  1. I loved the first few series of this show, kind of got bored with the ridiculously convoluted plot lines towards the end of the last series. I missed it last night, so watching it now, it's been on 45 minutes and I'm thinking........whats the point!
  2. I was given a wad of them when I bought a book in WHSmiths quite a few years ago advertising the BBC's The Big Read, I still have most and still use them
  3. That post just might be one of the most unintentionally frightening things i've ever read wow
  4. I've always thought I would fit in quite well within Terry Pratchett's Discworld I'd become Death's Apprentice I think, and just go around messing with people's heads
  5. A device that allows you to physically step into any written text ever created; assuming, of course that you have the original version to feed into the machine, (but we'll take that as a given). Into which work of fiction would you delve, and what would you do whilst you were there? Which character(s) would you most like to speak with? What place(s) would you like to visit? What impact would you like to have on the 'world'? Yes I have been reading 'The Eyre Affair' Apologies if a similar thread is already in existence:blush:
  6. Out of all the places on the Internet this is the last place I would have expected illicit drug use to be encouraged Loving the Thursday Next books by the way, will finish the first today if not tomorrow!
  7. I found it particularly difficult with remembering names, places/people/streets with the millennium trilogy. There are so many characters in the first book it's crazy, they also (obviously) all have Swedish names which makes it even more difficult; the third book in places is like a tongue twister with so many different street names I actually gave up on it. Generally, I tend to have the kind of mind that remembers small, insignificant details that I have read, for years; I have books that I part read over ten years ago and gave up on halfway through, I wont restart them now even though I would like to, because I already know how half the book pans out, I wish I could totally forget a story so I could re-read
  8. Ahh I see, when you said Juniors I thought you meant children of about 10 years old.
  9. 1. Lisbeth Salander. Easily my favourite fictional character of all time, as someone who has always been somewhat of an outsider, she is someone I can relate to. 2. Tyler Durden. Again as somewhat of an outsider he is someone who really 'spoke' to me. Some of the lines he comes out with I find truly inspiring. 3. Jack Torrance. For no other reason than I found him fascinating and a joy to read, in one of the best SK novels ever written. 4. Alex - A Clockwork Orange One of the most despicable, inherently evil yet somewhat refined characters ever written. 5. John Rainbird. A very imposing and well written character in the latest SK novel that I have read.
  10. Well that's crazy, the film was rated 18 for a reason, and the novel is even more graphic than the film!
  11. The voices in my head - they want me to burn things
  12. There is no reserve fee at all in my Library, I'm suprised to read that so many have to pay. I would have added this to my other post but it wont let me edit it for some reason.
  13. Search 'Library' on your local authority website, you should find it there.
  14. I joined my library about a month ago for the first time in about 20 years, I have just come back from there with the entire Thursday Next series which is 5 books. None of them were in my local branch but I was able to search online for which Libraries in the County had them, and then hold them online, I was then told when they were all in so I could pick them up. I'm also able to renew books online. Took just over a week or so to get them all in, but you cant fault that kind of service. Could not be happier with my Library.
  15. I read Fight Club a few years ago (twice) it is a really good story, has to be for me to read it twice. But I cant see it being used in schools:mrgreen: I seem to remember there being quite a descriptive few paragraphs on bomb making!
  16. I'm intending to work my way through The Dark Tower series once I have finished The Thursday Next series, I have a fascination with the word series for some reason it seems.
  17. Hey everyone, just registered on here after looking around for a book related forum where people post more than once a fortnight and one that is based in the uk, and I think i've found it! I have always been a casual reader of fiction, picking a book up now and again; but have decided this year to make an effort to read more. I have just finished reading Firestarter by Stephen King after having it on my bookshelf for years and thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end, what a great book! Just before starting Firestarter I read the first two in the Sara Linton series by Karin Slaughter, also very good books. So this weekend I am starting on something quite a lot more lighthearted, and am going to be picking up all 5 of Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series from my library tomorrow. I love Terry Pratchett so am really looking forward to getting stuck into this series. Sorry for rambling, it's late and i've had way to much Coffee Looking forward to taking part in the forum!
