Kate & Pixie I hope you guys will enjoy the book if you try it . It's very low priced for Kindle, so really wouldn't be major bucks if you don't like it . The reviews are strange. All over the place ,but I thought I was very good .
  2. Kate Yes, I forgot that you guys use Parishes instead of counties ! I understand where your husband is coming from. I'm not much into cycling myself, but my husband likes it . Too bad we don't live close, you could go on a bike ride wth him. He'd love the company !

The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair - Joel Dicker 5/5 A very impressive book by a young 30 year old from France, who chooses to set his book in a small town in New Hampshire . It's a mystery within a mystery, as it starts with a young writer who has just written his first big hit, then becomes unable to get an idea for his second book. He contacts his old teacher from college, who gives him a small piece of information which turns into an obsession with this boy to write the story ,and solve a mystery from 30 -some years previously. A wonderfully told story. I'm excited to see what this young guy comes up with next !

Thanks, guys , I'm really lucky my Dr is as good as he is . He is very nitpicky about the care his patients get . I knew them therapists were being too rough . I've had the other knee done. Therapy hurt then, but nothing like this time ! ( I went to our local hospital last time, but they closed down so I had to choose someplace else . ) Anyhow, all seems to be progressing well otherwise. My knee is bending and straightening well , considering it was only 2 weeks ago today I had it done .Looking forward to walking without a cane and being able to drive in a few more weeks .
  5. Sounds like you got a nice new stack of books to read. The good thing about YOU buying books is that you read them so fast, you can keep up with the buying somewhat . I have books on my Kindle I bought 3 or 4 years ago and still haven't opened . I'm too slow a reader to keep up with my buying. I have cut way back o nthe number I buy with the job situation being as it was and lots of bills that need paid now, but once in awhile I still get the urge to buy books and slip a few into my kindle . I think most people buy things at times when their life is stressed . Helps to make them feel better, or like people that eat to alleviate stress . I do some of that too ! Especially CAKE .
  6. Bike riding has become pretty popular here lately. They have built a really nice bike trail that goes along our old train tracks through town, and right by one of our little restaurants in town which was the old train depot and has all old pics of the town and trains ,stories of our town ,etc . It's a really neat little place. Here's the article about the bike trail : http://waynecountytrails.org/ I'm like you, Kate, haven't read a bike in MANY years, but the Hubster rides and has been on the trail with the grandkids before .

Had my Dr apt on Thursday. He said my leg is bending well and that I'd have at least 3 more weeks of therapy ,then if I'm doing ok, I won't have to go any more. He also told me I can start practicing with my cane already ,so I can get rid of my walker by this coming week ! He called my therapy office and chewed them out for being so rough. He said they were way too aggressive and were doing week 3 exercises on week one . I have black & blue handprints on my legs where they were pushing and bending it so much . Looking forward to walking with my cane this week. I'm already practicing with it this weekend .

Thanks Pixie It was rough . They work you really hard. I came home sick , took some pain pills and went to bed . I'm trying to do as many exercises here at home as possible so it's loosened up when I get there . Not fun . I'll be glad when it's over .

Thanks ,folks I had the testing done the week before surgery, so I had that on my mind too, but it's ok , so relieved to know that . I kept hoping it'd be ok or I'd have to get other stuff done after my knee ,and I believe I have enough right now . Going to therapy class 2 tonight. Sure hoping I do better than the first one !

Thanks Pixie , things are getting a bit better each day , It's ok, Chrissie , no worries. Just got the Cancer screening back. 2 years and no Cancer ,so that was great news ! I'm managing ok with the meds now and each day getting a bit better . The first few were the roughest .

Chrissy The Thyroid Dr said specifically to take it first thing in the morning since I have no thyroid at all now ,and to drink plenty of water with it but no food for an hour so it can absorb into the system faster I guess . So mornings right now are painful for about 2 hours til I get the thyroid ,then eat an hour later and by the time the pain meds work . I'll be able to tough it out . Thanks for the post about it ,though ! Athena Thanks for telling me how to do spoilers. I know how but didn't see that I gave anything away in my post above. I didn't tell what happened or to whom . I just don't feel well right now and not much in the mood to deal with stuff ,so it's easier to just stop posting reviews. I'll just post a rating and call it quits . Thank you for being kind enough to try to help, though .

Yes Devil, I agree ,migraines are horrid . Athena, Yes, I can get through the days ok. The worst time is probably early morning like now. I have to take my thyroid med an hour before eating, and cant take my pain meds without food, so seeing that its been all night since any pain meds, mornings are worse. I'm getting through it ok though, toughing it out . I admire tough people, so I'm trying to be one
  14. Karen, The people that put classics or such on their shelves just to impress others are being fake. If you don't read them or plan to, why have them just to make people think highly of you ? I read whatever I enjoy, and don't really care what others think . I haven't ever noticed a time when I'd read a certain book because of the weather or time of year. I just read whatever sounds good at the time . Devi That's funny about your mom and you hiding certain books on your kindle ! Might be best to do that if you think she'd object to certain books .
  15. Karen I've read a few books lately that I read long ago and really loved then, but not quite as much this time around ,so maybe sometimes our tastes change over time . Nothing wrong with reading whatever you want ,it's no one else's business if it's acceptable to them or not ! Read what you enjoy .
  16. Pixie Your reading list is great this year . Doing wonderful ! Have you read all of Allende's books now ? I never realized she wrote so many . I read a few of them years ago, but none recently .
  17. Oh okay, thanks for the info. I just remembered someone in here reading a similar sounding book . I thought they might be the same ones .
  18. Angury I use bookmarks if it's a hardback or book in nice shape. If its a small paperback of my own I usually fold down the corner . Library books I always use bookmarks. I've recently been looking for old postcards and use them for bookmarks. In some of the bookstores here they have bookmarks that clip onto the page which might stay in your book better .
  19. In answer to which author compares to Wally Lamb, I'd have to say John Irving to some extent, maybe without a bit of the bite he has. Also Richard Russo would be similar .
  20. Kate I picked up the book you mentioned above . I can certainly see already what you mean . Not a likeable character in any way so far. Maybe as I get further into the book I'll see some redeeming feature ,but not so far !
  21. Devi The Dr book you mentioned sounds really good. Someone else in here mentioned one sorta like that called Confessions of a GP or something . I wonder if they were both the same with different titles ? I haven't read any Austere but I love the cover of that book ! Very pretty .
  22. Athena I love your shelves. They are really pretty . Have you posted photos of your apartment yet ? If so, I missed them !

Morning folks Yep, I'll definitely follow through with the heart issues once I get stronger regarding my knee .It's been really painful this weekend . Tomorrow night is my first therapy session so I bet I'll feel it by then ! Athena, Yes Dr Seuss is definitely worth a try .I'd think they'd be available almost everywhere . It's the easiest books I could think of . I have started Kate's latest read, Summer House ......... I can certainly understand why she was asking the questions she was ! Wow, not an easy guy to like . Our library next town over has an order.up service. You call them with a book order and they have them ready in their drive thru 30 minutes later ,so I ordered some books and the Husbster picked them up for me . Quite a handy service Our town librarian said she'd drop me off a stack , just call and she'd run them up here for me. They weren't open late yesterday though. Anyhow, it's early morning , I just woke up and have yet to take my first pain pills ,so I'm wide awake but my knee feels like Lizzie Borden took her axe to it and gave it 40whacks . Time for some pills. Thanks for all your well wishes. I appreciate them all .
