  8. I forgot to mention Winter's Bone - a terrific adaptation of the Daniel Woodrell book. Also the two Cormac McCarthy ones, No Country For Old Men and The Road, excellent and very good respectively. Going back a bit, Jaws is one of my favourite films, and it's a good book, but there are quite large differences between them. I'm not sure whether that makes it a good adaptation or not ...
  9. LA Confidential is the best adaptation I've seen, I think. The novel spans a decade and contains hundreds of characters, so to take that and condense it down into two hours and still have it equal - if not better - the book was a triumph. I loved Fellowship of the Ring, as well, and thought it was the best actual adaptation out of the three LotR films.
  10. I got The Octopus by Amplifier, Someone Here Is Missing by The Pineapple Thief, and the Game of Thrones soundtrack
  11. I don't know if you're aware - and I hate to be the bearer of bad news - but it seems that Camelot has been cancelled. http://www.iftn.ie/news/?act1=record&only=1&aid=73&rid=4284041&tpl=archnews&force=1
  12. Nice one I hope you told the lazy sod asked him politely to pull his finger out and get the books finished
  13. Apparently I've given four books 10 out of 10 so far this year ... The Snowman by Jo Nesbo The Lions of Al-Rassan by Guy Gavriel Kay A Song for Arbonne by Guy Gavriel Kay A Storm of Swords by George RR Martin ... but I also gave one book 11 out of 10 That was The Crippled God by Steven Erikson, which is the last book in his 'Tales of the Malazan Book of the Fallen'. It was a fantastic ending, and holds a special place for me as it's my favourite series of books
  14. Iconoclast by Symphony X
  15. Corduroy by Pearl Jam
  16. Says the person who travelled for nine hours to meet the author - Mr Pot meet Mr Kettle
  17. Fussy Edit: Re-reading the end of the book (which I just have ), I'm quite relieved they removed the nipple-biting Edit: I also think that, for people who hadn't read the books, the sound of the eggs cracking and Dany calling to 'her children' would have detracted from the first sight of the dragons. I do get what you're saying, it just totally worked for me as it is. It actually made me punch the air
  18. I think the publishers in the UK (anywhere else?) caused confusion by splitting the third book, A Storm of Swords, into two parts for its paperback release (called 'Steel & Snow' and 'Blood & Gold'). Officially, the fifth book, A Dance With Dragons, is out in a couple of weeks time, but if you're in the UK it's effectively the sixth book You can get A Storm of Swords in one volume on the Kindle, though, for £8.99, or you can get all of them excluding A Dance With Dragons for £19.99. Edit: The Kindle versions don't include the maps, though.
  19. Hey, glad you enjoyed it BloodyNine Damn that decorating
  20. 'fraid so Edit: they start filming season 2 next month
  21. There's a decent freebie on Kindle if you have one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Legends-King-Arthur-Knights-ebook/dp/B000JMLBT8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308644659&sr=8-1
  22. That ending was perfect, just how I imagined it Is it next April yet?
  23. Crikey, I'm amazed - nay, gobsmacked - that this thread has remained quiet after last week's episode Last episode tonight
