  1. Poppyshakes: it's interesting to hear you say that about being the pathetic author in a bookstore trying to grasp people's interests. I think I'd love to be the underdog author, the odd one out shunned by people.

Of course, I'd need a book to back me ;)

  2. Weave, Chesil and Hyzenthlay, have you seen the film again yet? Tonight would've been my last chance to see it but the blizzard raging outside stopped me. I'll have to shoot for next weekend. I'm looking forward to catching things I didn't notice the first time.

I haven't, no. I'm suspecting that if I did go, and I kind of want to, I'd be going alone.

I'm pressed for time right now, with my exam coming up and only a couple more weeks before I go home for the holidays :D I really enjoyed the re-use of songs, I think the Carter Burwell songs are so great.

  3. I really like knowing what people do in life. We obviously have one thing that ties us all together, our love of books. But maybe there's more than we know. For me at least my study is a big part of my life and something I draw a lot of positive energy from, hope and plans and so on. I can't wait to finally start working in a few years. I'm studying to become a doctor, which is my dream job really. If I wasn't going to go down this path, I think I would have chosen either a nurse or a journalist of some kind.. because I do like to write.

This topic is inspired by something I wanted to share with you. The Norwegian nursing federation recently released a music video to describe their profession.

    Translation of the song:

    Heartbelief

    Sister, you were there

    You kept me alive

    You, with your willing look

You never let go of the responsibility you took.

You, you were there to plant

Healthy buds of hope in my heart

Nursed the bud and watched it grow

Your safe hands and your safe words

You saw, you knew that I needed to see

Someone who was there to take care of me

    Who really saw me

And you, nobody nobody but you

Through clouds in the sky and the sun that turns

It was you who gave me heartbelief.

That's only the first verse and refrain, but you get the gist of it. I cry instantly at this video. I think anyone who's been admitted to a hospital knows the difference a nurse can make in people's lives.

  4. The soundtrack is so beautiful! I actually thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I thought it was very well done. Critic schmitic, I enjoy what I enjoy. I have to say that Kirsten was absolutely beautiful.

Boy, I've really come round to this whole new age vampire thing.

peace, I enjoyed the pace too! It was so exciting to see the wedding dress and hear the vows and all of that girly stuff =P

  5. Okay, I have an admission to make. I've been absolutely tearing through these! Downloading them like they're cheap thai take-out on my kindle. What started out as idle time-killing has now become an obsession. The more I read, the more I appreciate the humour. They are absolutely a guilty pleasure for me! Yay VA! Which definitely doesn't fit very well as a name....

  6. Yeah, I think they read way more than we give them credit for.

I read so much when I was younger, but I didn't exactly advertise it because it wasn't "cool" to read when I was growing up. Now, however, it's becoming more and more accepted to be into stuff like vampires and anime. I think a lot of kids/teens read. At least the ones in my family and extended circle of people.

In my group of friends growing up, at least half of us liked reading.

I think all this fear of teens not reading is classic older-generation-worrying-about-younger-generation mentality.

  7. I giggled at the poem for lonely people. Boyfriend also giggled, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't enjoy poetrye. Could probably be analysed, if someone tried. Reminds me of an interview Douglas Adams gave to some sort of (atheist?) magazine. At the end of it, they asked if there was something he wanted to say to his fans. And he responded with, "Hello. How are you?"

Sigh. Oh, Douglas. Why'd you leave us. :(
