  1. Personally I cannot read when moving full stop. It is incredibly frustrating as I work in the City and spend at least an hour a day on the bus, so I could get plenty of reading done. I have tried I just cannot do it. After 2 or 3 minutes I have a horrible head ache and feel like I am going to throw up. The plane is not so bad with the exception of landings and take-offs.

  2. Best of the three! But I ADORED the first. I can't see how they can be better.

I thought so. I loved the first one as well, it was my favourite book prior to Checkmate.

I don't know, if I read the first again maybe I would change my mind. I only just finished Checkmate so the attachment is strong. It is an incredible book though, a fantastic trilogy. You need to read the second and third novels ASAP.

  3. I just finished 'Checkmate'. An unbelievable book, my favourite of the three. Certainly the best book I have ever read. I am going to start 'Double Cross' now. Not overly sure what to expect to be honest seeing that the first three were written as a trilogy.

  4. Argh, I know that feeling when you just want to read but you have to be somewhere else! Luckily, I managed to read the last one, Double Cross, in a day at the weekend so it didn't interfere with anything :D.

I personally like the first one the best but the other three (or four in my case) are all so good.

I'm so excited that so many people are going to read them.

Oh my days!! I almost forgot!! I was in Specsavers today and there was this woman on the phone. She was talking really loudly and so I couldn't help but overhear most of what she was saying. She mentioned Noughts & Crosses and was mostly talking about theatre and agents. I figured she was a theatre actress of some sort. Turns out, she played Minerva (Sephy's sister) in the official play production of Noughts & Crosses! How cool is that. :D

I really would like to see that. Too bad it came a year late for me. I was holidaying in the UK and Europe in late 07/early 08 with my girlfriend. I hope they manage to do the book justice.

  5. You have no idea how glad I am that you joined this forum! :) I've been all alone with my love for this series. Now we can recommend it together! :D

Yeah I am pretty obsessed. I was annoyed at having to go to work today because I wanted to finish it. The other two arrived yesterday too so it is even more painful. I can't believe how good the second book is. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as the first but I am through 220 pages of it now and so far I would have to say it is as good if not better.

  6. Hm, what to start Noughts and Crosses or The Host?

Not too sure, I think I'll finish Ice Palace by Robert Swindells. It's very very short, I could finish it in like 30min or something. :D

I haven't read 'The Host' but Noughts and Crosses is definately a great book. I am halfway through Knife Edge right now and it is awesome.

  7. I haven't read The Guardian. I tend to find his books quite 'nice'. I don't think I could ever class them as favourites but I do enjoy them. I liked A Walk To Remember and I've read At First Sight too which was very sad.

I'm really looking forward to A Swift Pure Cry and I've heard so many good things about To Kill A Mockingbird that I can't help but expect a lot from that one too.

I remember studying To Kill a Mockingbird in grade 10 and I think I must have read it 5 times in the space of a couple of months it was that good.

  8. I don't know if you've read them or not already, but if you like John Grisham, I'd recommend A Time To Kill, The Client, and The Brethren. The first 2 have been made into films but as is often the case, the books are far superior in my opinion.

I have always been a big Grisham fan and have read all of his books with the exception of 'The Associate' which I purchased on the weekend. I think I might hold off reading it for a while though as I have several other books that I want to read and the few reviews I have read have not been extremely favourable.

  9. :giggle: I get so excited when people mention this book, it's my all time favourite. I really hope you enjoy the rest. I personally like the first one the most but they're all very good!

Yeah I loved the first one. My expectations were sky high as well as I had heard nothing but good things and it certainly didn't disappoint. I cursed myself for not ordering all four books together as soon as I finished it.

I am not expecting the rest of them to be as good however I am sure that I will still enjoy them. It is probably my favourite book that I have read this year to date.

  10. :giggle: All books I've either loved or am very eager to try!

I've got Bitten waiting on my TBR pile and Dead Until Dark and Dark Lover are both on my wishlist.

    Happy reading!

    Thanks.

Bitten was recommended to me by Nessicle, it will be my next purchase from Amazon. You guys over in the UK are so lucky, the postage and handling fees I pay for books are well in excess of the cost of the actual books themselves!

I am pretty keen to try Dead Until Dark and Dark Lover as well but my first priority is definately the rest of the Naughts and Crosses series. I am patiently waiting for them to arrive.

  12. Personally it depends on my mood at the time. Sometimes I will go out of my way to ensure that my spelling and grammar is correct however at other times I might not be bothered. Some ppl can definately go way over the top though. I know my girlfriend for instance is absolutely nuts with it. She proof reads msn messages before clicking send.

As far as whether reading makes you a better writer I would say that it does. Not as much as writing though. It is definately a case of the more you write the better you become.

  13. I agree, Dan! I think they're written very differently but Noughts & Crosses and Twilight do have a similar appeal. For me, it might have been the whole tragic romance and characters falling in love from different 'worlds'.

Yeah, it is funny but before I read Twilight I had no idea I liked this particular genre. To be honest I wasn't particularly impressed with the writing in Twilight but I guess the story just kind of made up for it. I thought Noughts and Crosses was a much more complete book.
