  1. Hi Alexi! Richard Herley - The Penal Colony This was a freebie on the kindle that really surprised me with its quality. Marina Lewycka - A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian I second this one, as Brian says it is very funny. Enjoy your reading
  2. Yes I find the whole idea of rating is just a bit of extra fun as my opinion of a book , like yours, can change considerably after it has "stewed" a bit in my brain over time. That's one reason I have never really bothered with rating up to now. But I will try it and see how it goes.
  3. Hi Noll I have read 6 from your TBR you have laid out so far. Emotional Geology, Sophie's World We Need To Talk About Kevin Miss Smilla's Feeling For Snow The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo The Interpretation Of Murder All very different books! My least favourite was Sophie's World, although it starts off great and I did enjoy the little potted bits of Philosophy. A YA book you might like that I read was Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake. It's a supernatural one but not the usual vampires or zombies. I think I got this one from Lauraloves list.
  4. Thanks Noll yes I am looking forward to those particular three. Battle Royale I have had sitting on my kindle for over a year and never seemed to get around to it (although my daughter did borrow my kindle for 6 months so that is one excuse)
  5. Last two nights have watched 1 and 2 of the Dragon Tattoo films after getting the kids to sleep. Unfortunately will miss number 3 tonight as will be at work .
  6. Good variety of genres in those lists Kat, and a few I have read. You will need to get into the attic soon I hope!
  7. Hi Frankie sorry to go off on a tangent here.....I had no idea you played Carcassone ! Is that the boardgame or the PC/console version?
  8. I am sure you will do that so easy. Are your eyes Ok now? Did that glazing thing go?
  9. It'a pretty big TBR pile Ben, good luck. I get excited reading everybodies new 2013 threads too.
  10. Thanks Kylie and busy91. Still got the kids so am just reading snatches here and there today.
  11. I must admit I got a bit confused by your different lists Laura but I saw some interesting titles so I will be reading your reviews with interest as usual!
  12. I found the Persephone books interesting too Claire. They have a couple of SF titles I want to check out and many others look interesting in other ways. Annoyingly they don't do paperbacks and the e books are not compatible with kindle though.
  13. ah I must keep an eye on your blog then Michelle.
  14. Thanks! I got The hundred year old man and life of Pi . 40p well spent
  15. Thanks chesil, kidsmum, bree and devi. The kids bought me loads of books for Christmas which I must now add on to my TBR pile: God Collar- Marcus Brigstocke Saving Faith - David Baldacci Stalin's Ghost - Martin Cruz Smith The Spire - Richard North Patterson Eye Of The Needle - Ken Follet The Dark Of The sun - Wilbur Smith Smokescreen -Dick Francis Lurulu - Jack Vance Emphyrio - Jack Vance
  16. Reading me some Stephanie Plum at the moment
  17. I have pinched this from bobblybear's 2013 book list it seems a good simple rating system and I don't use any at the moment.. 1/6: I didn't like it 2/6: It was okay 3/6: I liked it 4/6: I really liked it 5/6: It was amazing 6/6: Simply outstanding - on my 'best of all time' list
  18. Yeah you get any books for pressies?
  19. Hi Steve Happy Boxing Day
  20. Hi TammyRich, interesting, thanks; I am reading as many reviews as possible of this book, good and bad.
  21. Very organised Frankie! But I can see that a book can be on more than one list at the same time so not quite as daunting as first appears , but still a huge challenge. Good luck.
  22. Well done busy91 ! Sorry I did not pay more attention to your blog. I don't remember seeing any of your posts
  23. Hi Brian you have a lot more than 40 on your TBR pile so will you just choose by whim as you go?
  24. Glad you liked Fingersmith bobblybear. That is the second review I have read of Pigeon English that said almost the same thing so I am a bit on the borderline for that one, don't know whether I would want to read it or not....
  25. Hey Brian good to see you bust your expected target by a good margin too. I like the little overview at the end of what your best books were for the year. I look forward to seeing what you put on your 2013 blog.
