  1. Hello! Welcome to the forum
  2. I'm watching Troy too, hadn't noticed the ear situation but I'll probably be obsessed with looking now

    Hi!

    Welcome to the forum
  4. I thought it was a bit hit-and-miss to be honest. I wouldn't have bothered having Gok or Laila Rouass there at all, like CB I thought the Cecelia Ahern bit was a complete was a complete waste of time and must have only been included as filler The interview with Chris Evans was great, I learnt some new words and confirmed that Nathaniel Parker is indeed as lovely as I thought he might be I don't think I'll go out of my way to watch it again but that may well change depending on future guests/books.
  5. The TV Book Club - not entirely sure whether I like it or not though

  14. It's not that I've gone off any band but, for example, when you say you like Group X people assume it's because they did a certain book's soundtrack and it drives me nuts. I'm glad that they're making more money and the whole world knows who they are but I wish people wouldn't just put their success down to movies that I won't name
  15. Nightlife - Rob Thurman 4/5 Blurb from Fantastic Fiction In New York, there's a troll under the Brooklyn Bridge, a boggle in Central Park, and a beautiful vampire in a penthouse on the Upper East Side. Of course, most humans are oblivious to this, but Cal Leandros is only half-human. His father's dark lineage is the stuff of nightmares - and he and his entire otherworldly race are after Cal. He and his half-brother Niko have managed to stay a step ahead for three years, but now Cal's dad has found them again. And Cal is about to learn why they want him, why they've always wanted him... This has been on my wishlist for a while so I'm glad that it didn't turn out to be a disappointment. Mention boggles, trolls & vampires all in one book and I'm usually sold so this book was a bit of a hidden gem. It started off a bit slow and I almost put it down for something else however I didn't, which turned out to be a good decision. Lots of fairly original ideas which can be hard to achieve these days and one of the starring characters is Robin Goodfellow. What's not to like about this book? Actually all the characters were likeable in good & bad ways and I enjoyed how they developed over the course of the book. Can't really say much more without giving major spoilers as to what Cal's big secret is! Despite being on a book diet I've bought books 2, 3 & 4 and pre-ordered no. 5 - oops I've also ordered his standalone (so far) novel, Trick Of The Light

  17. Thanks Mac, and I will definitely check out what you think! Just need to persuade my resident house elf to go to the library to pick my reserved copy up now

I went 4 years without a tv and then my parents bought me one which has the built-in Freeview - worst thing they could have done as I get sucked into all the progs I spent years avoiding, thanks Mum & Dad
  22. I do that with music - eg. Muse. I've been a fan since I saw one of their first gigs in Teignmouth way back in the day and now they're uber popular (thanks to everyone's favourite books) and I'm a bit reluctant to admit I like them I did buy Dan Brown's new one but I've only read about 100 pages, it's sat on the shelf gathering dust and I just can't summon up the enthusiasm to pick it up again.

Sorry!!! It's truly dire, I remember sitting through it a couple of years ago and wishing I could either bleach my brain or travel back in time It was on E4 over Christmas so I suspect you could probably "stumble" across it one day.
  25. Snap! Normally I've either already read something that suddenly becomes the "it" book or it's completely passed me by and I read it about 5 years after everyone else In my bookselling days it was easier to read books before the ghype but these days I read anything that takes my fancy and if people look down on me for that then it's their problem, not mine
