I'm not really a big movie goer as I prefer to wait for the DVD to be released, but I am looking forward to the first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to be released. Although I'll probably still wait for the DVD.

Second-hand books - can you do it?
Scoopalicious replied to gax23's topic in General Book Discussions
^ I've only ever bought one thing from Amazon Marketplace and that was a book that I could not find anywhere else, either online or in the shops, and I have to admit that I was extremely happy with the whole experience. Although I've not used it since, I wouldn't hesitate to use it in the future. -
I have to admit that I have never listened to an audio book before and to be honest with you I have no idea why. I do keep meaning to try one out because I'm sure I would probably like it, but for some reason I've always bought the actual books themselves. Maybe I'll make it my mission to listen to an audio book before the end of the year.

I do tend to have a little bit of a gap (anything from a couple of hours to the following day) between the books I read. This is mainly due to the fact that I like to write the review of the book I've just finished prior to starting a new one because otherwise I end up putting it off and the longer I do so, the harder it is for me to write it. If I do start a new book before I've written my review I try and pick one that is in a different genre to the one I've just read... again for review purposes. This is just me though.

The only language I am fluent in is my native language, English. I do know basic French and German but not enough to hold a conversation in or read a book in those languages.

I've never seen a film in 3D before either although I did buy the fourth Final Destination film on DVD recently which has both versions of the film in it. I haven't actually watched it yet, but when I do I'll probably watch the 3D version so I will let you know what I think of it then.

^ I agree. To be honest I think there were really only two possible conclusions to that whole sorry story; either he was going to shoot himself or he was going to provoke the police into shooting him. There was no way he was going to surrender and let them cart him back off to prison. At least this way the police weren't the ones to pull the trigger... although no doubt they will somehow end up getting the blame anyway. I've already heard reporters etc asking the question 'could the police have done more'... everyone just loves someone to blame don't they?!

Yeah they had those versions on Play.com when I first decided to buy the series and I did debate getting them for a while but in the end I decided to wait for the English versions. I was starting off from the very beginning though as I'd never seen the show before and Seasons 1-5 had already been released with Season 6 being released soon after so it's really only Season 7 I've had to wait any great length of time for and even then it's only really a few months. I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

2012 - My first time seeing this movie and I have to say I quite liked it. It did get off to a little bit of a slow start but the action certainly picks up after that. Plus, I do have a little bit of a thing for John Cusack so that helped too!

I received an email a couple of days ago from Amazon saying that the Season 7 boxset had been put back to September (it had been due for release this month) which kind of sucks! On the plus side, however, it does give me more time to re-watch the rest of the seasons!

Second-hand books - can you do it?
Scoopalicious replied to gax23's topic in General Book Discussions
I for one have absolutely no problem in buying, borrowing or reading second hand books. I mean, don't get me wrong, in an ideal world I would love to be able to buy my own personal brand new copy of all the books I read but in reality it's just not possible. Saying that though the vast majority of the books I do buy probably are brand new, although I very rarely pay full price for them and with sites like Amazon and The Book Depository you don't really need to buy books at full price any more as you can buy most books at a discounted price and even in the shops you can usually get a 3 for 2 deal or something similar. I do, however, buy second-hand books from charity shops and even occasionally on eBay and Amazon Marketplace (if I can't get it elsewhere) and I am of course a regular visitor to my local library so second hand books are not a problem with me as long as they are in good condition. -

I've also been debating whether to get Under the Dome or not. I did go through a Stephen King phase a while ago... quite a while ago in fact but it's been a while since I last read one of his book. I think the last time was a couple of years ago when I re-read IT. I do think Under the Dome sounds quite good though, although I've heard a couple of people say the ending's a little weird. I'm not sure I'm really in the mood for a Stephen King book at the moment. I think I'll hold off buying it and borrow it from the library at a later date instead.

I don't look up every word I come across that I don't know the meaning of because like a couple of other people have said I can usually figure out the meaning from the rest of the sentence. However, if this isn't the case I will jot down the word and look it up at a later time.

Like Michelle said earlier in this thread I respect it as being part of someone's culture, but I personally think it's nothing but a nuisance when it comes to the football. I find football annoying to watch at the best of times what with all the cheering, shouting, singing etc. that goes on during the game and that along with the sound of these horns makes it even more unbearable. I don't know how the players can stand it.

Your Book Activity Today - Thread 11
Scoopalicious replied to Janet's topic in General Book Discussions
I didn't get as much reading done yesterday as I had originally hoped, so I'm planning on making up for that today. -
That is a fantastic film and one I could watch time and time again. I haven't seen it in a while though.
