  1. 46 pages into Biblioholism: The Literary Addiction...
  2. I am reading Biblioholism at a (for me) surprising speed but - having since this morning discovered a few defects on the volume - I won't be keeping it when I'm done, so should you br less fussy than I am you can mooch it if you like ;)!

  3. I knew that I just saw "The Book..." and "Keith Miller" in the same sentence and went of on a little private tangent of my own I do intent to purchase The Book on Fire at some point as I enjoyed The Book of Flying so much, however the fact that I don't like the cover has been putting me off all this time... maybe you can convince or coerce me ?
  4. I've just finished recommending this to Vanwa and peacefield, it's one of my favourite books of all time - I'm sure you'll love it. I've got one of those on my shelf, too... pretty, aren't they? Nice! I do look forward to hearing your opinion of the book, it's one I've been undecided about for yonks. Good haul !
  5. May I recommend to you: Stardust (fantasy/romance) and Neverwhere (dark fantasy) by Neil Gaiman? The man writes beautifully, and tells absolutely fantastic tales. Neverwhere is easily my favourite of the two, although Stardust is a bit gentler so you might want to read that first and see how you like it .
  6. I am 24 and have been enjoying Jane Austen for about a decade now you make me feel like an old lady trapped in the body of a tiny tyke!
  7. Lamb kofte don't remember what's in them at the moment but the lovely butcher sure knew how to make a sales pitch, and at the asking price (
  8. Hopefully it will not get lost in the mists of time like my proposed write-up of HitchCon09... !
  9. I'd read The Eyre Affair straightaway 'cos chances are it will read better if the characters from the original are still fresh in your mind; you can always read the Pratchett afterwards, and in fact this should work very well - Sir Terry himself is an admirer of Jasper, for reasons that will become apparent after a few pages of the latter, so they should mesh well.
  10. Tickets booked, I'm already there what's poverty when one can meet Sir Terry?I suppose that means I should fish Unseen Academicals out again... (a note in my defense: it wouldn't fit in the Luggage for my recent trip home)!
  11. May I suggest going to see a film once it's been out absolutely forever? Me and OH went to see Wild Hogs (brilliant film, incidentally) shortly before it closed and the cinema was deserted, so we treated it like one big private viewing - shoes off, feet on the seats in front, maximum level of comfort and relaxation achieved !
  12. I will do. As its light, diverting non-fiction mostly in the shape of lists, tests and epigrams, it should not take me long and, you have a friend.
  13. BookJumper

    Hello!

... and your bank balance vanish ! Welcome, by the way.
  14. I have just received Biblioholism: The Literary Addiction by Tom Raabe off BookMooch; a quick smirking perusal tells me this is going to be one journey of self-discovery ! I'll also need to get down to the post office to send my damaged books back to Amazon, *grump*.
  15. Thank you. Reweaving Shakespeare's Web: Translating the Sonnets in Theory and Practice, I do believe it was called.(... please don't encourage me I do have this execrable tendency to foist my work onto people...) Back on topic, one of my many favourites from Helene Hanff's 84 Charing Cross Road: "WELL!! All I have to say to YOU, Frank Doel, is we live in depraved, destructive and degenerate times when a bookshop - a BOOKSHOP - starts tearing up beautiful old books to use as wrapping paper... You tore that book up in the middle of a major battle and I don't even know which war it was... I want the Q anthology, ... Why don't you wrap it in pages LCXII and LCXIII so I can at least find out who won the battle and what war it was?"
  16. I haven't yet but my sister and one of my best friends went to see it and said it was lovely, apparently it's got a really moving beginning but get cheerier as you go along. Re: the beginning, it made my friend cry - the hardened cynic who I've only ever seen cry at A.I. in 18 years...!
  17. Received my Book People and Amazon orders today, however I'm having the entire Amazon batch replaced as all of them have black marks and/or dents - and they're collector's items, bought new from the main site, these are not Marketplace transactions! Looks like I'm going to have to wait yet some more to read Jane Eyre; also one copy of Foyle's Philavery was meant to be part of the present for a friend I see on Sunday... that's going to be interesting.
  18. I like your attitude look forward to hearing your thoughts!
  19. My mojo seemed to have put in a guest appearance, 30 pages of Koontz's Frankenstein 1 were read tonight - until, 140 pages in, I realised that certain themes I hoped would be but tangent to the story in fact play a major role. Annoyed as I am not to finish a book once I've invested time and feelings into it, I am not about to finish a book on principle if it's going to make me feel rotten so... goodbye Mr Koontz, I don't believe I'll be reading more of your work. A shame, so much potential, I really wanted to know how it all panned out. Oh, well.
  20. Nice. That's like there being a competition to choose one lucky poet to go live in Shakespeare's Stratford house and soak up the latent genius... DO WANT !
  21. I wouldn't say it's bad, just perhaps unwise my foot for instance never healed, several limpin' years after the event it was discovered that the straight bone had set at a right angle. I think that while books are the perfect antidote to the sheer boredom of broken bones, there must be less invasive ways of securing oneself a bit of free time !
  22. Maybe your reading mojo is on holiday with my reading mojo and my writing zest here's hoping they come back soon 'cos they miss us, really .
  23. I hope you find your way around soon, Julia (we're namesakes, by the way - I'm an Italian called Giulia) the forum may be big but it's friendly! I do hope you enjoy The Time Travelling Cat, I look forward to hearing what you think of it.
  24. Not unless you choose First Class or Express delivery - Free Super Saver Delivery rules still apply, regardless of the method Amazon choose to send the goods to you. They're currently choosing couriers over Royal Mail at the minute because given the current strike situation, people risk not getting their orders in time for Christmas otherwise. It's the same with The Book People - free delivery over
  25. You've just reminded me, I used to own a wooden Harry Potter bookmark - it was lovely and Hedgwig-shaped and I've got no idea where it flew to !
