  1. Thanks Michelle! I snapped up The Others by Herbert when it was 20p the other day as well but surely this Ash at this price must be a mistake?. Also saw the 'Rats' trilogy is 99p ea.
  2. Have a great time Chrissy! I am finally moving to Cambridge on Tuesday! and only a day after I start my new job there... bloody letting agents are so slow. We are both excited though.
  3. Some of them can but most of the don't unfortunately. Fight Club was a brilliant book made into a brilliant film that was so unique in style that it became its own thing, did justice to the book whilst being separate from it as well. The Green Mile also did the book justice by capturing the raw emotion and magic of John Coffey. Also everyone should see The Princess Bride! fantastic film, can't comment on the book as it is still in my TBR pile.
  4. Has anyone else seen this on Google? A fun take of the six degrees of separation. Simply type in an actor/actresses name followed by 'bacon number' to see how they are linked through films/actors/actresses. It is quite difficult to find any above 2 to be honest but I got James Dean which was a three but can't find any higher. Have a go!
  5. New book in this series coming out soon, 1356, Cornwell is doing a talk and signing and I just got my ticket! http://www.waterstones.com/waterstonesweb/displayDetailEvent.do?searchType=1&author=Bernard|Cornwell Can't wait
  6. Gave up on The Killing Floor by Lee Child, very boring for a thriller. No intelligent plot line and poor characterisation. Also on the verge of giving up on The Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs. John Carter is a wooden, 2d character.
  7. I am enjoying the series so far, massive improvement over the terrible series 6 which nearly put me off watching any more, which for a life-long Dr Who fan is saying something. I like the single episodes as oppose to the overall story-arc, but the best was when they combined both as in the first few series. I also like the Amy and Rory dynamic but wish they would make up their mind with what their doing with their stories, however it is a refreshing break to the awkward sexual tension with the female companion. The first episode was surprisingly good for a series opener and the second I thought was a bit of a missed opportunity due to the lack of the story being centred around dinosaurs. Although the ending was great! Looking forward to the gunslinging Doctor on Saturday.
  8. The Grey. It was ok, some good moments but a lot of slow ones as well.
  9. That's the one, she was rather nice...
  10. Finally got the first season from Lovefilm! Just finished the first episode and thought it was great. Fillion's character is brilliant and has a great dynamic with what's-her-name. Can't wait to watch some more.
  11. Too right. On a related note, Letting agents are also scum.
  12. I'd rather he took his time and got them right then caving to pressure from fans and publishers and rush the last few. That is what happened with King's Dark Tower and I was very disappointed. Also means I can take my time reading them
  13. Sorry to hear that! Hope you're doing ok
  14. Watched Clone, a bizarre and some what controversial film with Matt Smith and Eva Green. It was ok but frustratingly slow.
  15. Thanks! yeah things are moving very fast for us both at the moment, Kate got a job in the Fitzwilliam Museum, exactly where she wanted
  16. After much stress and many trips to Cambridge we have finally found a nice flat to live in! Not cheap but nice and spacious and in a great location. So relieved.
  17. Just finished Dearly Devoted Dexter, really enjoyed it! better than the first. Definitely gonna keep reading
  18. Went back to my Mum's for a few days and didn't bring A Clash of Kings so I found Dearly Devoted Dexter which I have almost finished.
  19. Wow there really isn't much you can say is there! I do love Clarke and glad you enjoyed it too. This and Rendezvous with Rama are the next Clarke's on my list.
  20. You're not missing a lot, it certainly wasn't as brilliant as The Forever War, but I don't think that tarnished it as they are quite different.
  21. V for Vendetta is one my all time favourites! Think it is very under-rated by most. Social Network is brilliant and i've not seen Yes Man.
  22. Had an interview just after my wedding over a month ago now, I didn't get that job but they said I was perfect except lacking one bit of experience handling DNA that another candidate had, then they told me that there is another vacancy coming soon and I would be perfect for it as it is exactly the same but without handling DNA. But because it is a government funded research facility they have to go through the bureaucracy of posting the vacancy and interviewing any suitable candidates. So after an agonisingly long wait I was finally offered the job today It is in Cambridge were I really want to be, not quite the dream job but not a bad start straight out of uni in this economy. Really pleased! now I can support of wife and everything... she is also happy .
  23. Forever Free by Joe Haldeman Synopsis. The Forever War is over. But by the time William Mandela returns from his final conflict, Man has moved on. After setting up a new colony away from, the now foreign, Earth, the veterans find this existence harder then fighting in the war and longing for adventure and travel they decide not to put up with it. Review The Forever War was an amazing achievement, probably a book that didn't need a sequel, certainly not 25 years later, but I'm still glad there is one. As a bit of background, the technology used in The Forever War involves time warping and 'time dilation' which means when they travel in space, which they do a lot, centuries can pass in a matter of hours. Which means the main character is 54 years old but born 1100 years ago. With The Forever War over, the human race has melded into one single conciousness, simple known as Man, but have retained there individual physical forms. This means that one human can speak for the entire race as they have already agreed upon what to say. But it gets more confusing as each individual refers to the entire race in the first person singular, 'I'. Although just a small aspect of the book, it is certainly a brilliant concept. Although the pacing is quite slow it seems to work for this particularly story, giving the reader the impression of how much life has slowed down for the veterans. It also takes some very surprising turns in the story. At it's short length, it almost works as an epilogue to The Forever War but with a story in its own right. Recommended for The Forever War fans. Overall 6/10
  24. Got a job offer in Cambridge!

  25. Finished Forever Free by Joe Haldeman which was good but not as good as The Forever War. Now starting A Clash of Kings by G.R.R. Martin.
