  1. It does indeed seem to have the "Marmite" factor!
  2. Inver, I also found the first two thirds of New Moon a struggle, but as soon as turns up again, the action fair rattles along and it makes it all worthwhile. Next up, though, you've got Eclipse, which is my favourite of the series, so I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
  3. I'm the ghost of a half-demon black witch on a quest to capture the Nix.
  4. I read Malcolm Gladwell's Blink last year and found it fascinating. I don't read much non-fiction other than travel literature (and I think some of that could count as fiction!), but I did enjoy Blink a lot, so I might pick up The Tipping Point later in the year.
  5. Hello Bel-ami
  6. There's the Women of the Otherworld series: 1. Bitten (2001) 2. Stolen (2002) 3. Dime Store Magic (2003) 4. Industrial Magic (2004) 5. Haunted (2005) 6. Broken (2006) 7. No Humans Involved (2007) 8. Personal Demon (2008) 9. Living with the Dead (2008) 10. Frost Bitten (2009) And, I've started the Darkest Powers trilogy, which is a YA supernatural series: 1. The Summoning (2008) 2. The Awakening (2009) 3. The Reckoning (2010)
  7. Finished Industrial Magic by Kelley Armstrong today, which is the fourth book in the Women of the Otherworld series. I am enjoying these books, although I think that may be because I don't have enough time to dedicate to my reading at the moment, and these don't require brain power, they're purely for entertainment. I've liked that the series has developed the supernatural world with each new book, introducing new characters and supernatural beings, but I have to admit, as I'm still waiting for the third book from the library, I was mildly disappointed by the lack of Elena in this book, as it focuses on Paige and Lucas. It was still enjoyable, and I'll be making a start on the next book, Haunted, this evening.

    Hi!

Hello Prue! This is a great place to chat to like minded readers, and fantastic for finding inspiration for your next book to read.
  9. Thanks Stephanie! This was the first year I voted many times each week in fact by the final week, I think it was 4 or 5 times a day! I was desperate for them to win over Matt & Lilia, even though I love Lilia and Matt improved dramatically over the series. Thank goodness they changed the voting so you can only vote on Saturday nights - saved me a fortune last year
  10. I'm so pleased for you, Linda. I''ll keep my fingers crossed for you.
  11. Thanks, Charm, it was a very memorable book and will stick with me for a while. I've just finished The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong, which is a YA book about a girl who discovers she's a necromancer, and finds herself in a home for teenagers with mental health problems. It's not long before she finds out the world is not what she thought, and there is more out there than she ever knew. The story was a bit slow at the beginning, and I think the first half of the book could have been edited to make it tighter and give it a faster pace, but I did enjoy the book. I only realised when I was about 10 pages from the end that it's the first in a trilogy, and this one ends with a big cliffhanger, so I'm going to have to reserve the next one from the library to find out what happens next. I don't have enough time for reading at the moment, and I'm having to grab 10 minutes here and there, so I don't want anything to serious or literary for now, and I'm going to go for Industrial Magic by Kelley Armstrong next. I know I haven't read Dime Store Magic yet, but I know it's a pure entertainment book, and I won't be worried about having to put it down in the middle of a chapter if I need to.
  12. Hi Rina
  13. Have you been to the cinema, paid your hard earned cash to be entertained, and then found the film to be so awful/dull/offensive/boring that you've had to leave? I've done it three times: Silverado Throw Momma From The Train Hannah and Her Sisters I would have walked out of Cold Mountain, but I thought my friend was enjoying it, then at the end I asked her what she thought of it, and she said she'd nearly fallen asleep and was only staying for me! Anyone else walked out, or is it just me?
  14. She's 39 years old, and the amount of stress it puts on your body during the training for Strictly is immense. I hate this agism slant the papers have put on the recent news. Arlene was the weakest link of the judges, and Karen retired from professional competition years ago, so to still be dancing at that level was a great achievement.

  15. Don't worry, I'm not really that surprised  I guessed after last year she might have had enough, and she's opened her own London studio now, so that must take up most of her time. I hope she still comes on It Takes Two or BBC Breakfast as a correspondent though, as I respect what she has to say about dancing.

  16. Hey sydneyc
  17. If you can wait a couple of weeks, both Waterstones and Blackwells have it in their online store for
  18. Oh no! She's my favourite :( I'm surprised they didn't try to replace Arlene with her as a judge - that would have made two ballroom/latin specialist judges and two choreography/performer judges. And I've had such a bad day as well, that just tops it all off.

  19. Hi Mac, hope you're well. Just wanted to let you know I finished The Other Hand yesterday, which I bought after you reviewed it - thought it was excellent. Will definitely be in my top books of the year.

  20. She didn't particularly annoy me - at least not more than any of the other judges at times! - but to me, she always felt less spontaneous, like she'd written her comments before she'd seen the dance, especially with her alliteration all the time. I think the problem with adding another judge taking the panel up to five, would have made the judging too long, but they do need to do something about the tie situation, which is rubbish. If it's a tie with the judges, then go back to the public vote and let them decide.

  21. I do like Flavia and Vincent as Argentine Tango dancers, but purely from the competition celeb/professional partnerships, Mark and Karen's was by far the most electrifying one I've seen. I also love the tango (Zoe & Ian's in series three was awesome) and the paso doble (my favourite was Jill & Darren in series two).

I think the Arlene thing has been blown out of all proportion. Last year the press were calling for her (and the other judges) to be sacked after their comments about John Sargeant, and now they are saying she should stay, just because she's older! I think Craig, Arlene and Bruno all have similar backgrounds and any one of them could have been replaced, and I think Arlene is the one that struggles to be natural on screen. They've decided to go with Alesha, and she does bring a unique perspective, even if not from a technical point of view, and at least we know she's passionate about the show, so I'm quite pleased.

  22. It is Karen and Mark! They are my all time Strictly favourites and their Argentine Tango is my favourite ever dance on Strictly. It gives me goosebumps and butterflies every time I watch it.
