What do you mean by girly stuff Noll? Drying bras and knickers or just toiletries? I'm always on edge when a guest of someone else is in the house, its quite bad, sometimes depending on the person I won't leave the room i'm in so will be nearly wetting myself or dying of thirst or hunger till they go home..

When someone is in the bathroom and you need to go to the toilet but they take their time, then when you are in there and they need to go they bang on the door and shout until you open up
Hear, Hear, exactly that I think most of the time! My reply to my brother banging on the door is 'imagine I am Grandma, you wouldn't be cursing her and telling her to get out now would you and you can go wee in a bottle anyway, I cannot as I do not have a she wee
NEWSFLASH - You are going to have to deal with ******** whatever job you do, they are part of life unfortunately.Indeed, people are *beeps* everywhere, we should all be polite and aid whoever we come into contact with if they need it and we have the time. I even felt bad today about a woman trying to get out of her garden gate with a double buggy this morning when passing her garden walking home. Honestly she looked the type to tell me to F Off if I had tried to help but then also thought her face was sending messages of 'oh thanks for nothing, walking by when i'm struggling' so sometimes you can never win. As for the shop thing, THANK GOD FOR SELF SERVICE MACHINES or I would have killed someone by now (although they can be annoying but less annoying than having to come into contact with certain people)

Well, I know I was!
Have you read any of his other books? We have a few of them, including Life, An Unauthorised Biography and Trilobite! Eyewitness to Evolution.
I have Life on my tbr list and look forward to reading it, but after reading Dry Store Room No.1 and the bit about the trilobites, I can't seem to get those out of my head so I would like to get the Trilobite book by Fortey and learn some more. Have you read them and did you enjoy them?
-
I'm guessing you are all talking about Fortey's Natural History Museum book?
If so, get it, tis brilliant!

Unfortunately, Chris was on the toilet talking to a stain on his wall which looked vaguely like a hamster.
I like that one!

(I just wrote a fair bit of stuff I liked about this book and then the pressed bloody backspace key and it deleted it all
)
Ooshie is flying through it, it is very impressive!
Faber's writing style is simply stunning in parts, I really enjoy where he takes me. The detail he has put into this novel is apparent in many ways, one such case being the fashion change in corsets in the 1870's which he makes comment on through Agnes as well as the accents of characters bringing the whole thing to life and making me believe everything is possible.
It is a vivid tale, the crudeness is what makes it so believeable and obviously different from other (non-modern) Victorian novels which do not really include such things in detail. I like Sugar although there have been times I have not agreed with what she has done or thought but thats what makes me love this book more so, she as well as others are such believable characters it makes me care what they do and think like a friend. I am very impressed with Faber's ability to write female characters thoughts and feelings so convincingly and in such detail such as Sugar, Agnes and Mrs Fox.
The beginning of this book was fantastic too, I loved it, tis a very novel way of acknowledging the reader although it does wane in the large part of the book, not sure if it returns near the end, I expect so.
I do believe it is a book once picked up, hard to put back down, the only reason why I have not finished it sooner is partly because I love delving in these character's lives and I'm kinda stalling it so it lasts longer and stays in my memory much longer (I did the same with Paint The Wind - Cathy Cash Spellman) and I keep taking smaller books to read at work or out and about as well as my attention span is sh*ite of late and even if I was reading the perfect book for me I would still probably take an age
Currently have about 300 pages left, I do want to know the ending but I know I will miss reading about the characters once it is finished. I will have to get my hands on a better copy of this book, the book I am reading atm is from the charity shop which I got for 75p and is brilliant because I can bend the spine without feeling guilty as pages were falling out when I got it. The newer copy I get once finished will not have such manhandling thats for sure.

Unfortunately Sarah took these and many other fascinating facts with her to her grave
Unfortunately Sarah is not thick like steaks
Unfortunately Sarah comes off as having drunk too much
Unfortunately, Sarah heard this, for she was dusting the banisters, and she ran down, and flew into a temper with the sweep...
Unfortunately, Sarah was unable to provide Natalie with details about the forthcoming terrorist attack,
Unfortunately, Sarah did not show well to potential adopters. She would bark and show no interest in going to a new home - (the vision of a human barking made me laugh although it applys to a dog)
Sorry to other Sarah's I got carried away with this, tis funny

This is just so heartbreaking and sick. It just blows my mind that some cultures are so negligent of their women and children, particularly when it is a female child!
http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/meast/04/09/yemen.child.bride.death/index.html?hpt=T2
I too read this earlier today and was sickened, tis something that should not happen but can imagine is happening alot around the world in various circumstances. It even made me think back in history when many other cultures had young girls marrying old men, even ours at times, tis so sad to think what these children (not even young women) have to endure against their will

She does look a bit like she is considering a dilema. It would be an interesting painting to see and study in real life. Birds are so lovely, I have my deck door open right now and there are a couple of those red winged blackbirds out in the tree singing away
Yes it would be great to see them in real life, typically I heard of a large waterhouse exhibition not far from me but it had ended by the time I heard about it
The birds do seem to make everything more pleasant when singing outside, the breeding season is making the ones here in my garden go crazy, whizzing about here and there, calling all hours and doing funny displays
was watching some dunnocks courting last night before it got dark twas funny to see.

Your description definitely sounds peaceful! She does look peaceful in that setting although I can't help but think her eyes make her look like she is in deep thought too, also loving the house martins flying close by

I do have the urge and have been known to look ahead a few paragraphs or pages to see if a name of a character is mentioned if where i'm reading it insinuates they may be dying etc but I don't do it anymore. I've found using a bookmark to underline the paragraph or line I am reading stops me from looking ahead and keeps me concentrating on the words at the time.
My bf has in the past the annoying habit of picking my books up and opening the last page and bribing me with the ending, if I don't stop doing something or won't do something he will read the last line or page to me or read it himself and then slip in what happened in conversation later, I always back down though as i'd rather read it in time, obviously lol or he makes stuff up and tells me and it confuses me as I expect something that isn't going to happen...
-
Ooo thanks, sounds intriguing i'll check it out now
I went to register and seems I have already registered on that site before but when and why I have no recollection of....wonder if I still get the 5% then...guessing if you are already registered with the old borders site then it continues?

Having good taste helps, I can't be influenced by a person who doesn't have similar tastes to me.
