  1. Nearly done will post my thoughts on it tomorow!
  2. There is no book shop(Bookworld is not a book shop imo) in the wee town in which I live(Hobbiton)! So most of my books are bought from charity shops or borrowed from the Library but every time I make my sojurn into the nearby metropolis, a visit to Waterstones is a must.(It has a very fast space age lift!) Back in my home town in Scotland, we had what was at the time the countries largest second hand book shop situated in a 19th century church with real coal fire and home made cake. It had something for every one, A huge sci-fi/fantasy and horror section, lots of biographies and stuff to keep bibliophiles of all persuations happy. I spent hours in that place!
  3. Gary Oldman as the bent New York cop in Leon. I like Paddy Considine in most things. Coming back to Trainspotting I loved Ewan Bremner as spud just as I imagined him from the book.
  4. I've thought about this some more at work today. La Strada. A Felini classic with Anthony Quinn at his best playing the brutish circus Strongman. Life is Beautiful. Another tear jerker. Let the right one in. An amazing swedish take on the vampire story. Angel Heart. Mickey Rouke and Robert DeNiro star in a great thriller with the mother of all twists. The Bicycle thief. Why are Italian film so bloody sad? One flew over the Cukoos nest. Totaly different from the book but still a cracking movie. Little big Man. The book is great too. I'll probably think of some more lol.
  5. Hamburger Hill is not bad. As a student I spent many a night staying up late watching Tour of duty on TV. I wouldn't mind seeing a film made from the Vietnamese viewpoint, most of the american films tend to portray them as evil commies to be machine gunned down en masse, wereas every american death is a tagedy.
  6. Delicatessen is a great Movie too, a wee bit more twisted perhaps but great nonetheless.
  7. I think you would enjoy it, it's dark, funny, charming, a little disconcerting and very original. Let me know what you think of it.
  8. I might be wrong here but I think the Simpsons did a parody of Run Lola Run, the one were Lisa build Lingue the language robot. Funny as hell.

  13. Charles Bukowski would fit that description well too.
  14. Me and the missus have split up! She says I love football more than her! I'm devestated! We've been together for 9 seasons!
  15. Here's some of my favourite films. The Elephant Man.David Lynch's black and white Master piece totaly blew me away the first time I saw it. Hankys at the ready. Wild at Heart.(Not the dreadful ITV programme.) Another film by David Lynch. A violent romantic road movie with a great soundtrack.( The book by Barry Gifford is also well worth a read.) City of lost Children. A wonderful french fantasy from the makers of delicatessen. Cinema Parediso. A poignant italian coming of age drama set in 50's Sicily. If you dont shed a tear by the end you're not humon imo. Nikkita. A french thriller oozes style. Jacobs Ladder. A scary psychological horror. And most films made by Sergio Leone

  18. Here's a little Ditty by Nick Cave called Papa wont leave you Henry. I went out walking the other day The wind hung wet around my neck My head it rung with screams and groans From the night I spent amongst her bones I passed beside the mission house Where that mad old buzzard, the reverend, Shrieked and flapped about life after your dead Well, I thought about my friend, Michel How they rolled him in linoleum And shot him in the neck A bloody halo, like a think-bubble Circling his head And I bellowed at the firmament Looks like the rains are hear to stay And the rain ****** down upon me And washed me all away Saying Papa won't leave you, Henry Papa won't leave you, Boy Papa won't leave you, Henry Papa won't leave you, Boy Well, the road is long And the road is hard And many fall by the side But Papa won't leave you, Henry So there ain't no need to cry And I went on down the road He went on down the road And I went on down the road He went on down the road Well, the moon it looked exhausted Like something you should pity Spent an age-spotted Above the sizzling wires of the city Well, it reminded me of her face Her bleached and hungry eyes Her hair was like a curtain Falling open with the laughter And closing with the lies But the ghost of her still lingers on Though she's passed through me And is gone The slum dogs, they are barking And the rain children on the streets And the tears that we will weep today Will all be washed away By the tears that we will weep again tomorrow Papa won't leave you, Henry Papa won't leave you, Boy Papa won't leave you, Henry Papa won't leave you, Boy For the road is long And the road is hard And many fall by the side But Papa won't leave you, Henry So there ain't no need to cry And I went on down the road He went on down the road And I went on down the road He went on down the road And I came upon a little house A little house upon a hill And I entered through, the curtain hissed Into the house with its blood-red bowels Where wet-lipped women with greasy fists Crawled the ceilings and the walls They filled me full of drink And led me round the rooms Naked and cold and grinning Until everything went black And I came down spinning I awoke so drunk and full of rage That I could hardly speak A fag in a whale-bone corset Draping his dick across my cheek And its into the shame And its into a guilt And its into the ****ing fray And the walls ran red around me A warm arterial spray Saying Papa won't leave you, Henry Papa won't leave you, Boy Papa won't leave you, Henry Papa won't leave you, Boy Well, the night is dark And the night is deep And its jaws are open wide But Papa won't leave you, Henry So there ain't no need to cry And I went on down the road He went on down the road And I went on down the road He went on down the road It's the rainy season where I'm living Death comes leaping out of every doorway Wasting you for money, for your clothes And for your nothing Entire towns being washed away Favelas exploding on inflammable spillways Lynch-mobs, death squads, babies being born without brains The mad heat and the relentless rains And if you stick your arm into that hole It comes out sheared off to the bone And with her kisses bubbling on my lips I swiped the rain and nearly missed And I went on down the road He went on down the road Singing Papa won't leave you, Henry Papa won't leave you, Boy Papa won't leave you, Henry Papa won't leave you, Boy Well, the road is long And the road is hard And many fall by the side But Papa won't leave you, Henry So there ain't no need to cry And I went on down the road He went on down the road And I went on down the road He went on down the road Bent Beneath my heavy load Under his heavy load Yeah, I went on down the road Yeah, he went on down the road Woah, woah Woah, woah Woah, woah Woah, woah And I went on down that road

  22. Just picked this up from the charity shop for 99p! I'm not familiar with any of his other work but decided to get it because I like ancient greek historical novels (Marion Zimmer Bradleys's Firebrand and David Gemmells Lion of Macedon spring to mind.)I had a quick scan at it during my lunch break, looks promising.
