  1. I really loved this book and I can't wait for the sequel. I thought she handled the hisory part really well, it was interesting not boring, and it was nice to see Oxford through her eyes. I loved the characters and the different supernatural races.
  2. For me, it's Sophie Kinsella, Jill Mansell, Melissa Nathan and Jane Costello. Chick lit is my not so guilty pleasure. I find them light hearted, funny, and I want to know where I can find men like the heros!!! And Although not quite chick lit, but I feel it deserves a mention are the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich, they are laugh out loud funny and have 2 very very sexy leading men. And out of all the books I've read, the one character I would really like to be is Stephanie Plum And I've noticed, I can't spell!
  3. I love Jill Mansel and Rumour has it was the first of her books that I have read. I have since raided my local library for other Jill Mansel books. I like the almost fairy tale endings to them and I love the fact that she manages to combine sub plots into the story as well, do although you know how the books are going to end, there is also something to keep you guessing slightly
  4. I didn't really like the shopaholic books, I don't know what it was about them, but, I felt they lacked something. I loved Can you keep a secret, I laughed the whole way through the book and had to keep reading out the funny parts so people knew why I was in hysterics. I also really liked Undomestic Goddess, Remember me, and Twenties Girl, I think I just prefer the books without Becky bloomwood

    Hello

I don't think my house is big enough! I'm already trying to negotiate getting my boxes of books from the attic. Has not helped that the 3 bookcases I bought have been filled and I still need more!!!
  6. I always tried to read them with an open mind, but the only one I can say I enjoyed was Beowulf. I loved it! For me the book that I have to say I loathe because it was forced on me was One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, I blame the supply teacher we had, I think we spent over a week on just the first page! I have found some authors that I would't have read if they hadn't been recommended to me, so I try to see it as recommedations other than forced on me
  7. If I was to look at my book cases, I'd say I have more american authors than british, however I also have books by authors who are actually Irish and English but their books take place in America, I think they may live in America now. Having said I have more American Authors than British, that's not because I think the American books are better, just that the story appealed to me. A couple of my favorite authors are Terry Pratchett and Sophie Kinsella and they are both British. And I agree with the point that both have good and bad authors. Also I've noticed the influx of Swedish authors and they seem to be popular.
  8. I tend to read with my own accent, but only when its description, when it comes to dialog, the characters all have their own voice and I tend to read it in the accent of the country, which are probably the wrong accents.
  9. I'm 34 and proud of it
  10. I was born in Scotland, lived here most of my life, lived in Oxfordshire in England for nearly 2 years, it was a lovely place but I just got too homesick, and I missed the sea ( I was born in a seaside town) so I moved back to Scotland in 2006.

    Hello

thanks for the welcome Dawn, I look forward to being introduced to new books, I don't think my "to read" pile is big enough at the moment
  12. Your fairy is Hazel Icewand She protects the vulnerable and brings justice to the wronged. She lives in places hexed and tainted by black magic. She is only seen when the seer holds a four-leafed clover. She wears black feathers and rose petals and has icy blue butterfly wings. Black feathers with icy blue butterfly wings? Yeah that sounds like me
  13. Chalet Girl, I was in the mood for a chick flick and I really liked it. Last film I saw at the cinema was Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. I went because my boyfriend wanted to see it, and he has gone to see an awful lot of films just because I wanted to see them, so I felt it was time to reciprocate and I actually really enjoyed it.
  14. I have to admit, this series of the X factor has left me a bit cold. Ignoring the fact that I never buy anything the winner records anyway (ok not quite true, I em bought the Alexandra Burke album), There was no one who really stood out for me, but if I had to pick anyone, I like Janet and Misha. I just hope the winner gets an original song for their first single, I still haven't gotten over Matt Cardle murdering Many of Horror last year
  15. I'm listening to the new Evanesence album, I'm gutted I couldnt get tickets to see them in November

    Hello

Hi, Just thought I'd introduce myself, and I hope you will all bear with me, because I'm shy (yes even on a computer) and I'm not very good at this. *Takes a deep breath* OK, my name is Kirsten but most people call me many variations of this, the most common being Kirsty. I'm 34 years old, and I am from Scotland. I love to read and will read almost anything but I can be most commonly found in the crime or fantasy section of the bookshop. I would say some of my favorite authors include: John Connolly, Janet Evanovich, Terry Ptatchett, Raymond E Feist, Michael Connelly. I could go on but I fear I will bore you silly. I also like to listen to music and again almost anything, but I'm a rock chick at heart, favorites include 3 Doors Down, Seether, Guns 'n Roses, bon Jovi, Biffy Clyro. I also like bubble gum pop but shhh that's my guilty pleasure. I think that should do for now, I thank you for your patience in reading this, and if there is anything else you would like to know, just ask
