  1. The Walking Dead spoilers:

As far as I know, that woman's still in there with her gun pointed at the door.  :giggle:

  Be funny if they leave her there and use that as a gag at the mid-season break  :giggle2:   Although . . .

I'm guessing the herd will arrive next week, so I'm thinking they're not going to be staying in Alexandria much longer

I got that too. It's a large Gollancz wide reduction to coinside with the Gollancz Festival at the weekend.

Ah, that explains it!    I also picked up:

    Roboteer by Alex Lamb

    Crashing Heaven by Al Robertson

I'm 260 pages through Luna: New Moon.  I saw reviews saying it's 'Game of Thrones in space'.  It isn't.  It's much, much better than that.

  4.

I've seen Buffy before, when I was a teenager my whole life was Buffy and Angel. The first three seasons are worth watching, after that (when Angel leaves to start his own show), I don't think it's as good. Some good episodes, like the musical one. But nah. I watch to season 3 and then go to L.A. with Angel

Agree, the first three seasons are head and shoulders above the rest of it (although season 4's 'Hush' is my favourite episode . . . ).  I never liked Angel so much, though, just didn't care about the supporting characters.

  5.

I just watched the latest episode of The Walking Dead. I don't use Internet slang very much, but O.M.G. :o I thought the first episode of the new season was a cracker, but the second episode...! :o I love to watch Talking Dead immediately afterwards, which has cast/crew and famous fans sitting around talking about the show. It's great because I always feel like I need a 'debrief' afterwards. Glad I wasn't the only one shouting at my TV in shock tonight.

'Twas rather good    Can't say I shouted at the tv but . . .

I was convinced Morgan was walking into the house where the armoury was and the woman in there was going to shoot him when he opened the door

  6. ^^ Not surprised at all - mentioned this in t'other thread after the season 3 finale, they'd been stalling on it for so long - Syfy always cancels its best shows

On the plus side, they wrapped it up pretty neatly at the end of season 3, so they obviously had an idea this was coming.

  7. The Empty Throne (The Warrior Chronicles Book #8) by Bernard Cornwell

    2014 - HarperCollins ebook - 305 pages

“My name is Uhtred. I am the son of Uhtred, who was the son of Uhtred . . .”

Britain, early tenth century AD: a time of change. There are new raids by the Vikings from Ireland, and turmoil among the Saxons over the leadership of Mercia. A younger generation is taking over.

Æthelred, the ruler of Mercia, is dying, leaving no legitimate heir. The West Saxons want their king, but Uhtred has long supported Athelflaed, sister to King Edward of Wessex and wife of Aethelred. Widely loved and respected, Athelflaed has all the makings of a leader—but could Saxon warriors ever accept a woman as their ruler? The stage is set for rivals to fight for the empty throne.

I'm slightly shocked that I read the seventh book in this series back in January.  Can't believe it's been that long.  Where has this year gone?

Anyway, returning to the series with this eighth entry was great.  Picking up a while after the brilliant finale to the previous novel, The Pagan Lord, here we find Uhtred to be feeling his age, for various spoilery reasons.  Cornwell's characters are always engaging and here he gives Uhtred a world-weary edge that sees his relationships with others gain a pleasing warmth.  The other characters aren't short-changed either.  I've always loved the banter between Uhtred and Finan and here it goes above and beyond, full of witty one-liners and a level of trust that comes from their shared experiences.  Additionally, Cornwell brings Uhtred's son (called Uhtred, of course!) and daughter, Stiorra, to the fore, and his development of them - particularly Stiorra - is wonderful.

There's less action in this one than in previous entries, and I didn't mind a bit, because the characterisation, the setting, the atmosphere, and the history is so rich.  When the action does come it is thrilling, but it is far from the be-all and end-all of this novel.

Apart from a brief dip in interest around book five, The Burning Land, this series has never failed to entertain me, and the last couple of books and been bang on form.  The Empty Throne is, for me, one of the best instalments in the series so far.

  8.

Ah, right. I wondered if Victor Garber`s character was going to be Firestorm on his own.  Is Wells really `dead` dead or able to come back through another Universe, like the one in which the Flash hat came through from ?

Also, what happened to Eddie's body when it got sucked into the breach??

  9.

I noticed that ! :giggle2:   I liked the naming of the Villain bit.

    The Flash 2x02

The naming thing is even funnier in the second ep - "I hate it when they put a colour in the name"

Also, Jay Garrick and Patty Spivot - brilliant additions to the cast!  Things are going to get really crazy this season, I reckon :D

  10. Flash 2 x 01

Well, I was expecting more, especially after how good S1 was. It was a downer for me, what with killing off Ronnie ( awww. Well, maybe he`s not really dead ? Again ?  ) and getting rid Barry`s dad. It felt  like a bunch of loose ends being got rid of, before the real season started.

This is all part of Wells's plan.  He had to get Barry's dad released to fulfill part of the future to which he wanted to return - he knew Barry's father would do what he did and leave - he told Barry he's never be happy, even he got what he really wanted.  Also, Ronnie can't be dead, as Firestorm is coming back in Legends of the Future
