Have you guys read King's short story of Shawshank? The two films that started out as short stories from that book (Shawshank and Stand By Me aka The Body) are both instances where the films are superior to the books. IMO anyway, and that never happens! Although they're only superior because they elaborate, the stories themselves are still excellent

See, now I'm obviously not as clever as you Mr. Mac, because that 'counts' just flew right by me! I've seen that movie, Kylie, and that scene's hilarious! Poor Alexandre... Hee!

I finished Uglies last night and started The Ruins by Scott Smith right before bed. It was a spontaneous read that two of my friends plus one of their moms highly recommended to me, so I thought I'd squeeze it in before the book ring book arrives It's supposedly very fast moving and suspenseful so I'm looking forward to it! -
Nice mullet, Mac! I like the stars visual, heh. CW, I'm truly scared of that Tash!
-
Just finished watching The Gates, and am now trying to catch some local news and weather before bed.

You guys are hilarious! Plus I'm down with off-topic-ness, dude Man, now you've got me pondering how to use the word 'climax' in a sentence, CW, shame on you! Plus you had to go and add 'big' before it .

Wonderful news on the book ring book, Charm! Thankies I'm PMing you my address right now. Oh my, 840 pages?! Is this the newest Anita Blake book or somewhere else in the series? That's huge! I hope you enjoy it Thanks Weave, I'm so glad I read the Ness book! There needs to be more out there like that

Giotto's Hand!! Woo Mac! Excellent purchase my friend Forgive me, but have you read the Jonathan Argyle series before? I can't remember, shame on me. Pears is clearly the MAN! -
Hope you had a good time at your party, Frankie!! All the bands on this thread are bringing back SO many memories for me! Although the fashion was very painful, and I can just see you in your Hammer pants . You'll have to try and post photos! I was a big fan of neon colors at the time, and I also wore a lot of leg warmers (ugh, I'm so disappointed in myself). I was 17 at the end of the 80's decade so I saw a lot of stuff come and go! I loved some of the music though .

Oh man, I'm so behind in updating this thread! Since last posted, I've started and finished the following... Topics About Which I Know Nothing by Patrick Ness - Thank you again Weave for sending me this one! I laughed out loud repeatedly and am greatful to find a book of short stories like this. I'd love to read more but I can never seem to find just the right thing. Thankfully Mr. Ness fit the bill with his hilarity! I especially loved one of the stories called 'Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes?' which is about dictionary writers and the new custodian they hire. These poor men all sitting around keeping watch over all the world's languages and the situations they get stuck in, it was great! Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K Hamilton - Another great start to a vampire series in which I will no doubt be sucked into! I don't know whether to laugh or cry about that . Thanks to Charm and CW for recommending it (and anyone else I'm forgetting) and I can't wait to read the next installment. I really liked the heroine, Anita, and honestly could not put the book down. It was a great one to take with me up north where I could read for hours on end if I wanted! In the Shadow of Gotham by Stefanie Pintoff - This one was excellent and reminded me a lot of Caleb Carr's 'The Alienist.' It was set in 1905 upstate New York and also in New York City, and was about a brutal murder and the police and Columbia professors who try to solve the crime. I found it very interesting because it was right during the time when criminolgists first started to profile serial killers, and they were making all kinds of exciting discoveries in the world of crime-solving. The ending was just slightly anti-climactic, but I still enjoyed the read and will look for more from this author.

I'm jealous too, Mexicola, and SO glad you're loving the Count! I hope you take lots of photos on your trip! Do you think you'll finish the book before you go?

Had dinner out tonight and we just did a bunch of appetizers since we couldn't decide what to get . Some really good kettle chips and dip, buffalo chicken wings and wonton tacos. Somehow I think I'll be regretting it tomorrow! I had a yummy raspberry margarita to drink along with it too. Delish!

*Sigh* I'm just going to have to add all these books to my wish list, okay? They sound great, and such good reviews too Weave!

My friend gave me No Humans Involved by Kelley Armstrong when I saw her tonight. I'm not up to this one yet in the series, but I thought it was a good idea to add it to my stack anyway! I'm also up to page 88 in Uglies and am enjoying it. You can definitely tell it was written for a younger audience, but it's a very intriguing story and one I don't like to put down -
Welcome to BCF, Stormi! Glad you joined us Do you have any fave authors?

Welcome to the club, Bookworm! How weird though that the CW decided to only air certain episodes - that doesn't make any sense! Have you heard when the DVDs are being released? The new episodes start here in the US on 9 Sep and I'm super excited!

I read The Crucible in school and remember really liking it. I also never read An Inspector Calls but I did see the stage production and I loved it! Couldn't get enough
