  1. I'm still reading Pandora's Star. According to Kindle Paperwhite, I have just under 3 hours left till the end of the book. Seems to be taking forever, and while I'm enjoying it, I'm in the mood for something a bit lighter.
  2. I enjoyed his series many years ago when I was just getting started on the thriller genre. Now that I have read a variety of other 'thriller' novels, I can see how bland and basic his books really are. Mind you, I haven't tried his more current books, but then again I don't have much inclination to.
  3. The Invention of Wings sounds great. I read The Secret Life of Bees earlier this year and really liked it, so I must get around to reading it soon.
  4. Funny you say that, as I've put it back to list view as well. It is easier like that, though I did enjoying seeing the covers.
  5. What? I don't think I would get along with that book either, Alexi.
  6. Got my Paperwhite yesterday....I'm very impressed! I like being able to see the covers, rather than just having it in list format. I'll have a proper play with it once exams are over (2 days and counting!! ), but so far, so good.
  7. I read John Sandford's Prey series when I was younger, and enjoyed them at the time. I recently re-read one of them and was shocked by how bad it was! I think you summed it up correctly with the word 'simple'. I must give this a re-read....so glad you are enjoying it.
  8. I read about Piriton, and will always keep some on me when I go up on the moors. I think we might just have to be more cautious and not stray too far from the car during the Spring/Summer months. I've yet to see an adder, but have seen loads of pictures online, so will know what to look for. Reuben loves to go rummaging in the long grass, so I will probably keep him on a short lead now.
  9. I'm sure I will enjoy it (the Paperwhite, and the book). I love having a new gadget to play with. I love my Kindle far more than I thought I would, and I'm sure I'll always have one (or two) from now on. All those books you can carry around with you - how great is that?! I know they do some textbooks on Amazon, but my course provider took ages to make them available for the Kindle. This is my third year of studying, and it's only this current semester that I have been able to study on the Kindle. It took a bit of getting used to, but it saves on space.
  10. That's a big number! Congrats!
  11. ^ Pecking order, maybe? I don't know much about chickens, I'm afraid! Does anyone know anything about adders, and how common/rare they are? We like to take Reuben up on the moors, but we've heard a couple of stories about adder bites and it's put us off a bit. A GSD was bitten on Dartmoor last week (he's fine), and a lady was bitten a few weeks before that. Anyone have any adder-avoidance tips? It's especially worrying because we tend to walk a fair distance out from the car, and if something did happen, carrying a 25kg lab for a few miles wouldn't be easy. But we don't want to limit/shorten our walks either, because we enjoy it so much. I've googled it, and some people say they are really rare and slither away, but there still seem to be so many cases of bites.
  12. Haven't managed to get any reading done, but I have bought myself a Kindle Paperwhite. My Kindle Keyboard still works ok, but my justification is that I'll use my Kindle Keyboard for my study books, and keep my 'recreational reading' on my Paperwhite. Not much of a justification, I know. It arrives on Monday, and I'm quite excited! Yesterday, I bought Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops, for £0.99. I've also realised that Stephen King's latest (Mr Mercedes) will be out on 3rd June, so that's something to look forward to as well.
  13. Just checked mine and it doesn't have a reset button. Have you tried holding the on/off button on the off position for about 30 secs?
  14. Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops by Jen Campbell is £0.99 on the Kindle Daily Deal.
  15. Oh no, RIP Kindle! Which version was it - the keyboard version, or a more recent one? What is wrong with it - blank screen or lines through screen,or frozen? Mine occasionally has a big black mark through it (like half the screen) and it's frozen a few times, but it's usually ok when I turn it off and on.
  16. Relax, I think! I've gotten so used to having very little free time, that it will be strange to not be constantly working to a timetable all the time. Managed a little more reading of Pandora's Star last night - I'm about 70% through. I think I'll be reading this one for a while.
  17. This lot are over on the 22nd May, but then I have more in November, and my last exam should be May 2015. I will be so glad when it's over. Pillars of the Earth is a wonderful book! I've read it a couple of times, and it is one of my favorites, and I know I will read it again. It should grab you from the first chapter. I really hope you enjoy it.
  18. Thanks, Bookmonkey and Athena. I'll be so relieved when they are over.
  19. I've got exams in just under two weeks, so I'm not having much free time. I'm still managing to get some reading done, though. I finished Dark Tower 2: The Drawing of the Three a couple of days ago, and now I'm back on Pandora's Star.
  20. Great review. It sounds like an interesting read so I have added it to my wishlist.
  21. Nice review! I thought it sounded interesting, and went to add it to my wishlist, but according to Amazon I bought it in July 2013. I might bump it up towards the top of my pile....sounds like a great read.
  22. Nice reviews! IT is one of my favorites by Stephen King, and I have read it quite a few times. I love the childhood parts, when the "misfits" slowly start to befriend each other and realise that things aren't right in Derry. I also re-read Pet Semetary earlier this year. I enjoyed it, but at the same time it's not a book you can enjoy due to the subject matter. I'm one of the few people who didn't get on with The Fault In Our Stars. The dialogue of the characters just didn't ring true for me, and I found them too trendy and cool to be realistic. I'll still watch the movie though.....maybe it will make me give the book another go. I read The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared this year (or maybe it was last year ), and while I liked it, I found it a bit too long.
  23. I liked The Poisonwood Bible, but I just didn't love it as much as others did. I don't actually recall too much about it, but I remember the last half was a bit of a struggle to get through.
  24. As Athena says, you have a lot going on, and reading and reviewing is one of those things that fall by the wayside (says she, with about 8 reviews to write ), so I wouldn't worry about it. Hopefully things will get a bit more sorted soon and you can get back to reading and relaxing.
  25. I'll be interested in how you get on with this. There were parts of it that I absolutely hated and made me so angry. It's definitely a Marmite book.
