nuclear weapon in Irak...). Some drive to good things (The Priest Jean Letter's), and others to bad things (The Syrian report). Then in the end, he is talking about his book : "The Prague Cemetary"
  4. I was talking about the books serie (can you only use "serie" for TV Show ?). And like you I prefer the books. And... I've just finished 11th books, and I loved it <3 I can't wait to read the next book of the series ! It's the last one isn't it ? EDIT : This is the summary for the 12th book :
  5. Well I've ordered the books (in french) just after I finished the first season of the TV Show. And though they are very differents, I love them both <3 (with a little preference for the books). I really enjoyed this serie, and I'm huge fan of Eric ♥o♥ and I can't stand Bill at all (in the TV show and the books). But like Kirsty_S, I've been less into the last ones of the séries, I found them less captivating than the first ones. My absolute favorites are the 4th, 5 and 6th of the serie (Dead to the World, Dead As a Dormail and Definitely Dead). I've just receive the last book published in French, Dead in the Family !! So I'm going to pretend to be ill and very contagious, lock myself in my room, and neither drink or eat until I've finished it *o* (Well maybe I wont do THAT much, but I'll will surely use every opportunity to go back reading xD)
  6. Oh yes I do ! I'm living about one hours away from there ! We are very close x)
  7. Where have you been in France ?
  8. Whoaaaa >< I wish I could live there *o* When the journalist ask him he said that he has 30 000 books in there, and 50 000 altogether !!!! But during 3/4 of the interview he is talking about old books. For exemple, the first book he show, the big one, was so expensive that it took him three year to paid it o_o. So I think most of his books are collection one, but still, this is a very nice library
  9. Yes I think she does <3
  10. Ok, you win me over. I'm going to read them in English o/ (Ok... Maybe I wanted to be be convinced )
  11. Taïr

    Your Age?

Lucky you, growing younger instead of older x)
@Ben : Thank you <3 (Maybe I should translate my French, but I'm feeling lazy to do so xD)

  14. Taïr

    Your Age?

    Well I'm 22, but I'll turn 23 in May x)
  15. Whoa o/ There is a lot of different country x) Well me, I'm from France =D
  16. OMG I really like the summmary, and with all your review it just popped up on the top on my TBR list. The trailer give me the chickens dots >< (Yeaah, I'm easly scared, but keep watching scary stuff). The only thing is I usually prefer watching the movie before reading the book, because I'm always disapointed in adaptation if I read the book first ><. But I've read that the author herself enjoyed a lot the movie so maybe I can try read the book first this time
  17. Guy Gavriel Kay is one of my favorite author. He is one of that few author I like everythings about, the plot, personage, writting, storie... The first book I've read was "The Lions of Al-Rassan" which is also my favorite one. So far I've read (in order of preference) : The Lions of Al-Rassan The Sarantine Mosaic The Last Light of the Sun Tigana The Fionavar Tapestry I've enjoyed each one, though the Fionavar Tapestry is the most different one from all is book (maybe because that's the first). I'm still looking for Ysabel and A Song for Arbonne, because in France the editions are sold out T_T, did you enjoy Isabel and A Song for Arbonne as much as the others ? I'm considering reading them in English (But I'm a little bit afraid it's to much for me ><). I'm going re-read the The Lions of Al-Rassan <3
  18. Bonjour Timmo et merci beaucoup pour ton accueil. Ça fait plaisir <3. Pour l'instant je découvre encore le forum, mais tout le monde est très gentils, et je doit dire que beaucoup de sujets m’intéressent o/
  19. I only bought them one at the time. The main raison is that, if I don't like the serie, I don't "waste" to much money. But it's as well because, when I go to my bookstore I try (very very hard) not to bought all the books. So I put a limit : no more than three books each time. And since I always have so much books I want to buy, I end up buying very different books. Plus, like some other said, I need a break between two books of the same serie anyway and I don't mind waiting. The only saga I had trouble with was the wheel of the time, because there is so much characters and plots that I always forgot everything when the next one is out (and I feel lazy reading again all those big books, luckily the french official web site have very good summaries xD)
  20. Thanks for your nice welcome <3 @Poppyshake&Julie : Well I usually sing in my shower, maybe that's the reason =D. But if the three of us make a chorus, we might help the drought's country xD. (And I use to sing lullabies and disney's songs to my little sister, like you did Julie. But the strange thing is that she's still enjoying it now (though she is the only one doing so). She is 5 now, her favorite one is "Part of that world".) I laughed a lot x)
  21. Thanks <3 @Frankie : Ok I'll wait until then =D @Roland : I've spend eight month as Au Pair in England (Sutton, London) and 7 years of English classes before that in France. But I know I still make a lot of mistakes, but I'm improving o/
  22. Hi there ! I'm Lucille, a twenty two years old french bookworm o/. Name : Lucille/Taïr I love : Reading, talking (I'm very, very, talkative), travelling and cooking. Favorites : Author : Guy Gavriel Kay, Jack Vance, Terry Pratchett, Diana Whyne Jones, Barbara Hambly, Kendare Blake, Hervé Jubert, Cinda Williams Chima, Jasper Fford... And a lots more Books : The one wrote by the authors above, the Jane True serie (currently reading), Daughter of the forest and, again, a lots more I can't remember right now. Music : Pop, Rock, French Music, Musical (Billy Elliot, Wicked...), Opéras <3, the Walt Disney songs (And yes, I do sing them, that's why it's rain so much in Normandy... Maybe I should explain : In France, when someone sings very badly, we use to say that brings the rain) Series : Lie to Me, Kamelott (a French one), The Big Bang Theory, Deadwood... Genre : Fantasy, Fairy tale, Paranormal (I love Gosth stories), historical & romance Why this forum : Fantasy, Fairy tale, Paranormal (I love Ghost stories), historical & romance Why this forum : Well, I've always been reading a lot, but recently I begin to read in English. So I was looking for an English forum about books, and you were the most welcoming one. Plus, the French Forum (about Manga&Drama) I'm on have the exact same theme (invision power board) as this one so I wont be lost Other : Like I've said, I'm French, so I will probably do a lots of misspelling and mistake, please forgive me for those, and tell me if they are to obvious (I have to learn). Well, I guess I've said everything, I hope my English is'nt to bad >< One last thing : Can I post (here and on my signature) the link to my Goodread profile ?
