  1. The Star Wars Saga - I cannot begin to describe how important these films are to me. I had a copy of the first one, A New Hope, on VHS when I was a kid. I watched it so much that the sound went in the middle. I still continued watching it, able to remember all the soundtrack.

Aliens - Ridley Scott's Alien is a great piece of sci-fi horror, but for full on action its outdone by James Cameron's Aliens. The special effects, the script, and the performances are all fantastic and come together so well.

I'd go along with those as well.

Also for me, LA Confidential. It's one of those films which I went to see on a whim and came out of the cinema wishing it hadn't finished. I was totally caught up in the whole experience of it. Brilliant acting, brilliant story and a brilliant adaptation of a brilliant book. Quite how Titanic managed to win the Oscar for Best Film in the same year this came out is beyond me.

  2. I made a Soundgarden playlist this morning, so that's what I've been listening to all day:

    Spoonman

    Jesus Christ Pose

    Dusty

    Slaves and Bulldozers

    Like Suicide

    Ty Cobb

    Blow Up the Outside World

    Kickstand

    Rusty Cage

    Black Hole Sun

Cracking! Add in Fell On Black Days for me

    My shuffle came up with:

    Tool - Aenima

Pure Reason Revolution - In Aurelia

Led Zeppelin - Ten Years Gone

The Pineapple Thief - All You Need To Know

    Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb

Porcupine Tree - Slave Called Shiver

    Marillion - The Great Escape

The Secret Machines - Lightning Blue Eyes

    Opeth - When

NIN - Beside You In Time

  3. I went through every post and I did't see any one put Steven Erikson on their list. The Malazan Book of the fallen series starting with Gardens of the Moon have more scope and depth than any story i've read.

    Agreed!

I think The Bonehunters ranks as my favourite fantasy book, at the moment anyway. House of Chains and Midnight Tides aren't far behind. I thought GRRM's A Game of Thrones was absolutely thrilling, too.

Looks like I need to get another avatar - Anomander Rake was my second choice for username

  4. I'm hugely addicted to the Malazan series by Steven Erikson and Ian Cameron Esslemont. I've read (and am gradually re-reading) the nine existing novels in his Malazan Book of The Fallen series, and the tenth and final one is due at the end of this year. Esslemont is writing a companion series called Malazan Empire, for which there are currently two books.

I've also arrived a bit late at George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, which I am loving (on book two at the moment). I'm quite a fan of Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels, and am just getting into Iain M Banks's Culture series as well. Used to love David Eddings' books, like The Belgariad and The Mallorean.

  5. Hi everyone :)

Gosh, I don't know what to write  I live in London. I work from home, part-time at the moment, and with the rest of my time I have rediscovered my love of reading and writing. When I was working full-time in Central London I didn't read much at all but that's all changed in the past year. These days when I walk into a book shop I'm like a kid in a candy store: "I want to read that! And that! Oooh, and that!" I don't think anything can replace that feeling - buying books from Amazon just isn't the same.

I mainly read science fiction and fantasy (and I like rock music - I know! What a geek!! :D ) but have been known to read other genres as well.

Favourite author at the moment is Steven Erikson. I read his Malazan Book of The Fallen series last year and am in the process of re-reading it already because I loved it so much.

I found this site completely by accident yesterday and thought I'd sign up. It'll be great to read other people's opinions and get steered towards some authors I might never even have considered reading.

Sheesh, and I didn't know what to write ...
