  1. I love Simon Baker and the Mentalist is great. It was a good episode last night and was so sad to see him so upset in the end of last night's episode.
  2. I LOVED this book! I think it dragged a bit toward the end but not too much. I wouldn't let it discourage me from reading it if I were you. It is a really great read!
  3. Welcome Scattie! I am new on here too and it is a great place, you will love it!
  4. Without a dout the most disturbing book for me was Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Suskind. I stopped reading it with just 30 pages to left I was so disturbed by it. I kind of regret that now and wish I had actually finished it. I read it a few years before the movie and haven't watched that either.
  5. I usually read one at a time but have been known to read a couple. It depends what I am reading really. If the book is one that needs to be picked up on occasion and read in short chunks then I will usually have something else on the goat the same time.
  6. Beef stew cooked in the slow cooker all day.
  7. Yay! Can't wait!!!
  8. Okay that settles it then! I'll nip to the book shop tomorrow and see if I can get hold of The Bone Collector. I have a ways to go in the book I a reading now (it is a not a book you can rush, this one) so it will have to wait a while but I am really fired up to read these now.

Thanks for the great welcome everyone! It is a great forum and I am now finding my way around. I have learned a couple of things though. I need to start a list of the books I have read so far this year. I need to start making a list of the books I plan to read this year. And then I need to make a wish list of the books I really want. It is so great that everyone keeps track of these and then posts for everyone else to have a look. I have so many ideas for books now that I have been reading different posts on here. It's been brilliant!

Thanks! I am finding my way around and settling in fine. It is a great place!

  11. I love the Lincoln Rhymes books. I have read two, both bought from charity shops. I have read The Vanished Man and The Twelfth Card. I have to read the rest but want to go back and start from the beginning. I am not starting my new Wish List!
  12. I loved The Tudors! It wasn't exactly historically acciuate but with Jonathon Rhys Meyers playng Henry it makes for great watching
  13. Welcome Suzanna! I am new on here as well!
  14. Personally I have abandoned many books at about the 40 page mark. If a book cannot hold your attention by page 40 then I wonder if it is worth persevering. She may have a point that you had not finished them so technically you could not give a critique. However, I would argue that the books could not keep your attention beyond 40 pages so did not live up to the hype that surrounded them.
  15. Watch your step. The Crimson Petal and the White - Michel Faber
  16. I just sent you one. Try using Firefox.

  17. I don't mind either really. If I am wanting something specific I will probably order online. If I want to browse I will probably go to a book shop. I prefer small book shops to huge ones. I love used book shops where you can usually find a few real treasures.
  18. Yay, seems I can now send pms!! How are you?

  19. I thought it was a good reply. And doing a draft when you are peeved and then re-doing it is always a good idea. That way you cool off, get your frustration out and then can get a great arguement down. Good one And is it Jasper Fforde?
  20. My OH never used to read the prologue because he used to think it spoiled the story. I remember arguing about this years ago as I never skip the prologue. Too often the story depends on it. I will have to find out if he now reads them..... As for non-fiction, I seldom read it but if I do I almost never read the introduction.

Thanks everyone what a fantastic welcome! At the moment I reading THE CRIMSON PETAL AND THE WHITE by Michel Faber. I am not very far in it yet as it reads quite slow but it is a really good read so far. It is set in 1875 London and is about the trials and tribulations of a prostitute and her patron.
  22. I read this when it was first out and loved it. It came out at a time when I wanted to read anything at all about Japan and think I read it in a weekend.

Hi everyone! I was introduced to the forum by Ceinwenn as I always have my nose stuck firmly in one book or another. I love to read and always have at least one, and sometimes two or three, books on the go. I can't wait to check out what everyone is reading!!
