  1. I just finished The magicians of Caprona by Diana Wynne Jones. Another truely fantastic read. I'm seriously thinking I miht order all her other books now. She's fast becoming one of my favourites.

I'm on a roll so I'm about to start Witch Week the third book in the Chrestomanci series

Quoting myself this book sealed the deal for me. Diana Wynne Jones is a chraming writer - her characters just come to life. I love that the Chrestomanci books aren't all about the same group of characters. It's refreshing to read and the guest appearance (for want of a better phrase) of Chrestomanci in each book just ties them together.

I'm now starting on the fourth book The lives of Christopher Chant

  2. was hoping someone has read The mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley or any of the other Avalon books in the series to give me a better insight to them. I picked up The mists today and ummed and ahhed over it - mean I love anything Arthurian so I'll like it right?

  3. I've read and enjoyed - The First Law Trilogy (Joe Abercrombie). I did find the first one hard to get into but one rainy day was all it took. I think the characters are well written and are not the carbon copy of most fantasy heros/ villains. I was sorry when it all ended and can't wait to start his new book Best served cold.

  4. I had today off and managed to read Evernight by Claudia Gray in one sitting. I'm a bit ho hum about where this series is actually going it just kinda wafs along with the occasional - oh by the way did I tell you such and such (important information here) cos it's like so part of where we were going with this didn't I tell you - oh my bad. I have already got the second in the series Stargazer and I'm sarting that next to see if we are actually going somewhere or are just wondering around aimlessly. :irked:

  5. Yes all the time. I'd never given it a second thought but now that I do I relise that the author has never been the draw card to a book. I pick books firstly on the cover and spine because lets face it that's what we see first - so all those books that are a little different looking will always get a look in from me. Then it's the title and blurb if they grab me I don't give it a second thought it's mine now and you can't have it. I've found many fantastic authors that way including Jasper Fforde, Derek Landy and Sara Douglass.
