Downloadable quizzes for book clubs?
julie replied to JaneH's topic in Quiz Room / Thread Games Jokes etc
Glad I could be of help . Just go into search and look up book trivia or literature trivia . There are lots more ,but most are like one question on a page, so you'd have to write or type out the list one question at a time . Another really simple idea is to give them a blank sheet of paper and have them list as many One-word Titles as they can ( make it a timed test ) , or titles with a body of water, a color, etc .. There are millions of ideas like that .. Have fun . Drop in and let us know how they liked them . **Another SUPER simple book related game is to have a book laying there with a jar and slips of paper . Have each person guess how many pages are in the book . You might wanna rubber-band it so no one peeks ( if you have any peekers in your group ) . Closest guess wins (the book if you have one to give away ) . -
Just dropping in to be a cheerleader for you all . Go Team Go, Read those books Remember most importantly , Is Books, Not LOOKS . Sorry, that one was stupid ..... Two Bits Four Bits Six Bits , A Dollar All for Reading Stand up and Holler .
-
Thanks Chalie I thought I saw that someone else on here is also reading it now, but can't remember who . That's good that you could get it early but not so good if it's missing a chunk of pages . Is it sorta like Secret Life of Bees ,as far as type of story ,or something completely different ?
-
Good luck this year, Anna I also loved Poisonwood Bible .
-
Janet Best of luck in 2014. You have lots of good books on your lists ,so you're in for some treats. I'll also take some blame for the bad comments on Life of Pi . YEK . Other than that one, the rest sound good !
-
B- I think you have a good plan to read some Classics ,but sprinkle in some YA since they seem to be very popular right now and would give you a nice switch -up from time to time . Best of luck with your reading this year .
-
Good luck with your reading this year, Diane . No matter if you reach your goal, if you find some interesting books, that's what is most important .
-
Ruth Interesting to read about the Longmire books. I think there is maybe a cable tv show made from the books ? They sound good and so does the book. Kinda like a modern-day sheriff -cowboy type book .
-
Chalie Good luck with your reading this year. I thought I had already posted in here, but didn't see it . It could just be one of those days where my brain is slipping a cog, so if I already posted, ignore this . You have some good books on your list .. anxious to hear how you like the new Sue Monk Kidd book. It's not available here til Tuesday ,and looks like Oprah picked it for her next group read .

Downloadable quizzes for book clubs?
julie replied to JaneH's topic in Quiz Room / Thread Games Jokes etc
Hi guys Here are some quizzes to try : http://www.triviaplaying.com/ --If you look to the right at the top, it will have a place to click "Print the questions, no ads " --at the right, there is a category called literature. They have 8 quizzes in it . http://www.partycurrent.com/word-trivia.html Here's one about unusual words that might fit in with a book group . Here's a pdf of a Reader's Digest lit quiz : http://media.rd.com/dynamic/52/19/05/LITERATURE.pdf Here's a website to make a printable word search ,so you can make it with author's names, book title,s or something else book related -- you choose the size of the game, number of words, and design for the word search : http://tools.atozteacherstuff.com/word-search-maker/wordsearch.php See if any of these will help. I used to lead a book group a LONG time ago, so was always looking for ideas to keep the group interesting . Good luck . -
Pixie I just noticed your little notes at the side about how much a book cost you . Are you gonna keep a running tally of what you spend for the year ? THAT would definitely stop my book buying , I think . I hate even looking at the amount I've spent on past orders at amazon . WOW ..... Not good . We could have bought a used car for the same amount !
-
Thank you kindly, Devi , and I wish the same for you .
-
Thank you Athena and Chalie ! I'll go check it out .
-
Sounds great, Will I just don't want to have any hard feelings . If I were there, we could tip a beer together and shake hands as friends .
-
Kay and / or Chalie -- Can you tell me the author's name for Replay ? There are several books on Amazon with the same title. I'm trying to write out a list of books that people mention here this year that I might add to my list for future reads . I certainly won't need any soon, but if I hear of some that come highly recommended and they sound as if I might like them, I'm keeping a notebook of them handy . Thanks --

James I'd be glad if you 're interested in reading the books Will & I mentioned . I don't want you to feel as if you need to resolve any issues that Will and I have . I really don't feel as if we have any . We are 2 different people who like different books . I have respect for Will's choice in books as I hope he does mine . No hard feelings on this end ! But if you want to add any of the books we mentioned to your reading list, feel free to do so .

Thank you Athena ~~~ Pixie ~~~Ruth ~~~~~Kay I did enjoy the book and hope you do too if you ever decide to give it a try . Kay Thanks for the advice regarding the tattoo . That might be quite the conversation starter , IF I had an occupation that showed my butt cheeks, such as a pole dancer, but I am WAY past my prime for doing such a thing . ( I wouldn't have done it when I WAS in my prime ) . At least it's something to think about ,though .
-
Thank you Chrissy . I hope you have an enjoyable year of reading yourself .

Poppy So sorry for your dad. He really does look like such a robust person from your holiday pictures ,so it probably did make him feel embarrassed when others had to help him , but it's ok, that's what they are there for ,to help those in need. It was good of their neighbors to come help your mom til help arrived . I'm glad he wasn't injured any worse . Wintertime is rough on the elderly people. Staying indoors so much, getting all the flu-bugs and colds . It'll be nice when spring arrives and they will feel better . Is your dad able to sit outside a bit when the sun is out and it's nice outside ? That'll help him to feel better too . Have them drink some orange juice for some added Vitamin C to fight off their colds .

1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die - challenge
julie replied to frankie's topic in Reading Challenges
Charlie I found your post quite interesting regarding your age vs. the 1001 list . I, too, would never be able to complete the list in my lifetime, so unless I am reincarnated and can start again where I left off, I'd best steer clear of attempting this one . I have another idea : How about hanging up a complete printed out list on your wall, and you throw darts at it until you run out of darts ? The ones that get hit are the ones you'd read . That might work for me , although probably not . I just don't function well with a HAVE-To List .. I guess I'm too stubborn . If someone tells me I have to do something, I probably won't . So it's best for me to just pick up a book and read it . Saying that, I REALLY do admire anyone who attempts this and makes progress on it . It'd be a great feeling of accomplishment to see the totals go down each year . Good luck to all of you that are working on this . I'll sit at the sidelines and cheer you on . -
Uh Oh , Steve ! I feel a bit like I did in my younger years ,when I went to the skating rink. One person falls, then the rest of us did . Kinda like Dominoes . If you've already begun buying , who will the next Domino be ? I bet I'll be one of them before the day is out .
-
Thanks and same to you , Marie Yes, Ebenezer was a pretty long book . It took me several days to complete . I like books that are long and rambling and telling you all about the people who live in a certain place ,with all their little quirks and personalities ,so I enjoyed it quite a bit. The author had apparently planned a part 2 and 3 but never managed to complete them. I finished this a couple hours before New Year's ,and since the 2013 threads had already been archived, I just thought I'd toss it in here for the first of the year . Best of luck with your reading for the year. I hope you find the best books ever , this year !
-
Shelly Great news on winning another new book ! Best wishes in the new year for your reading, too .

June wonderful total for the year .90 is a LOT of books ,so you did very well ! Best of luck in the new year .
