  1. Hello Bookgeek, welcome to the forums! I'm pretty new here too but as you can see I've already racked up a fair few posts, it's really great here
  2. Raven, that sounds like an interesting book, I will have a look out for it!
  3. Interesting review, Kell, mainly as so many people rate this book. I think I'll give it a try as I've seen it at the library.
  4. Glad you enjoyed it Melisa! I picked up We Need To Talk About Kevin the other week, and went to library and on Frankie's recommendation, got The Stranger Beside Me by Ann Rule, which I am slowly making my way through.
  5. I read about 20 pages of The Stranger Beside Me by Ann Rule last night.
  6. Do you have it on DVD? I keep seeing it about and meaning to pick it up!
  7. Hello Vicky! You also have my dream job
  8. Kimmy, don't fret too much - sometimes there are slower weeks - I remember one week I was really poorly and hardly ate, and I only lost a pound, whereas the week before I ate rubbish and lost 3lbs! On the water debate, it's rubbish here too - we're in a hard water area but the worse water I've tasted was when I lived in Ipswich - yack! It was awful.
  9. I am still plodding through Angels and Demons, but haven't read much of that in the last few days as I got "The Stranger Beside Me" by Ann Rule (as recommended by Frankie!) and have read about 40 pages today whilst waiting for my Mum to get up earlier.
  10. I clicked on the link to the old thread but it seems to be the same thread, so I don't know if I've done something wrong (probably) I started to read this book two years ago but couldn't really get into it for some reason, I have read "The Woods" by Harlan Coben and "Hold Tight" both of which were...okay - I read Hold Tight in a day but sort of did it to fulfill my need to finish a book, which is hyprocritical in that I never finished Tell No One! I bought another one, Back Spin, so I'll sit down at some point this year and get through them. Am I right in thinking the version of this is originally French?
  11. I agree with runner in that I found Silence of the Lambs an amazing book, as I did Red Dragon. Hannibal, I can give or take (rather like the film, which I didn't really like) so I am mixed about Hannibal Rising. I keep meaning to pick it up from the library and give it a go but I don't know whether to go through the triology beforehand to refresh my memory. PS - Beccles, I used to live just down the road from you! I grew up just off the A146

    More football

I am glad Terry is no longer captain. He's a good player but ultimately when he has to bring together a team of players with his past discretions, I can see why it would create a rift. I think he's a prize idiot anyway, but then I don't think much of Rio nor Gerrard, the latter who is pretty much cut from the same cloth as Terry (in terms of being a thuggish). I honestly don't know who would have made a good captain out of the rest, Rooney would have probably buckled under it and got too fired up. Robert Green maybe, he seems to keep himself to himself (unless I've missed something major) but I wouldn't classify him as a leader as such.
  13. I cried when I went to see (500) Days of Summer last year. It co-incided with a really rubbishy period of my life and I just cried listening to the soundtrack on Spotify for about two weeks!
  14. One of my favourite Muse songs, if not one of my favourite songs, period! White Winter Hymnal - Fleet Foxes
  15. Oh, CaliLily, that sounds awful about the tablets! Metformin is the drug of choice over here but I've heard it really messes with your tummy and I already have problems with the M.E, so I'm not too keen on taking it. BookJumper, I think the theory behind the water consumption is that because you are taking something in, your body reacts in a way that makes it think it is full. I am probably wildly wrong though! I'm the same with water, I have a threshold and if I go over that then I'm always rushing to the lavatory!
  16. Welcome to the forum, Coco!
  17. Simply The Best by Tina Turner - it's on the radio at my Mum's, not exactly my own choice
  18. Good observation, vodkafan! I'm a bit proflic on forums if I enjoy them, and I do have a lot of time on my hands Was it The Jigsaw Man by Paul Britton? (Or Picking Up The Pieces, his other relatively similar book) I read both before I did my degree as a lot of people were talking about it, he is a very well known psychologist who was drafted into forensics to profile criminals.
  19. It's interesting to see how you all flesh out characters - whether it's visual, behaviour beyond the book or how they'd speak, for instance. I have a horrendous memory, so usually if I enjoy a book I will re-read it about a year later to remind myself - if it's a shortish book I'm usually okay, but 500+ and I can guarantee I will have forgotten moments in the plot and names. But I blame myself for that, and my lack of attention at times!
  20. I've never tried slimfast before - I remember drinking a shake of my friends and not liking it but I'm really fussy with foods/drinks. This was about eight years ago though so things have probably changed! I do have a lot of weight to lose though, which is a bit depressing, but years of not being able to do much activity beyond walking (and occasional gym) and not eating the right things (although I've never been a binge eater, the last packet of biscuits I had lasted a month and a half!) means I've put weight on, plus PCOS - joy! Interesting to read about the water consumption, Noll - I really try hard to drink a lot of water as I drink a lot of fluids in general but I get a bit of a gag complex if I drink too much. Strange I know!
  21. Good thread CaliLily! I will be joining you in the dieting wagon, I've got loads to lose and need to at least start to lose some weight before my brother's wedding in September, and then my own wedding the following December! I'm not going to get skinny slim, I'd just like to be about a size 12 (anything less on me looks silly). I think I'm going to adopt a low GI type diet as this seems to work well with my illness and have got all the relevant books, just need to put a diet plan together!
