  1. Thanks for the recommendations. I'll keep an eye out for them. I'm really enjoying Karen Rose's Kill For Me. Hopefully will finish it this weekend!!
  2. I did wonder if Scream for Me, Die for Me and Kill for Me were a series. I'm currently reading Kill for Me, and haven't read any of her others. I'm really enjoying it and its very fast paced. I only started yesterday and I'm already half way through it!!
  3. I really enjoyed this book aswell. Thought it was a brilliant idea for a story.
  4. Brilliant review. Flesh House sounds like a good book, but you said it was part of a series. Do you feel that you have to read the books in order or could you just pick one up half way through the series?
  5. Review: Title: Songs of the Humpback Whale Author: Jodi Picoult Sypnosis (from back of book): The first time Jane Jones tried to leave her husband, her daughter almost got killed. This time, she's going to do it right. Jane escaped a childhood of abuse into the refuge of marriage, only to find history repeating itself. And when her husband's neglect extends to their daughter too, she knows it must stop. Taking Rebecca wit her, Jane runs away, seeking the only place of safety she knows. But however far she runs, she cannot escape the question always on her mind: how can she save her daughter, when she couldn't save herself? My Comments: I am a massive Jodi Picoult fan (as my first post in this thread shows), however was a little disappointed with this book. The whole book is told from different point of views; the first half of the book in particular jumps from the current time to the future. I found this slightly confusing as we were being introduced to characters that I didn't know how they fitted into the story. However, the second half of the story was much better. As you got further in the story, the parts that you already knew from the beginning is told in more detail. I would recommend this book to any of Jodi Picoult's fans, but would probably suggest reading some of her other books first. Rating: 4/5
  6. I really need to sign up to the library round the corner here, but I don't want to do that until I've read all or most of the books I haven't read that I've brought. The trouble is I keep adding to them
  7. Great review, think I'll add these onto my wishlist, which is increasing everytime I'm on this forum!!!
  8. Ohhh this sounds good. I've only read Singing Mermaids from this series so will definately give this a go!!
  9. If she liked Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella, there are few more books in that series she could try. I've read nearly all of Sophie Kinsella books and to me they are all easy reading, light hearted.
  10. I've kept all mine, but I think the ones I really haven't enjoyed I'll either sell or give to a charity shop as I won't read them again and I'm running out of room!!
  11. Too much description which isn't necessary, I don't like to skip read, but I do if there is unneccessary description. I don't like long chapters where there isn't a decent place to stop half way through if you have to. Personally I prefer short chapters (feels like I've read more ) but especially because I read a lot in my lunch hour so am restricted for time. Also, when you're reading a story in a series of books which is half way through the series, and they assume you know the previous story lines etc (the one especially for me was Scarpetta by Patricia Cornwell - I happened to see the book cheap and it sounded good. I wasn't aware that it was part of a series until I started reading it!!)
  12. Mermaids Singing was my first book for Val McDermids. I loved it. Recently read A Darker Domain. Will definately read more of hers.
  13. Ahhh thank you very much!!
  14. Thanks for that about Slaughter. Didn't realise there was an order. I tend to pick up most of the books cheap, which is how I come across these authors, so I don't always know if its part of a series etc.
  15. Ahh thanks. Its always nice to read what other people think about the book before starting it!!

  19. Mermaids Singing by Val McDermid. Very good book though!!!
  20. I cried so much at the end of this book that I couldn't finish it. I had to cry for a good ten minutes before I could read it again (and I still carried on crying). Brilliant book, very well written. Can't wait to see the film now.
  21. I've really enjoyed all of Sophie Kinsella's books, as well as the books she has written under the name of Madeleine Wickham. I think they are very easy to read and enjoyable. Can't wait to read Twenties Girl.
  22. There's a couple that I've read that may fit what you are looking for. 'The Stolen' by Jason Pinter & No Time For Goodbye by Linwood Barclay
