  1. The only two Steinbeck books I've read are The Pearl and Of Mice and Men, and both of those were at school in my English class and I remember enjoying them, but I've never read any more of his books since.
  2. I hope so At least I've got a few more Kelley Armstrong books to get to, although if I get them at the weekend, even that probably won't last me past the end of next week! Why can't these women write faster
  3. Finished Dead and Gone and now my allegiances have definitely changed. No longer is Mr Edward Cullen my number one vampire, it's totally Mr Eric Northman! I don't think the book was the best of the series, and while I liked the fantasy elements of vampires and weres in Sookie's world, I've think the faeries may be a step too far for me. It was good, and I absolutely loved the character development of Eric, but not my favourite. The only problem is, now I've only got re-reads of the books until the next new installment
  4. Just seen an advert for The Time Traveler's Wife on television, and I'm definitely looking forward to it now!
  5. Hi Charm! Just wanted to pop in and say that of course you can call me chesil if you like.

And also, I'm getting a bit worried about your Eric Northman obsession   Only kidding, although I thought Twilighters had it bad, but there's some serious competition from the True Blood fans - I'm sure we'll start getting some resistance on the forum soon ;)

  6. I finished No Humans Involved by Kelley Armstrong today. I think this has probably been my favourite of all the Women of the Otherworld series so far. The story focuses on Jaime Vegas, and is actually a bit chilling in places, but as always an exciting, action packed book. I've started Dead and Gone by Charlaine Harris this evening, but I'm in two minds how much to read, as it's a hardback and won't fit in my bag, so I won't be able to read it during my lunchbreak tomorrow, and I don't want to get too engrossed, then not be able to carry on with it!
  7. "Caucasian vampires should never wear white," the television announcer intoned. Dead and Gone - Charlaine Harris
  8. Hi Kel1
  9. I was interested to read your review of Wedding Season, Beth. I read it earlier in the year, and agreed with pretty much everything what you said. The bigger problem for me, was that the characters attitudes and situations felt so dated, more like early chick-lit novels I read, not the latest ones out now. In fact, if you'd told me it was set in the early 1990's and was written in then, I'd have been more generous towards it. I don't think Katie Fforde has matured in her writing at all, and unlike other chick-lit authors who've allowed their characters to grow up and their writing to develop over the years, she seems to be stuck writing twenty something rom-com, but she's out of touch with that social group.

It'll be interesting to see what changes (if any) England make.
  11. "I don't understand." "Why is human magic impossible?" "Because it doesn't work." No Humans Involved - Kelley Armstrong
  12. Brendan struggled to stay awake. No Humans Involved by Kelley Armstrong
  13. I had a similar experience, in fact I think I bugged my mum to let me see the film, but I don't think I watched it until it was shown on television, but I was so scared, I had to turn it off. I tried to read the book later, but I don't think I ever got more than a few chapters in without having bad memories of the film flooding back to me, and needing to put the book down. I kept the book up until a couple of years ago, when I decided enough was enough, and gave it away to the charity shop, as I knew I'd never read it.
  14. I'm looking forward to reading this, and thinking of picking up a copy of this for my holiday reading later in the year, but I haven't seen it in any of my local bookshops, so I might have to get it online instead (I usually don't like to buy books online, as I like the feeling of picking them out in a bookshop).
  15. I'm also wary of these 'sequels', and I'm still not sure, but your review makes it sound like it would be worth having a look, especially at under 200 pages it's not going to be a huge commitment. Thanks Kate.

Congratulations to the Australian team who completely outclassed England this match. I have to commend Broad and Swann for their 108 runs for the 8th wicket - fantastic entertainment!
  17. I had to complain at the library when I took my last book back, because although the librarian had written on the date stamp page at the front of the book "Scribble noted", I'm not sure she'd realised how bad it was - two pages had been more or less completely obliterated by what looked like a toddler scribbling on them. The pages were the end of one chapter and the beginning of another, so the first page was mainly blank anyway, but the second page was full of text and I couldn't make out some of the words. At least they're going to take it out of circulation now.
  18. Just finished Broken by Kelley Armstrong. This installment from The Women of the Otherworld series takes us back to Elena and the werewolf pack, and the stories about Elena have been my favourites so far, so this was another good one for me. Perfect entertainment for a lazy Sunday.
