I've lost a few pounds recently. I've started running 4 times a week, and have been since April. It's doing wonders for my self-confidence and mood! Though boyfriend is concerned that I not lose more weight, but I know I have things under control. I know I'm stronger.
Sending so much respect to all of you who are making an effort to be healthy despite ailments, and despite the pure torture of dieting.. the amount of self-control involved is immense! You're all really great (even when you relapse for a while) - keep at it!

Hey guys! Happy summer!
I know I've been away a while, half a year to be exact.. I just remembered this forum today, and how friendly and homey it feels. I thought I'd drop in and catch up with you all on what you're doing, and tell you how I'm doing.
I just graduated, so I have my degree now, but no job sadly. I'll be applying for substitute positions soon. Hoping to find one, but I am determined to have a bit of a summer holiday first, because after 6 years of studying I need a break. So far, summer's rainy. I'm moved back in with my parents in Norway, and they are wonderful of course. But I'll miss Krakow so much.
In the process of moving back home, my boyfriend and I had to quit our apartment (of course). We're now in a long distance relationship, I suppose, though he's staying with me at my parents' for the summer. I'm really torn about the whole boyfriend-long distance thing, it's.. it's become quite complicated, to be honest. I'm not sure how sure I am that we're meant to be together anymore. I can say this here cause it's not like he ever checks forums, definitely not book forums. It's been causing me some grief for the past two months. I'll try not to get angsty about it, though.
My sister is getting married next summer! Which is great =) She found a lovely man who makes her happy, and between them they have four children. I do like extending our family, and as long as she's happy, I'm happy. She picked me as maid of honour which I'm really happy about, too. Even though I'll have to hold a speech!
I've been reading Ben Goldacre's "Bad Pharma" and "Bad Science" lately (simultaneously). Enjoying them, even though non fiction isn't usually my cup of tea. It is my area of interest, after all.

I was extremely saddened by this. One of my favourite authors in the realm of sci-fi, living or dead. He has a very special place for me, thanks to a few of his books and quirks.

Oh my Gosh, I just had to share this with you. I looked up The fault in our stars to see if I could pick it up in a Norwegian book shop.
Guess what they translated the title into? Go on, guess.
They took this poetic title, this beautiful phrase, and turned it into...
fudge destiny.

Nollaig- READ IT. It is great. The turn of phrase (and someone having the balls to take on Shakespeare) truly enticed me into reading this book.
It's beautiful. I don't know what else to say. It's art.

Just finished "The fault in our stars" by John Green.
Crying in that way where you try to hide it so your family won't think you're crazy.

I do it! It's great.
There are so many! Once I even found this weird caching coin that had traveled from the states to Germany to Norway - and I brought it to Poland. -
I do like to try outside my comfort zone. Only just started reading some autobiographies and self-help type books. My least favourite genre is crime, but I read that too on occasion (when it is recommended to me).
I find that reading "different" books really give me a lot. And I'm lucky enough to have a lot of family members who read different genres and aren't hesitant about sharing them with me

I see A Dance with Dragons is getting released in paperback next month - in two parts (called 'Dreams and Dust' and 'After the Feast'). So, for the second time in the series, those wanting the UK paperback are forced to pay twice for one book, whilst GRRM and his publisher sit back and rake in the cash, and he continues to take his own sweet time over finishing the series. I'm ready to give up with this, to be honest - as good as the series is, he really doesn't deserve all the attention he's getting

Remember when I went to see him?
Well, it was in Poland. When I told him I was from Norway he got all excited about someone traveling from one country to another just to see him. However, when my friend explained that we'd actually just come from another Polish city, his excitement VISIBLY died.
Like nine hours on a train isn't enough for you, George? His disappointment was pretty tangible.
And my book store friend I made there remarked that if he doesn't hurry, he'll not be able to finish them at all, considering how ancient he's getting. Reminds me of another fantasy author famous for drawing things out...

I read Boy's Life last summer, after a frantic search for it. It was everything I wanted it to be! Really enjoyed it!

I've only read The Hobbit on it(!)
It's 5 star book for me and I try and read it at least once a year.

If you like fantasy I can absolutely recommend Guy Gavriel Kay Just to restore my good name in the fantasy world: I've read the Hobbit several times, I just really love re-reading and the movie's coming up so I feel like it should be on there.Anisia: I've got pictures up on flickr of the inside of the book too, which comes with illustrations for each chapter! It's really lovely (exquisite?)!

I've been doing some reading despite my horrid updating. I can't even remember everything. But, I bought a new (old) book at the used book market in St. Andrews, Scotland. I was there visiting a friend and I came across this beauty:

Anyway, isn't it gorgeous?! It's perfect because the condition is so good, it was so cheap, and I think it's beautiful.
I'm one page in.
I've read Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, a couple of Guy Gavriel Kay novels and Alice's adventures in Wonderland since we last spoke. Plus I'm sure there's a couple more that I just can't recall right now...
BH of the TM was pretty interesting. I do enjoy a bit of child psychology. Plus, I kind of agree that children should be driven to perform their best.

I bought an old copy of "Wuthering Heights" that is in surprisingly good shape! The front cover is forest green and beautiful.

I went to circuit training yesterday (where you do one strength exercise after another) and now I hurt. I hurtss.
But it feels good.

Bree, what an amazing picture. You look like a woman with a lot of secrets, the kind of person you'd want to read about! I love how the sharp, somewhat mischievous look on your face contrasts with the protective way you're holding your child. I realise I'm going on about it now, but... you're beautiful.

I know, I was stunned (at her reaction, at her apparent nonchalance, at her clearly implied smirk to another girl about how dumb I was for even wanting to chat about the book). She's not a friend of mine, I barely know her outside of common classes. The party was at her house, is all.
What a loss and a waste. Pearls before swine comes to mind.

So yesterday I was at a classmate's house for a friend's baby shower. That was really great, but halfway through the party I notice something on her shelf. It's a very battered French copy of Les Miserables. I open it carefully, and what do you know - A FIRST EDITION. (Tome Premiere)
I approach her, awe in my eyes, and ask her about it and tell her that I am a huge (HUGE) fan. She waves a hand, smiles dismissivey and says, "oh yeah, my Dad gave me that when I started studying political science. I like the cover, but whatever." And then she shrugs and giggles (presumably at the thought of something as silly as a first edition French novel).
WHAT THE BLURGH?
I'm so jealous.
To make this more than a rant: do you own any special books?

I've read 'My grandmother sends her regards and apologises' and 'Britt-Marie'. They were both good, definitely very moving books but not in a manner that feels forced or unnecessary. Bonus: the Britt-Marie character overlaps!
