I read Of Mice and Men which was simply brilliant, also read Sharpe's Gold, the second Sharpe book he wrote but the 9th in the series so far and one of the best. Been reading more of Arthur C. Clarke's short stories which are fascinating, especially given they were written long before space travel. Now starting the 3rd Belgariad book, Magician's Gambit by David Eddings.

I'd loved the first book and went through it in no time at all, hope you enjoy it

Hasn't started yet.. must be later. Queen of Sorcery by David Eddings Synopsis The quest for the Orb of Aldur continues and the farm boy Garion discovers more of his origins and powers. Review The second book of the Belgariad continued right were the first one left off, but this time it is bigger and better. More characters, more adventures, more danger and more fun then the first. The structure is similar, previous questions are answered and new ones are asked. A thoroughly enjoyable read that just flew by. Fully engrossed into the series now, I only hope the quality remains high. Overall 9/10 -
Nearly finished the second Balgariad book, really enjoying the series so far, just keeps getting better. Also downloaded my first audiobook, 11.22.63 for free from audible.

It is a very strange series and very typical King, if you stick with it you will be rewarded.

I finished The Green Mile. Absolutely amazing book, possibly the best I have ever read and certainly the most moving. Highly recommend it. Going to start the second Belgariad book now. Also bought Of Mice and Men and The Princess Bride.

I enjoyed most of the series but felt it went a bit downhill after number 4. Has anyone read the latest addition?

Pawn of Prophecy - David Eddings Synopsis Long ago, the evil God Torak fought a war to obtain an object of immense power - the Orb of Aldur. But Torak was defeated and the Orb reclaimed by Belgarath the sorcerer. Garion, a young farm lad, loves the story when he first hears it from the old storyteller. But it has nothing to do with him. Or does it? For the stories also tell of a prophecy that must be fulfilled - a destiny handed down through the generations. And Torak is stirring again . . . Review The start of a traditional fantasy series that I should have read in my childhood but never mind, I get to enjoy it now. It's an old story, a farm boy discovers there is more to world than he could imagine, and begins his quest to save the world. I really enjoyed this, nice to have a fantasy series with small instalments that move at a nice pace. The characterisation is splendid and we are slowly introduced to the magical world. It left me wanting to move straight onto the next book to discover more. I will force myself to have a short break before the next one though. Not sure what yet though. -
Finished the first book of The Belgariad: Pawn of Prophecy. Nothing challenging but very enjoyable.

saw 1911 Revolution, a Chinese film made last year to commemorate the centenary. It is also Jackie Chan's 100th film.

Think I have had a couple of books nicked The lousy postman tends to leave a bundle of packages on top of the letter box which is downstairs at the bottom of my apartment block and the door is never locked so anyone walking past can walk in and pick them up. Normally I am home when expecting them but last week I was in Dublin for a few days and was expecting them at some point that during the week but when I got home done were there. Thought maybe they were late but none of them have arrived, yet ones I have ordered since have come. It was my first Adam Nevill book which I was really looking forward to reading as well as Animal Farm. An X-box game as well but that doesn't matter compare to the books! It takes a low sort of person to steal someone else's mail.

Fictional Villains We Love to Hate
Timstar replied to Wilde Lily's topic in General Book Discussions
My first thought was the clown/monster from IT by Stephen King... but not really sure if that counts as a villain. I also thought of Obadiah Hakeswill from the Sharpe series, such an evil character that you just love to hate. Most of my classic literature is on my TBR pile so I can't make suggestions from them but I am sure there are tonnes. -

Saw 50/50 with Joseph Gordon Levitt and Seth Rogen. Very moving film about a guy coping with cancer. Rogen plays the same character as always but Levitt really shines in this film. Liking him more and more.
