Witch Week - Diana Wynne Jones
-
I just finished The magicians of Caprona by Diana Wynne Jones. Another truely fantastic read. I'm seriously thinking I miht order all her other books now. She's fast becoming one of my favourites.
I'm on a roll so I'm about to start Witch Week the third book in the Chrestomanci series
-
I finished reading Charmed life by Diana Wynne Jones and I'm moving straight onto the second book in the Chrestomanci series. I enjoyed this book and not for a long time (since Harry Potter) have I felt such loathing for a character before I wanted to strangle Gwendolen from the get go. Here's hoping the rest of the series is just as good.

has anyone read the Shadowmancer by G.P Taylor? the title caught my eye today
-
I'm halfway through The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown and *shock horror* I've made some progress with The Host in that I've actually managed to get past the 50 pages I've always stalled at before
What's The Lost Symbol like?
I finished reading Tuck and have started the first book in the Chrestomanci series - Charmed Life
-
wow I've just read through your whole thread and have almost doubled my wishlist will be looking forward to hear about what else you read this year.
-
I really want to read at least another 100 pages of Tuck tonight but I keep flaffing about on the internet
-
Thanks that's all the reassurance I need - one thumbs up from this forum and it's good to go - I never bought so many books in so little time as I have since joining this forum!

I finished Scarlet today and will make a start on Tuck the last book in the King Raven series. Then it's a toss up of a reread of the outlander series ready for the upcoming book or some YA fiction.
-
I bought them all last week and I'm looking forward to reading them. I watched Howl's moving castle a few months back on a stormy night and was amazed to see it was a book first. Knowing that in most cases the book is always better I think we're onto a winner

I've read and enjoyed - The First Law Trilogy (Joe Abercrombie). I did find the first one hard to get into but one rainy day was all it took. I think the characters are well written and are not the carbon copy of most fantasy heros/ villains. I was sorry when it all ended and can't wait to start his new book Best served cold.

So now.One day soon they hang me for a rogue.
Scarlet by Stephen R Lawhead

I finished reading Stargazer by Claudia Gray last night (IMO not much better than the first one) This morning I'm starting Scarlet by Stephen R Lawhead - the second book in the King Raven series.

After reading your reviews on the house of night series I went and picked up all 5 of the released books when I was out today - thanks for the great reviews.
-
I agree with you on that Miss Whitlock - Inkheart was by far my favourite.

"I figured that one out already." I swollowed hard. "I was going to ask if you believe in ghosts."

I had today off and managed to read Evernight by Claudia Gray in one sitting. I'm a bit ho hum about where this series is actually going it just kinda wafs along with the occasional - oh by the way did I tell you such and such (important information here) cos it's like so part of where we were going with this didn't I tell you - oh my bad. I have already got the second in the series Stargazer and I'm sarting that next to see if we are actually going somewhere or are just wondering around aimlessly.

I finished The puzzle ring today - lovely little book and it makes me want to pick up more of Kate Forsyth's books.
I was also surprised with all 7 Harry Potter books in a hard cover box set by my little sister. I've been wanting to get it for ages but she went and got it for me 'just because' I'm very lucky.
-
I decided to read The puzzle ring by Kate Forsyth seems good so far. I also went out and bought the House of night series that everyone has been talking about lately and look forward to starting them soon too.
-
Finally finished Tsar by Ted Bell now I just have to pick my next read. hmmm what to pick:bookworm:
-
I've read both The looking glass wars and Seeing Redd and enjoyed them both. I'm waiting for the third to be released which is slated for next month I think.

Yes all the time. I'd never given it a second thought but now that I do I relise that the author has never been the draw card to a book. I pick books firstly on the cover and spine because lets face it that's what we see first - so all those books that are a little different looking will always get a look in from me. Then it's the title and blurb if they grab me I don't give it a second thought it's mine now and you can't have it. I've found many fantastic authors that way including Jasper Fforde, Derek Landy and Sara Douglass.

Quoting myself this book sealed the deal for me. Diana Wynne Jones is a chraming writer - her characters just come to life. I love that the Chrestomanci books aren't all about the same group of characters. It's refreshing to read and the guest appearance (for want of a better phrase) of Chrestomanci in each book just ties them together.
I'm now starting on the fourth book The lives of Christopher Chant
