  1. Good on ya! The Princess Bride is one of my all time favourite films - and it's filmed round where I live! How cool is that! Also, have you ever watched Nightwatch or Daywatch? They're Russian films about the balance between good and evil. Excellent stuff.

Helloooooo! Just dropping by to say 'hi' and wave frantically at you from across the pond. :006:

Actually, that doesn't look very frantic, now does it?!? And I'm not blue, either...

I hope you're doing okay, friend-of-mine, and that life is picking up a little. Take care. :friends0:

  3. Morning. Thought I'd say 'Hi' to another Harlan Coben fan. This forum's great, you know. Wait until you're really settled in and you'll never be off the thing!

    Hope you're having a lovely weekend. :D

  4. Well, there were a lot of 'well's between us, and I seem to have upped the ante more than somewhat, with the very first word of this message beginning with 'well'. So I shall stop.

How's life where you are? I have never been to South Africa, which is strange, as I have plenty of opportunity. My Uncle owns a wine estate somewhere over your way and he goes regularly. I should really pop over with him one day, if only to sample the goods! The wine is called Eaglevlei. Have you heard of it?

Anyway, enough of that. I trust you're having a great weekend. Pip pip.

  5. Aloha, friend-of-mine.

How're things going with you at this time, eh? Thought I would just drop by, say 'Aloha' and wish you nice things. Oh, yes!

    Hope you're excellent and tickety-boo. :friends0:

  6. Oooh, nay! I wouldn't be leaving this forum! I love it. I'm finding that when I write my reviews (in Mac Reads 2009) I'm simultaneously analysing why I'm feeling the way I do about the books I'm reading. It's really cathartic. I do find that I bore even myself sometimes, and feel sorry for my friends!

    I hope you're having a great weekend. :D

  7. Greetings Andy. How are you on this Sunday morning?

  8. Nothing To Lose - Lee Child Two small towns in Colorado: Hope and Despair. Between them, nothing but twelve miles of empty rod. Jack Reacher can't find a ride, so he walks. All he wants is a cup of coffee. What he gets are four redneck deputies, a vagrancy charge and a trip back to the line. Mistake. They're picking on the wrong guy. Reacher is a big man, and he's in shape. No job, no address, no baggage. Nothing, except bloody-minded curiosity. What are the secrets the locals seem so determined to hide? You see, the blurb does nothing for me at all. It's macho and cheesy and I just go "Bleugh!". However, the book is, as usual, magic reading. Jack Reacher once again stumbles into a town where some bad people are doing things that shouldn't be done and he sorts them out. The thing with Lee Child is that he throws into the mix an element of everyman philosophy: something to make you think about; to question. It's this skill that I really like in his writing. There's something about it that, when I'm up and down like a bride's nightie (like I am, currently, for some reason), I can very easily slip into this other place and find refuge and comfort there. Hmmm...I'm beginning to wonder if I find something of a father-figure in Jack Reacher...you see, I try and be the solid, dependable, safe and practical man who does good things, probably because my own father cleared off when I was very young. My mother remarried an amazing chap who is all of this, so maybe I equate Reacher with my step-father? I need to take a pill and stop being so intro-bloody-spective! Anyway. Another totally absorbing, rip-roaring page turner from Mr Child. 8/10

That can't be true, because my dog, Boris, was the best dog in the universe...no, wait...Jessie was the best dog in the whole univer...no, wait...Sadie was the best dog in...oh, sod it...*sighs* I agree with your judgement. The funny thing was that, even though I knew everything about it when I went to the cinema, I still found myself doing a check-list of everything I was to do that weekend and stoically not watching the screen when the inevitable happened. I'm such a soft doofus...
  10. Greetings, Scarlette. Just popping in to say Hi. Hope you're lovely and well.

  11. Hello. No, I'm not going on holiday, it's just that I always feel a bit rude if I just sign off without saying 'bye' and 'thanks'. I thought I'd start a thread that achieved that aim.

Mind you, I'd love a holiday, if you're offering

    Have a lovely weekend, chum!

  12. It's nice of you to say, but I always feel like a total zeeb about what I've written. I really loved your ramble, though. You have excellent taste in books, to boot!

  13. Excellent news. I'm sure Tuesday will go swimmingly. Unless, of course, you're nowhere near a pool. Or if you have Hydrophobia. Then that would be bad.

I'm sure, to clarify, that it will be great.

  14. I checked out your ramble on Perfume.

    You're brilliant.

    'Nuff said. :D

I thought his description of aroma was as close to perfection as the written word could make. I have a good sense of smell and taste as it's been something I've tried to develop and learn about. I wonder if it's because my eye-sight's so rubbish that my other senses seem to be good? I think you should give it another go, Chimera, although the novel certainly hasn't been to everyone's tastes that I've recommended it to.
  16. My motto is 'Procrastinate...NOW!'. Well. It would be if Iactually had a motto. Which I don't. I was going to have one, but I keep putting making one up off until tomorrow.

Being distracted by anybody is a pleasant thing - more so if it's from a hottie of the opposite gender. I hope and trust that all will be well for you, Roxi.

I struggle, if I'm honest, with all this business nowadays. Damaged goods, I believe I could be categorised as.

Hello there, my friend. I have noticed your absence of late. I trust that everything's okay with you and yours.

Anyway. It's a lovely weekend and I'm currently hiding from the sun because the ruddy thing's burnt me, for heavens sake!

Here's to a quiet evening in.

    Take care. :D

  18. Hey Roxi. It's been a while (I've been very busy). I totally agree with you on the subject of Perfume. I felt his words were so...visceral. He's amazing at conjuring exactly the essence of aroma. As you say, the book reaches the sublime.

Good to hear from you. Hope you're very well.

Just to let you know I've updated with a few more.
  20. I shall be interested in what you make of this novel, Kat. I'll keep checking in. Hope you're excellent and well, chum.
  21. I have still not read any of old Jeff's novels, dammit. I keep getting side-tracked into something else! Note to self: stop being an arse and read the damn books! I hope you're very well, Nicola.

Aloha. I'll read A Wild Sheep Chase next. I try and avoid going back to the same author time and time again, but with Murakami, what can you do? Michael Marshall's books are very, very good. You'll love him. I hope this finds you very well, lovely lady. P.S. What snow?
  23. Mac

Happy birthday, Janet! Hop you are having a lovely one!

  24. Mac

I thought I would scoot by and say a big hello to you. It certainly beats talking to oneself, doesn't it!

How are things over in Wales, lady?

To be honest, I thought that the first sign of Madness was Suggs strolling up your drive...

  25. Mac

Good morning to you. I certainly hope you have a smashing weekend planned, friend of mine.
