  1. New Moon seems to be peoples least fav? If this is so, Im looking forward to the rest as im on New Moon just now and cant stop reading, this is crazy!
  2. Hi everyone, I was hoping to publish the results straight from the survey site in order to create a link but I've been trying for ages and I just can't figure it out. If anyone however would still like to know the results, feel free to message me with your email address and I will send them, along with initial analysis by word document. Thanks again everyone for filling out the survey and also for your comments and advice :-)
  3. At last I've finished Uni, and finally had time to get tucked into Twilight. I really wanted to see what all this fuss is about and to read the book before seeing the movie, so much better that way! And I loved it! Hope the film is not a let down... Debating with myself right now whether I should go and read them all, hmm...
  4. Hope you don't mind if I add this in as a quote in my dissertation, just as an example of criticism as one of the novels I am writing about is Jemima J.
  5. Hi everyone, Just to let you know the survey is now closed. I now have enough responses for a good valid analysis to be carried out. I'd just like to thank you all once again for taking the time to fill out this survey, it really has been appreciated and I've loved finding out what you all have to say. I will post the results up as soon as I can, but this may take a while, so please be patient with me. Again, thank you :-)
  6. Yes I am thank you, fellow scottish girl, I love this site :-)

  7. y I def agree with this bit, it seems far too easy and slightly partonising, but I still enjoyed the book. I found it inspirational (not that I think you can lose that much weight in a short time and be in perfect shape) but because you can lose weight over time and it is possible to ahcieve a goal of that kind. Also, not because being thin equals success, but more at feeling happy and healthy within your own body. But if success means confidence, then I do feel losing weight can bring that to a person.
  8. I had every intention of letting everyone see the results. I cannot right at this particular moment as the surveys are still open and it is important that the answers are not encouraged in any way by other peoples answers. It is about finding out and reflecting individual opinion and I have to state this clearly in my research. But thanks for making me feel so welcome. I'm not sure how that statement was meant, but I'd just like to offer my sincere thanks to everyone for their time and kindness, it really is appreciated :-)
  9. Hi, thanks for letting me know about this. I was actually sent the radio transcript by someone on Marian's 'team', but I wasnt told where and when the interview took place, so now I know it was on Radio 2 with Cluadia I can reference it properly, thanks again
  10. I just finished reading Rachel's Holiday, it took me a while to get into it but I am surprised at how much I liked it, looks like theres going to be a lot more Marian Keyes reading for me in the future. 'This Charming Man' sounds good, but I think I am persuaded aswell by the Smiths title, haha. I hear a cover version of the song is to be released to tie in with this book? V V Brown is it?
  11. Yes sure, I can't at the moment though but I will be able to make them available in the near future :-) PS - The responses I've had so far have been great and really encouraging (apart from one sick little pervert, theres always one!) I just want to thank everyone who has filled it in so far, and keep em coming...
  12. I guess it is pretty hard to choose when you like it and love it at the same time. But yes, it would make it void if you were to do both. Maybe I should have created a third survey for those in the middle, haha. Just try and think which percentage is highest in terms of like and dislike - is it really 50/50 or maybe 49/51, the good outweighing the bad, or vice versa...
  13. Ha, brilliant. I'm sure that is the copy of it that I have. It's all coming back now. I hope it's still in good condition :-) Not that I would sell it or anything...
  14. Hi everyone! I am currently doing a dissertation on the critical success factors and criticism of Chick Lit. If anyone would like to help by filling out this survey it would be greatly appreciated. There are two surveys - one for fans of Chick Lit and another for those who dislike or do not read Chick Lit. Please complete the survey that applies to you by clicking on the following links... Chick Lit Readers http://www.kwiksurveys.com/online-survey.php?surveyID=HKJDN_9ac8d529 Non-Chick Lit Readers http://www.kwiksurveys.com/online-survey.php?surveyID=HKKEH_6b722b6a If you wish to leave any further comments (text boxes are quite small) please feel free to do so on here and leave them open for discussion. Also, I'm looking to find out what people feel are some of the most influential novels in the progression of Chick Lit? 'Bridget Jones Diary' for example, or 'Sex and the City' Does anyone have any other suggestions? What novels have made an impact since then? Thanks :-)
  15. I've read two of them. I thought one was ok, quite good, but not amazing, the other, although an area I ought to have been interested in, I just didn't click with it at all. So maybe it's just hit or miss?
  16. Aww, yeh, I think I might still have mine somewhere up in the loft. I really hope so anyway, and I will read it to my kids (when I have them), is that sad? Hehe
  17. I've got my mum reading it now. She's just joined a slimming club so it couldn't have come at a better time, haha!
  18. The first ever book I read was called 'The Fox and the Hen' or something. A ladybird classic? I was so proud because I read it all by myself, I think I was 4 years old. It was the ladybird book I had with the biggest letters, and probably the shortest story, haha. And then there was The Enormous Turnip, that was funny. I also liked The Magic Faraway Tree, that was my boyfriend's favourite. He wants an orignial copy for his book shelf now, but its got to be original he said, before they got all politically correct and changed all the names.
  19. Got this book finally, I was annoyed at myself as I paid a
  20. I think I agree with this. There are some authors that you just don't know whether to class as Chick Lit or not... Marian Keyes maybe, or Jodi Piccolt. Although, I personally wouldn't say Jodi is but I know some of my friends would. I also feel that the cover design given to the novel probably has a big influence on deciding which category it should fall into. Just wondering also, not not just about the definition of chick lit, but the origins? Did is start with Bridget Jones, or all the way back to Jane Austen for example?
  21. Just finished reading this book and I thought it was great! My first Jane Green novel. For some reason I never thought I would enjoy Jane Green books as the blurbs never really caught my attention too much, but it seems I was wrong. But I do agree with the above statement, just because someone loses lots of weight it doesnt mean they instantly become beautiful. No erm stretch marks, cellulite or anything of the sort anymore? It's Magic! I know if I lost some weight then yes, I'd look a lot better, but its about more that that I feel. Anyway... is this a one off, or would I enjoy other Jane Green novels? I'm not sure which one to go for next...any suggestions?
  22. My fav is def Sophie Kinsella (out of all the Chick Lit I have read so far) Cecelia Ahern is also another author I have enjoyed but I have to admit I prefered her first two novels, although the fantasy elements in the others I also liked. I'm now working my way through my first full Marian Keyes novel. I went for Rachels Holiday as this is the novel I had heard the best reviews for, and also I wanted to see how it could cover such subjects as drug addiction within the Chick Lit style of writing with all that wit and humour. The thing with these novels is that they are a lot thicker than say Kinsellas, and I end up reading for too many hours into the night!
  23. I think this is the first Chick Lit novel I ever read, and I loved it. A good introduction to the CHick Lit genre I would say. I have since read every Sophie Kinsella novel in order and also loved every single one of them :-) And there's not that many authors I can say this about!
