  1. That's cheap enough for me! I've just bought it. Thanks!
  2. Ooh, is it as good as the first one? Yeah, but it's worth it. I remember whizzing through it because I was enjoying it so much. Towards the end of Beowulf's Children. Definitely not as good as The Legacy of Heorot.
  3. I love the maid - Molly (I think that's her name, can't remember ). She's hilariously ditsy.
  4. Just had a roast dinner as we didn't have one yesterday.
  5. I added this to my wishlist the other day, but as it's only £2.99 (for the Kindle ) I've bought it. I'll make it my next read, I think.
  6. Hi Anna, and welcome to the forum.
  7. You've read some good books recently, Noll. Someone else read I Let You Go recently, so I've already added it to my wishlist, and I'm intrigued by the twist. I love a good, well-written twist!!
  8. How did you find The Silkworm compared to The Cuckoo's Calling? I just finished the latter a while ago, and felt a bit lukewarm about it. Was it disturbing in parts - someone mentioned it as one of the most disturbing books they've read?
  9. The only part that dragged for me, was when Aside from that, I was completely hooked.
  10. Hope you are enjoying The Legacy of Heorot, Noll. Oh dear, that doesn't sound good. I think Karsa also said that he struggled with this one a bit, and that the interaction between the two main characters was more forced. I shall still read it, but only when it's cheaper.
  11. I think maybe you have to be in a certain frame of mind to enjoy Murakami. I recently read The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle and loved it, despite giving up on it years ago. I also read Kafka On The Shore several years ago, but felt a bit 'meh' about it, but I think it just wasn't the right time for me. Because his books are so surreal and strange I think you have to be thinking in that sort of open-mindedness way at the time you read them. 1Q84 is on my wishlist, but because it's such a big book I'm going to wait till I really want to read it before I start it. I don't recall hearing that many 'meh' reviews about it though. Most people are positive about it.
  12. I don't like harm coming to animals in books or movies, but I don't recall too much about what happened in The Legacy of Heorot. I know which parts you are referring to, but I don't remember being too disturbed by it. I think I just took it as part of the story and just got caught up in the rest of it. But that's another one of our 'polar opposite' books then!
  13. Another one for the wishlist. Sounds like a great read.
  14. Brilliant review! I've tried Disgrace twice but never got very far. I don't recall why though....it may have been something with the writing style. However I did love Life of Pi, but have not read A Sense of an Ending.
  15. Oooh, can't wait to see what you think of it. Oh no, that's a shame!! I'm definitely going to wait for it to be a bit cheaper before I give it a go. I'm making somewhat slow progress with Beowulf's Children. I'm in full-on study mode at the moment, so don't have much time to read. It also doesn't help that I woke up with a cold this morning, and ended up falling asleep for a few hours this afternoon.
  16. My favourite is definitely
  17. I loved Just One Damned Thing After Another as well. I have books 2 and 3 on my Kindle.....I really must get to them soon!
  18. I can't think of 10, but the one that first came to mind was the next book by Terry Hayes - The Year of the Locust.
  19. Hi Ducky! Welcome to the forum. What sort of books do you like?
  20. I like the simplicity of the Original Edition by Christian Peterson. I also like the Russian Edition. Interesting that the German Children's Edition spells out her first name: Joanne K Rowling. That threw me when I saw it...I've never thought of her having a first name.
  21. Glad you have as much discipline as me.
  22. I've only read a bit of Beowulf's Children today. I'm supposed to be studying, but ended up going to the beach for a couple of hours. Then I came home and fell asleep.
  23. Hmm, I'm a little worried about Under the Skin because so many people had to give up on it. But I had to buy it as it was only £0.99.
  24. Glad you enjoyed it. I thought Dark Places was marginally better, so hopefully you will like that one too.
  25. Oh goodo! Hope you like it!
