  1. 'Grease'. I love musicals and this is my favourite, I can't help singing a long to it
  2. I think it's a very good book, but I will be interested in hearing your thoughts on this. I can't wait until I finally get the third book. I have wanted to order it for a few weeks now, but I have held off, because my mum wants to order some things off Amazon too, so I thought we could order together. I wish would hurry up and make up her mind!
  3. I will let you know how 'Games Of Thrones' turns out. I read 'The Shining' years ago and it's a very good book (I prefer the film though).
  4. I've finally given up on 'Don Quixote' by Cervantes. At first I thought that I would really enjoy this, but as time went on I found it increasingly more rambling and couldn't hold my attention. This is the third novel I have abandoned this year, I don't know why I'm losing my attnetion for books at the moment! Anyway now Im going to try 'Game of Thrones' by George R.R Martin. I have watched a few episodes of the tv series and I really enjoyed it. So fingers crossed I can actually finish this one.
  5. I'm now a Spanish library card holder! :-)

no, it's just for the library. It's only good for books and dvds!

  6. Yes, it was a bit silly, but with 'Dr Who' you have to leave all logic behind and just enjoy the fun
  7. I've just finished watching this week's episode and it was my favourite so far in this series. However, I did think that it was concluded a bit too abruptly. Can't wait for the return of 'The Weeping Angels' next week. The episode 'Blink' in Series 3 is probably in my top 5 episodes, so I'm looking forward to seeing this.
  8. Dermot O'Leary? Well he has already proved himself on the dancing front, with his wonderful display of 'dad dancing' on 'The XFactor', so he might be up for the job!
  9. I've just finished watching 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel'. I've seen it before, but I still enjoyed it. It's refreshing to see a film which relies on plot, rather than explosions and special effects.
  10. Is the bottom picture the wrapping paper? If so, that's so cool! I would frame it, it's that nice. Also the title 'How To Keep Your Volkswagon Alive' makes me smile.
  11. I think Anton Du Beke would be the obvious choice for replacement presenter, but I do find him a little smug sometimes and he could get annoying.
  12. is wondering how to go about getting a member's thread? Am I interesting enough to warrant one......not sure

  13. For the last few months, I've been looking at the new library across the road and been tempted to join. The only thing that's put me off is that it's a Spanish library and although my Spanish is pretty good, I wondered if I would be able to read books in it. However this morning, I built up the courage to go inside and I'm half way to joining. It looks really modern and there are a lot of DVDs to borrow as well as books. I just have to wait until Tuesday to pick up my library card and then I can borrow books!
  14. I love this book I hope you enjoy it too
  15. I have several of her novels on my tablet, waiting to be read. I just haven't got around to it. As for 'Don Quixote' at first I enjoyed the humour, but now I'm not sure if it's turning slightly ridiculous.....
  16. I saw the film first, then read the book. Maybe this had an effect on my opinions of the book. After all, if you have read a book first and then the film adaptation, it's never quite a good IMO.
  17. I know when I was at Uni we had to read a book every week, but nothing as thick and substantial as 'Crime and Punishment'. I agree, I'm not sure what information your teacher is hoping you absorb, if you have to read at such a pace. The best you can hope for with such a novel is skim reading and unless you have some sort of photographic memory, that would be no help whatsoever.
  18. With 'Don Quixote' so far, I'm finding it isn't has heavy going as I thought actually. It's quite humourous which is surprising. Although it could border on ridiculous, but we'll see... As for Jane Austen, I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't read any of her novels yet. I've seen plenty of BBC adaptations of her novels, but never really got around to reading any of the texts.
  19. I must admit that I have had the tendency to shy away from challenging books, but after reading 'The Elegance of the Hedgehog', I think I might try a few more books that are not just easy reads. I've started with 'Don Quixote' by Cervantes, a novel that I have had for months but I have been too intimidated to read. It's good so far......
  20. I'm struggling to regain my reading mojo at the moment too. I love how you illustrate your reading through monthly photo montages, such a cool idea!
  21. Great review! I read this a while ago and found that, although enjoyable, I prefer the film version of this book. The film is a little different from the book but I found it to have more energy than the book. I also found some of the vocabulary a little odd. I can't think of an example at the moment, but the author uses words that wouldn't have been used at time the novel is set.
  22. You had to read this in a week!? That's impossible surely?
  23. I would have also said that Chris Evans was a bit arrogant, so it's surprising to say that his book isn't like that. This might have to be added to my TBR list.
  24. 'The Elegance of the Hedgehog' by Muriel Barbery Publisher: Gallic Books ISBN: 978-1-906040-1-85 Length: 320 Pages Opening Line: ' "Marx has completely changed the way I view the world," declared the Pallieres boy this morning, although ordinarily he says nary a word to me.' Review: It's not often that I re-read books, there are so many new books that I want to read that I have the time. However when the BCF book group decided to choose 'The Elegance of the Hedgehog' as one of their reads, I decided to see if I would enjoy this, second time around. I must admit, that I found this book difficult to get into at first. I found it quite odd that a grown woman felt the need to hide her enjoyment of philosophy, culture and art, although as I read on, I could understand why. The writing style within this novel is excellent. It's intelligent, but also conveys warmth and charm that is a pleasure to read. I also found the way in which the story was told from two main character interesting. However I felt that Paloma, the twelve year old neighbour of Renee, the building's concierge, more likeable. In general I did enjoy this book, but found some of the complex ideas and theologies that were put across in this novel, rather hard to get my head around. In it's favour however, it's a refreshing change to be challenged by a fiction novel. Is this worth a read? If you want to read something that is both challenging but entertaining, then read this book.
